Shin-Soo Choo reached base 5 times, scoring 3 and driving in another to help the Rangers top Detroit, 9-4.

Sonny Gray threw 7 shutout innings, holding Atlanta to 4 hits. The Reds bullpen would blow the lead but the bats would come to the rescue in extra innings for the 6-4 final.

Max Muncy went 4 for 5 with a homer and a walk off 2 run double in the bottom of the 9th to give the Dodgers a wild 11-10 victory over San Diego.

Earning 1/2 WOBs:

Danny Salazar returned from the disabled list to threw 7 innings of 1 hit shutout ball, logging 8 strikeouts of Toronto batters. He did not get the decision but the Indians walked off 2-1 winners.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 9/10/16

P- Masahiro Tanaka (vs. Tampa Bay Rays): $10,800. Over his last six starts, Tanaka is 5-0 with a 2.08 ERA. That includes a start against the Rays which he gave up four runs over seven innings and struck out eight. While that start isn’t fantastic, Tanaka has pretty much dominated this team over his career. In 84 career at bats against Tanaka, the Rays’ offense is batting .179, with 19 strikeouts, and a .188 OBP.

P- Adam Wainwright (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $8,100. It looks like Wainwright has finally snapped out of his funk. Over his last three starts, he has a 1-1 record, 3.71 ERA, and 15 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched. That includes a start against Milwaukee where he went seven innings, giving up only three hits, seven strikeouts, and one earned run. In 144 career at bats against Wainwright, the Brewers’ offense is batting .215, with 37 strikeouts, and a .245 OBP.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/30/16

P- Kyle Hendricks (vs. Pittsburgh Pirates): $10,800. Over the last 17 starts, Hendricks has given up three or fewer earned runs. Included in those starts is his sole start against the Pittsburgh Pirates, which he threw six innings, giving up one earned run, and 12 strikeouts. The Pirates offense has been very mediocre recently, which is in favor of the right-handed pitcher.

P- Adam Wainwright (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $6,900. Wainwright has gone through some struggles recently, but he has been very successful against the Brewers’ lineup throughout his career. In 122 career at bats against Waino, the Brewers are batting .230, with a .264 OBP, and a .321 slugging percentage. In his only start against the Brewers in 2016, Wainwright threw seven innings, giving up seven hits, and he struck out seven.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/19/16

P- Tanner Roark (vs. Atlanta Braves): $10,600. In nine career starts against Atlanta, Tanner Roark has a 1.77 ERA. In fact, his last start was against the Braves, where he went seven innings giving up five hits, one earned run, and he struck out three. In his two starts against Atlanta this year, Roark has given up one earned run in 14 innings pitched.

P- Adam Wainwright (vs. Philadelphia Phillies): $6,600. This pick does scare me a bit, but I’m going to stick with it. Over Wainwright’s last two starts, he has not been effective at all. Luckily, the Cardinals are giving Wainwright an extra two days of rest because he believes he has found the issue in his windup. This pick is risky, but the other options that are affordable are very risky as well.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/17/16

P- Homer Bailey (vs. Miami Marlins): $8,900. Bailey looked really good in his last start. He went six innings, giving up three hits, one walk, and 11 strikeouts. He will be facing the Marlins on Wednesday, who just recently lost Giancarlo Stanton for the year. Over the last seven games, the Marlins have a .686 OPS, which ranks 26th in Major League Baseball.

P- Yordano Ventura (vs. Detroit Tigers): $7,800. In his three starts against the Detroit Tigers in 2016, Ventura has put up 15.85, 24.65, and 18.35 points in DraftKings. He has also not allowed more than three runs in a start since July 3rd. In his last three starts, he has a 2-0 record, 2.89 ERA, and 15 strikeouts. Over the last seven games, Detroit has a .693 OPS, which ranks 24th in Major League Baseball.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/7/16

P- Gerrit Cole (vs. Cincinnati Reds): $9,200. Cole has been on fire recently. Over his last three starts, he has only given up one earned run in each start. During that time, hitters are only batting .219 against Cole. The Reds’ offense has been pretty lackluster in 2016, so Cole should be able to take care of business.

P- Adam Wainwright (vs. Atlanta Braves): $8,000. Over Wainwright’s last six starts, he has a 1.99 ERA. He will be facing the Braves’ offense, which shouldn’t pose a huge threat to the righty. At only $8,000, Wainwright provides a lot of value to this lineup.

SEE THE REST OF THE PICKS

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 7/21/16

P – Adam Wainwright (vs. San Diego Padres): $10,400. First of all, Thursday’s slate is brutal for pitching match-ups because there are only nine games. With that said, Wainwright is by far the hottest pitcher taking the mound. Over his last three starts, he owns a 0.39 ERA, 3-0 record, and 19 strikeouts in 23 innings pitched. In his last start, he shutout the Marlins while only giving up three hits. In his first start against the Padres this season, he went six innings and gave up three earned runs.

P – Matt Moore (vs. Oakland A’s): $7,600. The Athletics have been very mediocre against left-handed pitcher this season (.737 OPS), so Moore should have an advantage. Moore’s strikeout numbers have been down over his last three starts, but he has gone very deep into game recently to make up for the lack of K’s. During his last start, Moore threw eight innings against the Orioles.

Matt Shoemaker threw a complete game 6 hit shutout, striking out 13 White Sox and gave the Angels a razor thin 1-0 victory.

Adam Wainwright went the distance, allowing 3 hits and no runs to lead St. Louis past Miami, 5-0.

Khris Davis homered twice in the A’s 5-4 victory over Toronto.

Jake Lamb doubled twice and tripled, tying the game in the 9th and helped set up the winning rally in the 12th as Arizona topped the Dodgers 2-1.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 7/2/16

P – Jose Fernandez (vs. Atlanta Braves): $13,800. Jose is expensive on Saturday, but he is worth it. He is facing one of the worst offenses in baseball and he has been red hot recently. Fernandez is coming off an absolute gem against the Chicago Cubs, in which he threw seven innings, striking out 13, and allowing only one run. He is now averaging 13.12 strikeouts per nine innings this season.

P – Adam Wainwright (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $7,500. This is a bit of a risky pick, but it was necessary to choose a cheaper option since Jose Fernandez was so expensive. Wainwright has struggled this season, but he is facing an offense he has dominated throughout his career and they are ice cold over the last seven days. In 137 career at bats against Wainwright, the Brewers’ offense is batting .234, with two home runs, and a .274 OBP.

MLB Power Rankings 2016: Week 7 – May

MAY 15, 2016

Well not much has changed from this week as compared to last week.  Detroit carried its free fall to 4th in the AL Central, the Yankees took 5 of 7 contests – and 7/10 in their homestand to save their season for now.

Miami and Philadelphia continue to stick around in the NL East, and the Giants and Dodgers finally had winning weeks to make the NL West Division Leader respectable.

Nobody looks scarier right now than the Boston Red Sox offense, who led by David Ortiz, Jackie Bradley JR. and Xander Bogaerts, plated 10 runs or more in 5 of the last 6 games, after going their 1st 32 games without doing so.

I am still awaiting for a Jays big winning streak.  Houston has not played winning baseball since the 1st 6 weeks of the 2015 – and are tending to resemble the 2007 Tampa Bay Rays more than anything.

All offense and little pitching and defense.

There is nobody struggling worse than Logan Morrison, Russell Martin, Carlos Gomez and the consortium of LF’s in Anaheim! Recently bouncing out of this list are Jason Heyward and Chase Headley.

We are nearing the quarter pole and rapidly approaching Memorial Day Weekend, so it is not early anymore.

MAY 8, 2016

Disclaimer:  We based these rankings on best strength to win the World Series.  Therefore some teams that have an easier division to play in, with the least path of resistance to the postseason overall may be ranked a lot higher than a club who is equally talented, yet may play in a juggernaut of a division.

Rank – Team Record (Last week rank) (Up down) (W – L Record Last week)

(1) (1)  Chicago Cubs (E) (24 – 6) :  A real bad day for the Cubs is battling with a team like Washington on Sunday, to see whether or not they are going to sweep them or go 3 – 1 in a series.

Yep, they swept the 4 game set in a 13 inning walk off HR by Javier Baez – to cap a 7 – 0 week. They are on pace for about 129 wins right now.

Depth of the Starting Rotation is looking solid with Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester, John Lackey, Jason Hammel (Killer J’s) and Kyle Hendricks.

Hector Rondon is not even needed in most leads, with the team almost at a +100 differential through 30 games,

(2) (3) Chicago White Sox (+1) (22 – 10) ( 4 – 2):  Chris Sale is 7 – 0, and may go Ron Guidry (circa 1979 on us).  If anyone will win 25 games in a year, it would be him or Jake Arrieta.

Bob Welch won 27 games in 1990 for the A’s was the last guy to do that.

Has anyone noticed that Brett Lawrie has an OBP closer to .400 – than his usual .310 – .320?

Jose Quintana is finally receiving some run support.  If Todd Frazier and Jose Abreu start hitting for BA, than look he the hell out.  We could see a “Windy City” World Series for the 1st time since 1906. Read the rest of this entry

6 Big Disappointments So Far During The 2016 MLB Season

Matt Musico (Featured BBBA Writer/Owner – chinmusicbaseball.com)

One month does not a baseball season make, but it still doesn’t mean we’re not pulling our hair out due to incredibly sluggish starts from normally dependable players.

As the calendar flips to May, those small sample sizes we’ve been talking about are getting big enough to become a legitimate concern.

With five months left on the regular-season schedule, there’s still plenty of time to turn things around, but it’ll take longer for stats to return to career norms.

Based on 2015 and what happened throughout the winter months, there were a bunch of players expected to make a significant impact on the field.

Now that April is in the books, we can see the opposite has happened. Here are six big disappointments so far during this young MLB season.

(Joey Votto is a pretty obvious one, so I excluded him on purpose.)

Odds To Win The MLB 2016 World Series

The RedBirds are 11 - 6 since the 1st series sweep against them was levied by the Bucs. The ddsmakers are placing too much faith in the Cubs with the astronomical favorites that they are in being 5 times the favorite to the Cards, and 7 times to the Pirates. Injuries could happen,...Trades...Heck, either club could avoid them until the NLCS -and be on a roll.

Injuries could happen,…Trades…Heck, either club could avoid them until the NLCS and be on a roll. I believe that one of Washington or New York will be the 1st wildcard slot, with the Cards or Pirates being the 2nd team.  They are both among the best bets this week – with the STL #1 for value wagering

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer/Part Owner)

What a bunch of movement on the odds to win the World Series.  There is plenty of value for a lot of plays here.  The Mets are just a few games behind the Nats and absolutely owned them in head to head action last year down the stretch.  New York is 10 – 2 over their last 12 contests, and their offense has been huge.

I don’t see almost double the odds for New York as opposed to Washington.  At last check, the Nats were ahead of the Mets by 4.5 games, and now the gap is just 2 games.

I almost did a double take when I see the confidence of the A’s and Rays on this list.  The two squad vaulted up the rankings with ferocity.  Settle down gamblers.  Oakland is 11 – 10, and Tampa is just 10 – 10, and their lineup is still highly suspect.

The Rays should be somewhere in the +3300 range with new York.  in no way should they be projected higher than the Indians and the Pirates – and on par with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Equally as weird is the faith in the Angels at +2500.  Really?  Look the AL West is wide open, with anyone being able to win this, but to have Seattle and Oakland tied is dumb  The Mariners have the better roster all the way around, and have actually played better of late. Game Records were before the results of the ESPN Sunday Night Game was played.

After a crazy week in which we saw our 1st no hitter, and massive long 16 inning game in Washington, we have for you the MLB Power Rankings.

There was no movement from the top 3 clubs.  The NL West saw the Dodgers take a decent lead on the Giants – and that is major critical, as that is the team most likely to give them trouble in their quest for a 4th straight Division crown.

Bryce Harper has pulverized the Phillies, Marlins, Braves and Twins thus far.  His late inning heroics are taking him to the next level.

The biggest mover and shaker this week was the White Sox, who climbed up 7 slots.  The Giants dropping 8 positions was the biggest decline.

Bad weeks were had by the Tigers, Red Sox, Yankees and Astros.  All clubs in the AL who are supposed to contend for a playoff slot.

The Mariners won their 3rd straight road series against the Angels (after beating the Yankees and Tribe 1s), and sit just a half game back in the AL West.

Oakland had started 7 – 0 on the road, before yielding 15 runs over the last 2 losses to the Blue Jays.  They are tied with the Rangers for the lead in the Division, but it is just a matter of time before they are bounced out in my opinion.

Cleveland had a nice week of 4 – 2 to jump up 5 spots in the rankings. and are that much closer to bringing back Michael Brantley.

Gaining only one spot but having an awesome week were the New York Mets.  All the boys are hitting now, and they are 8 – 2 in their last 10 contests. Read the rest of this entry

MLB DFS Picks For FanDuel – 4/23/16

Bryce Harper has finally come of age as a budding superstar in the league with 42 HRs in the 2015 season - which tied him for the NL Lead. He may be capable of launching up a 50 HR season in his career - however I will believe that he will be pitched around a lot more in 2016 than he was last year.

Bryce Harper has finally come of age as a budding superstar in the league with 42 HRs in the 2015 season – which tied him for the NL Lead. He may be capable of launching up a 50 HR season in his career really soon, and has 8 HRs and 22 RBI though the Nats first 16 Games Played so far.  He is averaging 14.6 PPG on FanDuel, and will be a part of any roster I fill out as the main player, unless an awesome Lefty is opposed to him like Kershaw or Bumgarner.  Using a guy like Michael Taylor to offset the $ is always a good move, or another lateral player that hits 1 – 4 in any lineup and is in the $2500 – $2900 range.

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer/Part Owner)

I will open up by saying that most good fantasy players will play several lineup entries into the contests.  To save face, all of us also will put at least one roster up that takes Coors Field into consideration.

This website knows all to well what the home ballpark in Colorado does for the hitter.  How about hitting .315 as a BA for positional hitters for the Rockies 0 even in the ‘humidor era’?

All the exposing the balls to that room has done is take away the sick amount of homers that were hit.  The spacious outfield is still prone to lots of base knocks.

The reason why I won’t post that lineup is because it won’t help you win any money. The more players that are wagered on (and not unique) makes it unlikely to win any serious money.  You must factor it in to just break even though.

On Saturday, I am loving using Michael Wacha versus San Diego.  Maybe he will have better success against the Padres than his fellow chucker Adam Wainwright had.

With savings to the lineup placed forth by putting in a Danny Espinosa, and creative other value priced Nats in Michael Taylor, we are able to secure Bryce Harper.  I love adding Taylor to offset Harper’s $5900 price tag.  With him leading off a lot, it provides decent chances to at least provide value.

As for the Catcher, I can always switch out before the lineup locks should Matt Wieters not be confident in starting (he never played Friday).  Stephen Vogt, Francisco Cervelli or Miguel Montero would be all right to take the spot. Read the rest of this entry

How Many Years Will It Take Of The AL Clubbing The NL In Interleague (On A 12 Year Win Streak) Before Things Change?

AL vs NL

With a modest 4 – 3 lead in the season series heading into yesterday’s action. the National League was in foreign territory by leading the Interleague yearly contest.  You see that have not won a yearly series vs the AL since 2003.  Houston tied the current campaign series at 4 with a 6 – 4 win Satuday.

The Junior Circuit has won the last 12 years of play, and own a decisive .552 win percentage since 2004 (when the 1st 8 years were split 4 – 4 in the seasons, with the NL holding a 30 games wins lead) in that time frame.

I am a bigger fan of the American League game over the National League, yet I am torn because if these splits continue for more seasons, we will never have more Interleague ever. We may stay the same – or god forbid, eliminate Interleague altogether if expansion leads to 32 clubs (16 in each league) and negating an odd amount of teams per league, not necessarily needing to play it anymore.

Right now there are 20 games for each club against the other League. It boils down to just one division playing another division, and then in most cases, a natural geographical rivalry.

Determining how many games there ought to really be, I turn to the “Team Fatigue card” a lot of my fellow westerners have expressed in so much out this way over the years.

I am close enough to see both NL and AL parks play, but there are several cities that are without a league park of the other for hundreds of miles (like Seattle, Arizona, Colorado, Minneapolis), then KC and St. Louis to a lesser extent, but far away enough to classify a full road trip should you partake in a journey to see.

You can add Texas and Houston, with Tampa and Miami in that mix as well. Read the rest of this entry

Odds To Win The 2016 NL Cy Young In The MLB: Best And Worst Bets

Max Scherzer threw 2 no-hitters in 2015, and carried no - no's into the late innings on a few other occasions. The man set highs in Strikeouts, Innings Pitched, ERA, WHIP and BB per 9 innings. On a club that will win 90+ games, I believe Scherzer will mop up the NL East all season. I am calling for the guy to win his 1st Cy Young in the National League - after winning the AL honor in 2013.

Clayton Kershaw finally didn’t win a NL CY Young Award last season – and it took historical seasons by Jake Arrieta and Zack Greinke to usurp him of the throne.

The Dodgers chucker still fanned over 300 batters (301)  for the 1st time in over a decade, was 16 – 7 – while leading the League in CG/SHO/IP/SO/SO per 9 IP – with still fashioning a ridiculous WHIP of 0.881.

Kershaw finished 3rd in the race, and now has 5 straight campaigns of top 3 finishes.  His +125 odd to win again is about par for the course per this odd, however – just like the American League, I am going to go for the value play more on this list.

Last year’s winner (Arrieta) is next on the faves with a mark of +400.  I absolutely hate this odd, and for one – think it will be an impossible feat to do what he did all over again.  Based on the Cubs offense he won’t need to either.

I see Arrieta still putting forth a great season, with a top 15 Cy Young Vote, but have to call his odd of +400 value the 2nd worst on the board. Read the rest of this entry
