Nolan Arenado went 4 for 5 with a homer and 2 RBI to help the Rockies finally slug one past the Dodgers, 13-9.
Lance Lynn struck out 10 in 8 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits and 1 walk as the Rangers blanked the Rays, 5-0.
Matt Olson reached base 4 times, including a pair of homers, driving in 5, powering the A’s past the Angels, 7-2.
Aníbal Sánchez held the Tigers to 1 run over 6 innings, striking out 8, to give the Nationals a 3-1 victory.
Earning 1/2 WOBs:
Danny Duffy pitched into the 7th, striking out 8 Blue Jays in 6 2/3 innings, but was saddled with the 6-2 Kansas City loss.
Max Muncy homered, singled and walked, driving in 5 runs but the Dodgers dropped the 13-9 slug fest to Colorado.
Miguel Sanó hit a pair of homers and added a walk in the Twins 6-4 loss to the White Sox.
Michael Wacha held the Padres to 2 runs an 6 hits over 7 innings but took the hard luck 3-1 decision for the Cardinals.

Who Owns October (#WOO) Tallies Updated For October 6, 2018

Sorry I missed a day of Who Owned October. I had to take care of something in the real world.
Naturally it was the day the Red Sox WON!
Meanwhile Gary Sanchez found his groove and Gerit Cole announced his presence with authority.
This entry will reflect in the standings both days. That means Clayton Kershaw, J. D. Martinez, Aaron Judge, Mike Moustakas, Alex Bregman, Manny Machado, Francisco Lindor, Justin Verlander, Jeremy Jeffress, Chris Sale, Ronald Acuña, Jr., Touki Toussaint, Chad Green, Tyler Anderson and Nolan Arenado all are credited.
So who owned October?
Each winning team for every post season game gets a pitcher and a hitter who earn a full WOO (Who Owns October.)
And at my discretion, I award a 1/2 WOO’S to a worthy player on the losing team.
At the end of the post season, we will see who had the highest WOO total as a pitcher and a hitter.

American League Division Series Game 2:
Receiving 1 WOO
Gerrit Cole struck out 12 Indians in 7 innings, giving up 3 hits and 1 solo homer to earn the 3-1 win for the Astros.
Marwin Gonzalez went 4 for 4, including a double, driving in 2 as the Astros topped the Indians, 3-1.
Gary Sanchez homered twice, driving in 4 runs to make the difference for the Yankees 6-2 victory in Boston.
Masahiro Tanaka allowed 1 run over 6 innings before handing the lead over to the bullpen as the Yankees topped Boston, 6-2.
Receiving 1/2 WOO
Xander Bogaerts homered in the Red Sox 6-2 loss to the Yankees.
Carlos Carrasco held the Astros scoreless for the first 5 innings. He would hand the lead over to the bullpen in the 6th but they could not hold it, dropping the 3-1 final for Cleveland.
Francisco Lindor homered to give the Indians their only run in a 3-1 loss to the Astros.
Joe Kelly kept the Red Sox in the game with 2 1/3 shutout innings, allowing 1 hit. But the damage was done in the Yankees 6-2 win.

Walker Buehler dominated the Rockies into the 7th, throwing 6 2/3 shutout innings, striking out 3 and getting the 5-2 clinching victory for the Dodgers.
Jhoulys Chacin kept the Cubs from a big inning by allowing only a solo homer over 5 2/3 innings to earn the 3-1 decision for the Brewers.
Max Muncy got 2 hits, including a 2 run homer, to lead the Dodgers past the Rockies in the NL West Tie Breaker, 5-2.

So Rockies fans can finally see one of their OWN players hit for the cycle!
Seems like Coors Field is the place to hit for the cycle. And man, Nolan Arenado found the ideal way to finish it. Needing only a homer to check all the boxes off, he launched his in the bottom of the 9th for 3 runs and his team down.
A walk off, come from behind multi run homer to finish the cycle. That’s not a bad day at the office!

Officlal Bets For The MLB Reports In 2017
At the MLB Reports, we put our money where our mouth is. We have won over $2100 in the last 3 years from all bets. We have made several wagers to begin the season in 2017.
Keep in mind these are not official predictions in any regard, however they are best value picks, and we often hedge bets later on with position of strength projected wins.

Atlantis Casino Wagers For 2017 MLB Win Totals
The old adage here is ‘you want to know the truth, follow the money.
We have been talking projections for win totals in the upcoming MLB Year on a all offseason basis here at the MLB Reports. While we agreed a lot with the fangraphs.com prognostications, we had a problem with Baseball Prospectis’s PECOTA System yet again.
In the 1st total listed below are the official Win/Loss Over/Unders For All 30 MLB Clubs posted by Atlantis Casino.
We have to say that they pretty much mirrored what we have on the board for our projections.
Casino’s have a vested interest since it will cost them serious money if there are poor predictions.
In the last week, we have seen the Royals ink Travis Wood, but more importantly Alex Reyes was lost for the season by the Cardinals due to his upcoming Tommy John Surgery. Read the rest of this entry
5 MLB Teams That Could Be Real Contenders – Or Real Pretenders In 2017
Each year we are enlightened to a few surprises in the MLB we were not expecting. This year there are 5 teams that seem could flip either way based on the talent coming to fruition.
We tried to pick a club for each Division here, but simply couldn’t come out with a AL Central team.
Tampa Bay Rays:
With Alex Cobb potentially coming back healthy to the rotation that features Chris Archer and Jake Odorizzi already. the Rays will have decent chuckers to start this campaign.
Add Blake Snell, Matt Andriese and recently acquired Jose DeLeon (who should contribute quality innings this campaign and all of a sudden this club doesn’t look too shabby for depth.
The Relief Core is also solid if Brad Boxberger can reclaim his form, and see a similar year for Alex Colome.
Evan Longoria, and Brad Miller both put forth 30 HR seasons in 2016, and Matt Duffy may prove to be a decent Batting Average guy at Shortstop now.
The Rays Outfield will feature Kevin keirmaier, Mallex Smith, Corey Dickerson and Steven Souza, while one of those guys may also see some time at Designated Hitter. Read the rest of this entry
2017 MLB Regular Season Player Prop Bet Odds Part 1
On this list of player over/unders it may be worth a well solution to wager over on all bets across the board and go for about a 60 percent win factor. I did bet a few unders on the sheet towards the end. I continue to find value on the whole gambling aspect of listed odds. I will throw down some more money on these selections. I am just hoping that I don’t become too over-confident for my own good.
With less than 2 months until the regular season begins, we are starting to see some prop bets show up online and in Las Vegas.
Come back by the start of March to see Over/Under wins for all 30 MLB clubs, and also when they decide to implement individual player prop bets.
With so many MVP candidates and Cy Young type pitchers, we are favoring Over a lot more than Under yet again in 2017.
We compiled a 6 – 0 individual player bet prop record, and were not so hot on these props listed, but we still managed a .500 record even for those.

With No Top 50 ALL – Time Contracts Signed This Winter – Who Is Next To Make The List?
Signing Cespedes has signed the biggest contract of the offseason thus far at 4 YRs/$110 MIL. it is ranked tied for 60th ALL – Time even though the Annual Average Value is tied for 2nd ALL – Time among position players. With power having been devalued and a firm new set of penalties for Luxury Tax Threshold Abusers, it may take until the winter of 2018 – heading into 2019 – for another player to ink a contract that places them in the top 50 ALL – Time Salaries.
The winter has seen a lot of great Free Agents sign like Yoenis Cespedes, Aroldis Chapman, Dexter Fowler, Kenley Jansen, Ian Desmond, Mark Melancon and Edwin Encarnacion, however none of them were historic by any means.
While Cespedes’s $110 MIL pact over 4 years is $27.5 MIL per year, which ties him for the 2nd best AAV ALL – Time for a position player with Alex Rodriguez, (trailing Miguel Cabrera‘s 8 YR/$248 MIL extension that started in 2016) – only brings him in for a tie for about 60th on the ALL – Time Biggest Contracts list.
To crack the top 50 list ALL – Time right now, you need to bring in a deal that makes at least $120 MIL for the life of the contract.
During last years offeseason, David Price ($217 MIL), Zack Greinke, ($206.5 MIL) Jason Heyward, ($184 MIL), Chris Davis, ($161 MIL), Justin Upton ($132.8 MIL) and Johnny Cueto ($130 MIL) all inked pacts in excess of that.

Bold Predictions For The MLB In 2017
Every year we do an article called “Bold Predictions”. I love this concept as most of these ideas are so preposterous that none of them will actually happen. I liken it to the “Riverboat Gambler Theory” where you can really get rich quick if it were to come to fruition.
There may not be too many secrets in the National League where the clubs seems to be either really good or really bad. The American League has a lot more parity.
I suppose I could start off by saying that the NL would win the Interleague series versus the AL, but that it is probably not going to happen based on a 13 year losing streak.
Giancarlo Stanton will crack 50+ HRs
Jose Bautista will not be signed until after the June 2017 draft.

Projected Top 5 Home Run Hitters In Major League Baseball For 2017
Having nothing to do with the ALL – Star Game, and a ton to prove after inviting himself to the HR derby in San Diego, we placed a $125 bet on Stanton to win the event at +325 odds – and he won the whole thing. Now only if he could refrain from beingthe DL for 1 campaign. It was another injury plagued season for the veteran in 2016, but I still claim he will lead the league in HRs one of these years and possibly challenge 50 HRs in the process. He is our #1 pick to win the overall MLB HR crown in 2017.
With apologies to the pending Free Agents who cracked 40+ HRs in Mark Trumbo (47) and Chris Carter (41), I just don’t see them duplicating their 2016 campaigns.
I also foresee a bunch of changes to the top 6 Home Run hitters in the American League in 2017.
Newly signed Indians player Edwin Encarnacion is quite possibly the only returning top 5 guy that will be in there back to back seasons for the Junior Circuit.

Don’t get me wrong. i fully expect these gentlemen to eclipse 30+ HRs each still in 2017.
Since the top 5 overall Major League HR totals all resided in the AL in 2016 – I suspect this won’t be the case next year.
Ultimately, career years from Khris Davis and Brian Dozier will be hard to do again.

6 MLB Teams That Will Be Hurt Most By The New CBA
Billy Beane was the king of the front offices just a few years ago, but a future loss of MLB Revenue Sharing and not being able to recoup 1st RD Draft picks by losing star players will hurt them even greater. The AL West also has 4 big market clubs residing it now, with Houston being a lot better than they were in 2013 and 2014 when they first joined the Division from the National League, This time frame was the best the A’s have seen of recent vintage. it will be a tough grind for Oakland to compete until a new stadium is built.

Yesterday we talked about 6 teams that stand to gain an advantage under the new CBA, Today we explore the 6 teams that were hurt most.
While the news of taxing the higher revenue generating teams will work to bridge the top teams to the mid – market revenue clubs. the abolishing of a 1st RD Draft Pick compensation pick being lost to franchises for having signed one of their Qualifying Offer rejected players will hurt many franchises.
Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Oakland. Colorado, San Diego and Milwaukee all had days in my opinion. The Rays, Twins, Reds and Marlins are not too far from list either, however all of those organizations also are not good shape with the new pact either, however they are not as bad as the top 6 clubs.
The Pirates were already thinking about trading Andrew McCutchen, and this should give a violent shove in that direction.
It will also show that players such as Carlos Gonzalez, Sonny Gray, Charlie Blackmon, Starling Marte, Gregory Polanco, Gerrit Cole, Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas and Nolan Arenado will all be dealt before their Team Control expires. It is the new landscape of the CBA.
I would hate the new CBA as these clubs.
Under the old agreement . these teams may have been more apt to take their chances on a playoff run – sighting at least a 1st RD Draft Pick would be coming back their way should their superstars leave their squads. Read the rest of this entry
MIlwaukee Is Making A Boneheaded Move If Non-Tendering Chris Carter: Should Have Learned From Houston Last Year
Chris Carter would be the perfect ‘cheap’ addition to compete on a lot of American League Rosters. This man has been criminally underrated for the power and walks he has put forth over the last 4 campaigns. With the ability to DH/play 1B or LF, with Milwaukee having 2 years left of team control in Arbitration, the club has DFA’d him, and likely will be forced to release him outright as A Free Agent. The management also signed an unproven MLB’er (Eric Thames) to a guaranteed $15 MIL over 3 years. Pretty bad on all front in my opinion!

Last year at this time I made the point that the Houston Astros made a big mistake in non-tendering Chris Carter. At that juncture, the man has clubbed 90 HRS over the previous 3 campaigns with the Astros.
Houston struggled at the First Base Position all year in 2016 – with a collection of Tyler White, Marwin Gonzalez, Luis Valbuena and Yulieski Gurriel. With just bringing forth 84 wins. with the cutoff for the playoffs at 89 victories, one could say the franchise could have used the slugger ( and his .821 OPS, 41 HRs and 94 RBI).
The ‘Stros’ finished with production of .232/.299/.381 – 19 HRs, 62 RBI out of the position – which had a huge factor in them not reaching the playoffs, having the 2nd worst offensive output for the American League (Yankees – the worst).
Carter is a powerful dude who is a kind of the new Adam Dunn of the Majors. If he qualified for HR/PER AB ALL – Time with 3000 PA (he has 2645 his 14.97 AB per homer would rank him 13th in Major League Baseball History. So where is the love? Read the rest of this entry
Nolan Arenado Having Another Great Year, But Doing it in a Slightly Different Way
Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado is one of baseball’s best all-around players. Despite that, he doesn’t get nearly as much airtime as some other superstars.
Why is that? Well, Denver isn’t exactly a huge media market when compared to New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. Playing for a team that can’t get over .500 doesn’t help, either (Mike Trout has been able to buck that trend a little bit, but he’s a special case).
Arenado’s fielding ability has always been there – he’s won a Gold Glove each year since debuting for Colorado in 2013 – and he’s had a good bat, but he went into another stratosphere during the 2015 season. As a 24-year-old, he slashed .287/.323/.575 while leading the National League in both home runs (42) and RBI (130) over 616 at-bats.
With about a month left in 2016, his numbers are sitting just about where they were a year ago. Through 506 at-bats, he’s slashing a healthy .294/.365/.583 while leading the National League in homers (36) and RBI (115).
More or less, 2016 looks a heck of a lot like 2015 did. He went to the All-Star game for the second consecutive year; he’ll also be in the running for another Gold Glove as well as a Silver Slugger. What’s interesting is digging a little deeper into his numbers and seeing that he arrived at very similar results in a slightly different way.

Victor Martinez collected 3 hits, including a homer, driving in 2 as Detroit beat Minnesota, 8-3.
Jake Arrieta pitched 8 innings of 2 hit shutout ball, striking out 6 San Diego batters and earning the 5-3 decision for the Cubs.
Sean Manaea struck out 8 Cleveland batters over 7 innings, yielding 3 hits and 1 run while getting the 9-1 win for Oakland.

Nolan Arenado’s Bat Is Incredible, But His Glove Is Legend… Wait For It… DARY!
Sorry for the “How I Met Your Mother” quote in the title, but I couldn’t resist. At this moment in time, I believe we are witnessing one of the best defensive third baseman to play the game of baseball. At the age of 25, Nolan Arenado has received the National League Gold Glove Award in his first three seasons in the big leagues. He also won his first Fielding Bible in 2015, which means he was voted the best fielding third baseman in the entire Major Leagues, not just the National League. As you can see, he has been racking up the fielding accolades since he was promoted by the Rockies in 2013, but let’s take a look at his numbers.
