Daily Matchups for 7/15/2016

Pitcher

STUDS

Madison Bumgarner– MadBum pitched last Sunday and absolutely dominated the D-Backs with 14 Ks, 1 hit, complete game shut out. He logged 81 FP on Fanduel and now has a great matchup against the Padres. Lifetime against the Padres he’s given up only 28 hits in 161 ABs allowing 3 HRs and 51 Ks. He’s the most expensive pitcher on the slate, but he’s in line for a terrific game again.

Stephen Strasburg- Stras is coming off a game against the Mets where he pitched 7 innings of no-hit ball with 9 Ks and 57 FPs. He gets face a Pirates team that he’s held to 8 hits in 41 ABs (.195 BA) with 14 Ks. He’s pricey but in a great spot again tonight to start the weekend.

MID RANGE

Marcus Stroman- Stroman has dominated some strong offenses lately (Royals, Indians) and gets a great matchup tonight against a terrible Oakland offense. He’s been able to hold this team to a .200 BA only 3 hits in 15 ABs with 5 Ks. I like him as a tremendous option at less than $8k on Fanduel.

VALUE

Bartolo Colon- The Big man didn’t get into the All-Star game on Tuesday even though his manager was the coach and now he gets to face the Phillies which should be good news on this extra rest. Lifetime against Philly he has held them to a .256 BA (40 for 156) with only 4 HRs given up (3 of them are from Howard who is terrible) and 37 Ks. He’s a great value play to load up on bats tonight.

Yovani Gallardo- I really only like this pick because he’s facing a terrible, terrible Rays team who love to strike out.

Daily Matchups for 7/7/2016

Pitcher

STUDS

Drew Pomeranz- Dodgers don’t hit very well vs. lefties. On a small slate, Pomeranz stands out as the top option with a high potential for strikeouts.

Trevor Bauer- Since the start of June he owns a 1.81 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00. He faces a Yankee offense that…..well, is just bad.

MID RANGE

Danny Duffy- Over 10 strikeouts per 9 innings and a WHIP under 1.00. Seattle is just middle of the pack vs. lefties.

Jason Hammel- Current Braves hitters actually have good numbers vs. him, but they are the Braves and haven’t been very good this year. I’d consider him a low owned tournament play.

VALUE

Doug Fister- Oakland bats really don’t scare me here and Fister has quietly been a solid arm this year, with an ERA of 3.66. Won’t strikeout many but could you a W if the Astros can get to Hill.

It’s a small(ish) slate and we won’t be playing a ton, but here we go!

Daily Matchups for 6/30/2016

Pitcher

Madison Bumgarner This is a dream matchup for MadBum tonight. He’s facing a lackluster Athletics team which he has been able to hold to a .264 BA (23 for 87) with 21 strike outs to 7 walks. He has given up for HRs but this is being played in Oakland and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets 10 Ks tonight.

John Lackey- Can anyone stop these Cubs? Lackey is facing the Mets who love to strike out lately. He’s held them to a .261 BA (41 for 157) with 29 strike outs, 29 fly outs (spacious Citi Field) and 37 ground outs while only giving up 3 HRs. He’s a middle of the pack priced pitcher with a great matchup who will go overlooked with Bumgarner up as well.

Gio Gonzalez

Carlos Carrasco

Catcher

Wilson Ramos  Love him against a lefty in Finnegan. He’s 1 for 3 with a HR against him.

Brandon Webb’s career was noteworthy and a warning

Wednesday Feb.06/2013

ESPN.com

By Paul Francis Sullivan (Lead Baseball Writer):

Brandon Webb is retiring from major league baseball, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com. This hardly seems like a monumental announcement this spring. Webb has been out of sight and out of mind since the beginning of the 2009 season. His official retirement notice is reminiscent of a band announcing their breakup long after they had their last hit.

But Brandon Webb’s career, brief as it was, was remarkable and also should be remembered the next time an ace pitcher looks for a long term extension.

As outlandish as it may sound now, Brandon Webb was putting together the beginning of a Hall of Fame career. This is not hyperbole.

The former University of Kentucky star was an 8th round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2000.

He shot up through Arizona’s farm system and by 2003, the 24 year old Webb was a major leaguer and finished 4th in the Rookie of the Year vote. He posted a 2.84 ERA over 180 2/3 innings, winning 10 games for an Arizona squad that finished third in the National League West.

By 2006, he became an elite pitcher. He led the league in wins, shutouts and ERA+ and had the top WAR for pitchers. He won the National League Cy Young Award and looked like he was just getting warmed up. Read the rest of this entry
