Daily Fantasy Baseball Picks: Rankings, lineup advice for Friday, June 23

TGIF! It’s the weekend and we have a just a week until a 4 day weekend to celebrate MERICA. Today is a great full slate and some great options.

If you’re looking for some more last-minute advice you can follow me on Twitter and DM me (@FantasyAdvice22)

For this daily fantasy baseball season, each day we’ll be writing up a group of pitchers and hitters that we’re considering for our cash and GPP lineups on DraftKings and FanDuel. We’ll also provide a list of stacks to consider. As with any DFS sport, the advice below is relevant for fantasy purposes. A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than they are in real life due to match-up, price, park factor, etc. This is important when constructing a roster.

One thing to remember outside of making sure your guy is in the lineup, is to always check the weather. Always. Make this something that is part of your basic research. Baseball games can get postponed! Your players receive no points from postponed games!

2016 Fantasy Baseball Dynasty League Trades Analysis

Following a 2nd place finish in 2015, this is the active roster I ended the year with:

C– Travis d’Arnaud

1B– Brandon Belt

2B– Robinson Cano

3B– Anthony Rendon

SS– Brandon Crawford

LF– Yoenis Cespedes

CF– David Peralta

RF– Bryce Harper

UTL– Daniel Murphy

Starting Pitchers– Madison Bumgarner, Matt Harvey, Noah Syndergaard, Sonny Gray, Justin Verlander

Relief Pitchers– Ken Giles, Daniel Hudson, Jonathan Papelbon, David Robertson, Shawn Tolleson

Off. Bench– Robinson Chirinos, Justin Bour, Jonathan Schoop, Alex Rodriguez

P. Bench– Nick Martinez, Carlos Rodon, Arquimedes Caminero, Jenrry Mejia, Drew Pomeranz, Tom Koehler

Offensive Prospects– Chance Sisco, A.J. Reed, Kean Wong, Tim Anderson, Jorge Mateo, Eloy Jimenez, Manuel Margot, Bradley Zimmer, Brett Phillips

Pitching Prospects– Edwin Diaz, Anderson Espinoza, Michael Fulmer, Taylor Guerrieri, Pierce Johnson, Yoan Lopez, Francis Martes, Alex Reyes, Jack Flaherty, Casey Meisner, Luis Ortiz

While I did finish the season in 2nd, my roster needed some serious improvements. I had a lot of faith in my ability to scout prospects, so I figured it was time to unload some prospects for win-now talent and trust my ability to refill my minor league system with less publicized talent. You can see all of the trades I made in the offseason and during the 2016 season in order from oldest to most recent below (all trades made prior to the season are in bold and in season is in italics):

7 MLB Rookies Who Have Unexpectedly Become X-Factors For Their Teams in 2016

For a Major League Baseball team to experience success, it’s necessary to receive contributions from all 25 men on the active roster. However, because of injuries, lack of production or a combination of the two, it normally takes even more than that to reach the postseason and contend for a World Series title.

That’s why those under-the-radar signings in the winter are so important. You know what else is important? The contributions from rookies, who began their season in the minor leagues, but are ready and able to make a significant impact at the big-league level.

The following seven rookies are in the future plans for their respective organizations, but may have not been expected to do a whole lot in 2016 after starting the year in the minors. Upon getting promoted, they’ve done one of two things:

  1. Fortify the roster for an expected playoff run in October.
  2. Help those far-fetched dreams of reaching the postseason not seem so crazy.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 7/1/16

P –  Michael Fulmer (vs. Tampa Bay Rays): $10,900. Fulmer has been dominant this season. In 63.2 innings pitched, he owns a 7-2 record, 2.54 ERA, 50 hits against, 60 strikeouts, and 24 walks. The Rays offense has struggled quite a bit in 2016, so Fulmer should be able to take care of business. Prior to Fulmer’s last start, he threw 33.1 consecutive scoreless innings.

P – Tanner Roark (vs. Cincinnati Reds): $9,800. Roark struggled his last time out against the Reds, but he has been spectacular for the rest of the 2016 season. In 16 starts, he owns a 7-5 record, with a 2.96 ERA, 90 hits against, 89 strikeouts, and 32 walks in 100.1 innings pitched. The Reds offense has been miserable over the past seven games, which is a great sign for Roark.

2016 Detroit Tigers Top Prospects; Where They Landed + How They’re Doing

Fulmer, Michael Tigers uniform

Shane Kay (Featured BBBA Writer/Owner – sonsof84tigers.mlblogs.com)

Now that we’ve gotten in to the Minor League season, let’s take a look where the Tigers Top 10 Prospects landed according to Baseball America and how their seasons are starting…

  1. Michael Fulmer, RHP – Fulmer (23), the key piece in the Yoenis Cespedes trade and former 1st round pick; started the season out at Triple-A Toledo. In 3 starts, Fulmer is 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA, giving up 3 home runs, walking 5 and striking out 20 in 15.1 innings.  The K per 9 (11.7) is strong, the homers per game should come down and the walks are manageable.  The concern right now is contact with 9.4 hits per 9 which leads to a WHIP of 1.370.  Fulmer was the only Tiger to make the Sons Of ’84 Top 100 MLB Prospects for 2016 list
