Sean Newcomb came within one strike of throwing the first Braves no hitter since 1994. He allowed a 2 out , 2 strike single and had to settle for 8 2/3 innings of 1 hit ball and a 4-1 victory over Los Angeles.
Buster Posey collected 4 hits including a 3 run come from behind double that set up the Giants 8-5 win over the Brewers.
Nathan Eovaldi made a memorable Red Sox debut, throwing 7 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 5 Twins en route to a 3-0 decision.
Chris Davis hit a pair of 2 run homers and also walked as the Orioles clobbered the Rays, 11-5.

Gary Sanchez got 3 hits, including a pair of homers to give the Yankees a critical bounce back 10-7 victory over Boston.

Chris Archer threw 8 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits and striking out 11 Royals in the Rays 12-1 laugher victory.
Buster Posey homered, singled, walked, and scored 3 runs including one in the 9th inning comeback as the Giants stunned the Mets, 6-5.
Kenta Maeda held the Pirates scoreless until the 9th and finished with 8 1/3 innings, 2 runs and no walks to earn the 5-2 decision for the Dodgers.

2017 All-Money Team: The Highest-Paid MLB Players at Each Position
While it may not feel like spring is on the way in certain parts of the country, it’s closer than you think. Why? Well, the start of Spring Training is less than three weeks away, and we all know that the mere sight of players on a baseball field gives people the warm and fuzzies — no matter what the thermometer says.
Another year of MLB action means there will be lots of money earned by the league’s best players. But who gets the honor of being the top earner at their position this season? That was a question we wanted to answer with the 2017 All-Money team.
Thanks to Spotrac, it was easy to check out the payroll salaries at each position to see who is bringing home the most bacon over the next few months. Here’s a squad that would be pretty darn good overall, but just a tad bit expensive.
With No Top 50 ALL – Time Contracts Signed This Winter – Who Is Next To Make The List?
Signing Cespedes has signed the biggest contract of the offseason thus far at 4 YRs/$110 MIL. it is ranked tied for 60th ALL – Time even though the Annual Average Value is tied for 2nd ALL – Time among position players. With power having been devalued and a firm new set of penalties for Luxury Tax Threshold Abusers, it may take until the winter of 2018 – heading into 2019 – for another player to ink a contract that places them in the top 50 ALL – Time Salaries.
The winter has seen a lot of great Free Agents sign like Yoenis Cespedes, Aroldis Chapman, Dexter Fowler, Kenley Jansen, Ian Desmond, Mark Melancon and Edwin Encarnacion, however none of them were historic by any means.
While Cespedes’s $110 MIL pact over 4 years is $27.5 MIL per year, which ties him for the 2nd best AAV ALL – Time for a position player with Alex Rodriguez, (trailing Miguel Cabrera‘s 8 YR/$248 MIL extension that started in 2016) – only brings him in for a tie for about 60th on the ALL – Time Biggest Contracts list.
To crack the top 50 list ALL – Time right now, you need to bring in a deal that makes at least $120 MIL for the life of the contract.
During last years offeseason, David Price ($217 MIL), Zack Greinke, ($206.5 MIL) Jason Heyward, ($184 MIL), Chris Davis, ($161 MIL), Justin Upton ($132.8 MIL) and Johnny Cueto ($130 MIL) all inked pacts in excess of that.

San Francisco Giants Payroll In 2017 + Contracts Going Forward
San Francisco has seen the LA Dodgers spend more than 1 Billion Dollars on player contracts over the last 4 years – all culminating into 4 straight Division titles in the process. Under the new Luxury Tax Yes the organization has handed out big money recently to Johnny Cueto (6 Years/$130 MIL) and both Hunter Pence and Jeff Samardzija are on 5 year pacts that call for $90 MIL. The only blip against the radar is the Matt Cain contract. Brian Sabean can actually stomach that abysmal deal because of the sweetheart pact he put forth in retaining Madison Bumgarner early for 6 Years and $35.9 MIL of total money, in which he is in the 6th year of currently. The team still holds two more Team Options for him additionally in 2018 & 2019 which they will surely activate. His deal paved the way for the team to add valuable players after.
We have been saying for years that the LA Dodgers were going to force the rest of the MLB into many changes as soon as they switched ownership group to the Guggenheim Consortium.
Since that proclamation, the Dodger Blue has spent over 1 Billion Dollars in players salaries over the last 4 years, and are on pace to whisk away $240 MIL more in 2017 (without adding any more players to their current salary structure.)
It has caused a chain reaction among the top clubs competing in the Senior Circuit. One of those said clubs is the San Francisco Giants. The team that has won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014 has seen a rapid escalation in the money they are doling out on an annual basis.
The major difference between the Giants and Dodgers is how many of the players are being paid that the club originally drafted.
During last year’s Trade Deadline, also threw heavy praise at the brass for picking up Matt Moore, who is listed as the clubs 4th Starting Pitcher, and has 3 separate Team Option for a total of $25 MIL over the next 3 campaigns if picked up.
Another team friendly option as they can decide each offseason whether it is worth it.
Moore also provides protection in case Cueto opts out of his contract after 2017.
The San Francisco Giants Should Sign Matt Wieters, Play Posey At 1B + Belt In LF
Matt Wieters accepted the 1 Year Qualifying Offer with the Baltimore Orioles last year – and he played his first full campaign since 2013. At Age 30, he is still a decent Catcher both offensively and defensively. I first came up with this idea a few years ago, but Posey was still putting world class numbers out of the backstopper position, and they had several Outfielders on the depth chart. Now.there is an opening beyond the grass, so Brandon Belt could move there – freeing up Posey to play First Base – and the team to sign Wieters.
The Giants are one of the best franchises at fostering their home grown talent. It has culminated in 3 World Series from 2010 – 2014, and the franchise has several of its core players locked up for the next 3 – 5 years.
With the recent news of the Luxury Tax Threshold penalizing the Dodgers something fierce for obliterating their payroll, the NL West has come back to the Giants to win – considering the LA squad has taken down 4 straight Division Titles.
San Francisco started the process of healing their Bullpen this winter. by forking out some big dollars to secure Closer Mark Melancon ( 4YRs/$62 MIL). There is still a long way to go in shoring up the Relief Core, but they should have the funds to do it.
Which brings me to my next point. Beyond the suspicion that Eduardo Nunez may not be a great long=term fit in the Bay Area, the Roster is pretty secure in the rest of the lineup – except for say the LF position.
There are not a lot of prime Free Agents on the open market that can play the OF. Michael Saunders will cost too much money…Angel Pagan..well the Giants should just say no…Colby Rasmus…yikes…Brandon Moss….um….should be a 1B/DH type in the American League.
As for the depth chart currently for Bruce Bochy‘s squad…..Mac Williamson, Jarrett Parker and Gorkys Hernandez…Not sure that cuts the mustard on a playoff caliber squad.
My thought is – why not sign Matt Wieters to a 3 – 4 year contract worth about $33 – $44 MIL ($11 MIL AAV) – to be the prime Catcher for the Giants – then move Posey to First Base and Brandon Belt to LF? To me it makes sense. Read the rest of this entry
Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/30/16
P- Kyle Hendricks (vs. Pittsburgh Pirates): $10,800. Over the last 17 starts, Hendricks has given up three or fewer earned runs. Included in those starts is his sole start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, which he threw six innings, giving up one earned run, and 12 strikeouts. The Pirates offense has been very mediocre recently, which is in favor of the right-handed pitcher.
P- Adam Wainwright (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $6,900. Wainwright has gone through some struggles recently, but he has been very successful against the Brewers’ lineup throughout his career. In 122 career at bats against Waino, the Brewers are batting .230, with a .264 OBP, and a .321 slugging percentage. In his only start against the Brewers in 2016, Wainwright threw seven innings, giving up seven hits, and he struck out seven.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/27/16
P- Jameson Taillon (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $9,900. Taillon has been incredibly consistent all year long. He is coming off one of his best performances on the mound this year after throwing eight innings of two run ball against the Houston Astros. His last eight outings have been quality starts. In two starts against the Brewers this season, Taillon has thrown 12 innings while giving up only three runs.
P- Marcus Stroman (vs. Minnesota Twins): $9,100. Stroman struggled mightily throughout the first half of the season, but he has done quite well recently. Over his last six starts, he own a 2.45 ERA and 47 strikeouts over 40.1 innings pitched. He has been racking up the strikeouts over his last few starts, which is obviously great for daily fantasy. Minnesota’s offense has been absolutely terrible over the last few weeks, so this should be great for Stroman.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/13/16
P- Tyler Anderson (Philadelphia Phillies): $9,500. Anderson is coming off a very strong start, which he gave up one run, on two hits, and five strikeouts over seven innings pitched against Rangers. Over his last three starts, he has given up a total of four runs (1.80 ERA) with 16 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched. Philadelphia has the worst OPS and OBP against left-handed pitching this season, which is clearly favorable for Anderson.
P- Zach Davies (v. Cincinnati Reds): $7,600. Davies has faced Cincinnati twice this season, which has has done quite well in those starts. In 12.2 innings, he has given up only two earned runs to the Reds. Over his last three starts, he has a 2-0 record, 3.32 ERA, and 12 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/6/16
P- Aaron Sanchez (vs. Kansas City Royals): $10,800. Over the last seven games, Kansas City has struggled at the plate. They have a .202 batting average, .251 OBP, and a .300 slugging percentage. Sanchez has been dominant all year long and it shouldn’t be any different on Saturday as he faces this mediocre Royals’ offense.
P- Jose Berrios (vs. Tampa Bay Rays): $7,100. Tampa Bay’s offense has been lackluster in 2016. Berrios has struggled in his rookie season, but he continues to rack up the strikeouts. In 2016, the Rays have struck out 971 times, which is ranked 26th in baseball. Berrios has the potential to put up a huge game on Saturday if he can stay ahead in counts and keep the Rays lineup off balanced.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 7/24/16
P- Jon Lester (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $10,600. In four career starts against the Brewers, Lester holds a 2.22 ERA with a 2-2 record. Lester has been impressive all year long. He currently owns a 10-4 record, with a 2.89 ERA, and 111 strikeouts in 118.1 innings pitched. Milwaukee ranks in the bottom third in the MLB against left-handed pitching this year, so this favors Lester on Sunday.
P- Rick Porcello (vs. Minnesota Twins): $9,200. Porcello has been on fire over his last four starts as he is unbeaten. In his last time out against the Twins, he gave up only one earned run over seven innings pitched. Throughout the last five years, Porcello has dominated every hitter in the Twins’ lineup, so I don’t see anything different happening on Sunday.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings – 7/19/16
P – Carlos Martinez (vs. San Diego Padres): $10,200. Martinez has been on fire recently. Over his last six starts, Martinez has allowed a total of six runs, which is just insane. Over his last three starts, he owns a 2.00 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. The Padres lineup hasn’t faced CMart very much throughout his career, so this could bring about an element of surprise while he has been red hot.
P – Dallas Keuchel (vs. Oakland Athletics): $8,200. It looks like Keuchel is finally heading in the right direction after a rough start to 2016. Over his last five starts, he owns a 3-0 record, 2.78 ERA, and a 1.18 WHIP. The Astros offense has been red hot recently, so he should get the run support necessary to come out with a win on Tuesday.

Adam Wainwright went the distance, allowing 3 hits and no runs to lead St. Louis past Miami, 5-0.
Khris Davis homered twice in the A’s 5-4 victory over Toronto.
Jake Lamb doubled twice and tripled, tying the game in the 9th and helped set up the winning rally in the 12th as Arizona topped the Dodgers 2-1.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 6/23/16
P- Jerad Eickhoff (vs. Minnesota Twins): $9,400. All of the top tier pitchers have tough match-ups on Thursday, but Eickhoff has a very favorable matchup. He will be facing the Minnesota Twins, who have scored the fewest runs in the American League this year. So far in 2016, Eickhoff is 4-9, with a 3.49 ERA, 83 hits against, and 73 strikeouts in 85 innings pitched. His record isn’t pretty, but it is more a matter of lack of run support, which shouldn’t be an issue against the Twins.
P- Tim Lincecum (vs. Oakland Athletics): $7,100. Lincecum dominated the A’s in his season debut on Saturday. The A’s offense has really struggled recently, so Lincecum should be able to take care of business again on Thursday. Over the last seven games, the A’s rank 29th in runs, 29th in OBP, and 29th in slugging. This will also be Lincecum’s debut at his home stadium, so the crowd will be behind him, which should help him succeed.

MLB Daily Fantasy Picks (DFS) For FanDuel – 5/15/16

Sunday is always a crapshoot with everything involved, so make sure you check your starting lineups, weather and backup Catcher roles.
The game I am keying on more than others today is the game at Camden Yards. With contests in Coors Field, Chase Field and Miller Park also featuring on massive hitter friendly venues, I will be playing a roster on all of them.
The Tigers are still criminally underpriced on FanDuel right now, as their losing streak has a ton more to do with their horrific Late Inning Relief of late.
I am waiting for Justin Upton to start cracking the ball, and will play him on a roster for 2 – 3 weeks once he starts rolling. He is a type of guy who will bash 10 HRs in a month at least once in a baseball year.
In the same game, I am running with Jonathan Schoop, who clubbed 2 jacks Saturday – and could easily go yard again on Sunday.
Adam Jones is also on fire – after early season struggles, and is a nice bargain at $2800. Manny Machado took a goose egg for FPP – and I simply can’t think he will do this two games in a row.
Tentatively, I also have put Nolan Reimold into the lineup, should he not be played, I am going to use Yasiel Puig on a wildcard throw out there at $2400.
I would have loved to have implored the Jays lineup – however they were all way out of whack for the price – so I am only going to use Troy Tulowitzki.
The Tigers are facing Kevin Gausman, yet have several hitters that just lace fastballs.
As for my pitcher – I am going with Masahiro Tanaka. The White Sox have guys that whiff in their lineup something fierce, and I like Tanaka over Miguel Gonzalez in this matchup.

Stephen Strasburg Ties Felix Hernandez For 17th On The MLB’s ALL – Time Top 50 Contract List With Extension

Stephen Strasburg shocked he baseball world the other day – by inking a 7 year extension worth from $175 – $180 MIL. It ties him for 17th All – Time with Felix Hernandez to start with, but he can earn an additional $7 MIL with $1 MIL per year bonuses for reaching 180 IP.
The deal pays him $15 MIL annually from 2016 – 2023, and then the deferrals kick in from 2023 – 2030, in 7 installments of $10 MIL each.
Some will say his deal is worth more like $162 MIL in present day dollars, however we do not operate our top 50 contracts list like that. The deal is guaranteed at $175 MIL for now, and we will change it if bonuses are hit.
With this contract, the Nats have 4 current players that are on this ALL – Time List with Scherzer (10th), Strasburg (T 17th), Zimmerman (37th) and Werth (Tied 44th).
This signing is a great move to open a 3 year window for Washington, as they also have Bryce Harper under team control until after the 2018 season, however it also may seal the fate the of the young reigning NL MVP to move elsewhere for 2019.
Werth’s contract does end at the end of the 2017 year. but Zimmerman is still on the books until at least 2020.
It will be tough to come up with the dough necessary to drop a 11 – 13 years contract worth $35 – 40 MIL per annum when it comes to Harper.
Even with Scherzer’s and Strasburg’s deals both containing a ton of deferred money- all of them will still run simultaneously to Harper’s deal – even if they are not on the roster each after the 2023 season.
I think you couldn’t risk trying to outbid everyone for Harper’s services, yet to pay Strasburg market value makes sense.
This club could even save some payroll by trading Gio Gonzalez, as they have Joe Ross and Tanner Roark starting in the rotation for depth, and Lucas Giolito has not started his time service clock. Read the rest of this entry

2nd Lineup (Look to hit on the Astros again tonight @ Minute Maid Park)
Last night was burned by Dallas Keuchel not pulling his weight on the mound. I am laying off Collin McHugh tonight, as I feel there is to be lots of runs scored against the Twins – with Alex Meyer on the bump, and McHugh toting an over 6 ERA.
I also am feeling the Nationals breaking out the lumber versus Chris Young, and in particular Bryce Harper, who has had a slower 7 day stretch after a torrid pace the 1st 3 weeks.
I am still going to use the Buster Posey, Hunter Pence tandem versus Jon Moscot.
In order to field a huge amount of firepower, that comes with a Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer stack versus Meyer, I used bargain bids of the night in Matt Carpenter ($3900) and Brandon Moss ($2700) against 2nd year man Aaron Nola. Read the rest of this entry
MLB Daily Fantasy Picks DFS For FanDuel 4/26/16

Just like I wrote in my DraftKings piece, I am high on stacks versus Rich Hill of the A’s and Nate Karns of the Mariners.
I seriously couldn’t believe FanDuel still has Cabrera listed at $3400 tonight. This is an absolute steal.
The Mariners do not play well at Safeco usually (are at 2 – 5 this year) – and face a tough task in facing 2015 AL Cy Young Winner Dallas Keuchel.
The ballpark doesn’t scare guys like George Springer, Carlos Correa or Jose Altuve. They are the road team, all hit Left Handed Pitching well, and I think it is time for the Astros to take off.
At least I have 2 games where stacking was present. My hope is that Bryant and Puig both make up for being single picks.
MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings – 4/26/16 – 2nd Lineup
George Springer has crushed 6 HRs and added 12 RBI – with an OPS of 1.025 at Safeco Field in his 15 Games Played there thus far. He also owns an OPS career of .898 against LHP – ans will hit against M’s Lefty Nate Karns tonight. He has also begun to heat up offensively in 2016 – with an OPS of .930 during the last 14 days.

I go about things a bit different from my end for picks and evaluations.
Detroit helped me do quite well in action yesterday in a stack versus the A’s and Kendall Graveman. Miguel Cabrera was the man last night, and I expect a similar result. I am going all out with 4 more Tigers to oppose A’s Lefty Rich Hill,
To help roster a bunch of premiere hitters in the lineup later on in the Seattle game, I also am using Mike Pelfrey against Oakland. I am hoping the confines of Comerica Park will help the RHP keep the A’s hitters at bay. Lets face it, Oakland doesn’t have a bunch of world beaters for their lineup.

Odds To Win The 2016 NL MVP In The MLB: Best And Worst Bets
Yasiel Puig looked like he could be an all world player when he first started his career, however his lackluster attitude over the last few years has people wondering whether or not he will ever make good on his talent. His OPS has gone from .925 to .863 to .758 in the last 3 years respectively. At his optimum output in 2013, that would at least put him consideration for votes toward the award.

Much like the ‘Senior Circuit’ itself, the contenders for the 2016 NL MVP is very top heavy. Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen, Paul Goldschmidt and Giancarlo Stanton are the top 4 favorites to win the Award.
Harper at +200 is not a foregone conclusion, and as just 2/1 odds, the number is not great to wager. I do think the man will win 5 of the next 10 MVP Awards, so I am not placing that mark in the bad value either.
Giancarlo Stanton would have a great chance to win the honor if he could stay healthy – with the Marlins being over .500 for the first time since 2008. It is possible the big slugger could bash out 10 more Home Runs to the next day.
Andrew McCutchen is a perennial contender who should also be in the mix this season. If the Pirates win 90 games again, which I project them to, then Cutch should have another top 5 finish.
Paul Goldschmidt at +550, with a chance for the D’Backs to be in the fight all year could finally be the defining moment for the guy who has finished 2nd in the voting for the last 2 years he has played a full year. Read the rest of this entry

San Francisco Giants Payroll In 2016 + Contracts Going Forward
The Giants have won the World Series in 2010, 2012 and 2014 recently. A lot of the core is still intact for 2016 – and they added Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardija and Denard Span as key Free Agency overs the winter, while the Dodgers may not be as formidable in 2016 either. The Giants finished the 2015 season a disappointing 84 – 78 – which continued their odd year curse. Already at about a total team salary of $176 MIL in 2016 – with an AAV of about $189 MIL – and may be over it before the season ends. They would just be 1st time abusers, so they should go for it if a deal can be struck to improve the club.

Yep. The Giants are heading into an even year this decade – and will try for a fourth time in a row to become World Champions.
The 1st thing we look at when it comes to payroll is how much a team has in guaranteed contracts. This franchise is looking at $176 MIL in 2016.
Jake Peavy, Angel Pagan, Santiago Casilla and Javier Lopez are on the last year of their individual pacts and are not on the payroll beyond this year.
Brian Sabean may consider this when he makes some midseason moves for guys who may be on the last year of their contracts elsewhere.
The Giants spent almost $40 MIL on Disabled List stints in 2015 – and it may have cost them a chance to make the playoffs.
They are the 2nd favored team (+900) to win the World Series (in overall MLB and the NL) to the Cubs (+650)
San Fran has a chance to win 4 rings in 7 seasons, and should not be dissuaded from going over the $189 MIL Luxury Tax Threshold either. The club has paid off all of its debt – and is raking in the cash.
The Giants routinely sellout AT & T Park, and will continue to do so. This venue is considered the #1 stadium by most of the percentage of people who have seen all 30 MLB Parks.
