Earning Full WOBs:
Luis Castillo blanked the Marlins over 7 innings, giving up just 2 hits, as the Reds took the game in a 14-0 laugher.
Gerrit Cole prevented any big inning from the Yankees, holding their bats to 4 hits and 3 runs, and gave the chance for the Astros to come back and win, 6-3.
Mitch Garver went 4 for 5 with a pair of homers off of deGrom to lead the Twins to a shocking 14-8 drubbing of the Mets.
Victor Robles capped a 3 hit game with a 2 out, 2 strike 9th inning home run to tie the game and propel the Nationals to a 10-6 come from behind victory in Philadelphia.
Earning 1/2 WOBs:
Robbie Erlin threw 3 innings of no hit relief, striking out 4 Giants. It was too little and too late as the Padres fell, 7-2.
Yasmani Grandal went 3 for 4 with 2 homers but the Brewers dropped the 11-8 slugfest to the Angels.
Mike Minor was strong over 7 innings, allowing just 2 runs and striking out 5 Diamondbacks. The Rangers bullpen blew the 5-4 game in the bottom of the ninth.
Yoán Moncada homered and added another hit, driving in a pair, in the White Sox 10-5 loss to Tampa Bay.

Trevor Bauer dominated the Twins 7 innings, allowing 1 hit, 1 walk and 1 run, striking out 9, setting up Cleveland’s 2-1 victory.
Cody Bellinger led the Dodger attack with 4 hits, including 2 homers, driving in 6 in the 18-5 mashing of Arizona.
Asdrubal Cabrera reached base 4 times, including a double and a homer, helping the Rangers come from behind to out slug the Cubs, 8-6.
Kenta Maeda pitched into the 7th, allowing 3 runs in 6 2/3 innings, fanning 6 Diamondbacks and earned the 18-5 decision for the Dodgers.
Earning 1/2 WOBs:
Freddie Freeman singled twice and doubled twice, driving in a pair in Atlanta’s 8-6 loss in Philadelphia.
Jake Odorizzi struck out 11 Indians over 6 innings of 1 hit ball. He did not get the decision as the Twins bullpen dropped the 2-1 game in the 9th.
Yoán Moncada went 3 for 5 with a 2 run homer but the White Sox came up short against Kansas City, 8-6.
Jose Quintana came out of the bullpen to give the Cubs 4 innings, striking out 8 Rangers along the way. Texas would rally late and take the 8-6 final.

Yoan Moncada walked, singled, homered and doubled to lead the White Sox offense to a 10-1 thrashing of the Royals.
Lucas Giolito pitched shutout ball into the 7th, finishing with 6 1/3 scoreless frames, striking out 6 Royals to earn the 10-1 victory for the White Sox.
Brian Anderson went 3 for 5 with a homer and a double, driving in 3, as the Marlins doubled up the Phillies, 10-5.
Julio Teheran pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, striking out 6 Diamondbacks, earning the 5-1 decision for the Braves.
They all owned baseball on July 15, 2018

Teoscar Hernandez homered, tripled and singled twice, driving in 4 runs to help the Blue Jays clobber Kansas City, 15-5.
José Berríos did not allow a walk or a run over 7 innings, giving up 3 Cleveland hits. The Twins took the 2-1 game in 16.
Corey Seager reached base 5 times, including 2 doubles and 3 RBI as the Dodgers took the Padres, 13-4.
Chris Stratton struck out 8 Diamondbacks over 7 innings, allowing 1 run. The Giants bullpen would blow his lead but win the 4-3 game in 10.

Patrick Corbin took a no hitter into the 8th and finished with a complete game 1 hit shutout, striking out 8 Giants as the Diamondbacks won the 1-0 thriller.
Lance McCullers Jr. allowed an early solo homer, a walk and nothing else as he held the Mariners to 1 hit over 7 innings, striking out 11 in the Astros 4-1 victory.
J. T. Realmuto homered and singled, driving in 4, as the Marlins humiliated the Yankees in the Bronx, 9-1.
Mookie Betts homered three times, including a lead off shot, and walked twice to lead the Red Sox to a 10-1 thrashing of the Angels.

It is time for our yearly letter to head to the north pole. Perhaps the ‘fat old jolly’ guy will respond promptly at the 2016 Winter Meetings.
The Bronx Bombers will also ask for their former Captain to please make more appearances in the public eye so they can milk the retiring of Derek Jeter‘s #2 on May 14, 2017 for about the next 6 months in a viable smokescreen to their 2017 performance.
Boston: Can we ask that Richard Simmonds become Pablo Sandoval‘s personal trainer all offseason?. For a guy who had more broken belts than hits in 2017, Sandoval can re-write his Boston legacy by proving what he can do when they are in the 2017 playoffs.
There also needs to be a discounted rack at Fenway Park for all of the S-Medium shirts that may have been there for the recently departed Yoan Moncada.
The Red Sox are always the clubhouse leaders in big tall lanky pitchers who herk and jerk when throwing, so can we ask the home broadcasting network for extra wide lenses.

- Yoan Moncada (BOS, 21 Years Old, 2B): Moncada has stolen my heart and he has stolen the top prospect in my midseason rankings. In 414 plate appearances between High-A and Double-A, Moncada is batting .294, with 12 home runs, 43 stolen bases, .404 OBP, and a .513 slugging percentage. He is blocked by Dustin Pedroia at second base, but there is a good chance the Red Sox move him to third base or to the outfield at some point. Regardless of what position he plays, Moncada will be an elite ball player, and an even better fantasy player. He has the ability to steal 40+ bases, with an on base percentage of .370+, and 20 home runs or more in a season. Needless to say, those statistics would put him in an elite class in fantasy baseball.

Trade Rumor: Will The Los Angeles Angels Flip Mike Trout?

As of right now, the Angels only have 3 starting pitchers listed on their depth chart (Jared Weaver, Hector Santiago, and Nick Tropeano).
This team is falling apart and it could be time to make a drastic move.
They are currently 13 – 18, but they are expected to continue to drop in the standings considering their team can’t stay healthy. Just to make matters worse, their farm system is widely considered to be the worst minor league system in baseball.
With that said, is it time for the Angels to consider trading Mike Trout to restock their farm system and focus on building their team for the future?

Boston Red Sox Payroll In 2016 + Contracts Going Forward
With adding the contracts of David Price and Craig Kimbrel in recent player moves, this pushes Boston to near $200 MIL in team payroll for 2016. I think they should try to add a few pitchers near the 2016 Trade deadline. With a lot of money tied up in the future, any player they take on should have their contracts end in 2016. Boston stands to pay 17.5% for money spent over the $189 MIL limit. They could run with a $220 MIL salaried club in 2016 and only pay around $6 MIL in additional fees. Do it, and pale it back afterwards.

Well the Boston Red Sox are finally going to join the Dodgers and Yankees as teams that cross the Luxury Tax Threshold for 2016. This was made possible by recently picking up David Price for 7 YRs at $31 MIL average per year.
Already in 2017, the team is committed for around $162 MIL – and that is without their stalwart DH of David Ortiz anymore. 2018, the salary obligations are at $151 MIL, and the franchise has already lumped $139 MIL on the books fr the 2019 cash.
This is a leap of faith for the franchise, as they were always reluctant to pay top dollars for Free Agent Pitchers.
Last year’s signings of Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez are looking like poor moves right now, however they can be helped with bounce back years in 2016. Read the rest of this entry
Its Time For Boston To Break From Philosophy + Sign An Ace: Red Sox State Of The Union 2016
The Red Sox will need to spend some money on Starting Pitching this season – and preferably and ace.. They orchestrated a trade for Closer Craig Kimbrel on Friday. A bona fide shutdown guy with 225 Career Saves and an ERA of 1.63 lifetime. The winter has just started for the Beantowners. With many veterans currently aging, and the young nucleus all being under team control, the time to capitalize on the higher drafting as a result of finishing last in the AL East 3 times in 4 years is right now.

Okay, for years the Boston Red Sox would never pay for a #1 Starter on the Free Agent Market – even their owns. They traded away Jon Lester prior to trying to resign him in 2014, and it backfired on them when he hit the Free Agency market not having played his entire career in Boston.
For the most part, I have agreed with the idea of not paying a guy as an ace. Here is the problem..The team had finished last in the AL East 3 of the last four campaigns, and that is unacceptable.
You add in Ben Cherington doling out long term deals to Rick Porcello, Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval in the last year, and all had bad years. So the temptation may not be to sign anyway. Again, wrong.. You are the Boston Red Sox.
Well mired in the lower tiers of records the last 4 years (except for the 2013 season), the club has accumulated a great deal of talent in the Minor Leagues.
The franchise is in great shape heading forward, but this comes down to the right time to strike on the rest of the league. Read the rest of this entry

Boston’s Management Strategy May Help Club Prevail Again In 2015 AL East
Ben Cherington pulled off the biggest salary dump in MLB History in 2012, with his clearing the deck of Gonzalez, Crawford and Beckett. He replaced them with savvy, playoff tested Veterans – on lower value, and year contracts. His club won the 2013 AL East (and the World Series of course) with the revamped squad – that improved almost 30 Wins from 2012. Last season, the club suffered another last place finish, however he dealt away Jon Lester for Yoenis Cespedes, and then turned that asset into Rick Porcello. The club also was able to sign Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval for this year, and have also inked Rusney Castillo and Yoan Moncada to long-term deals since last summer. The Red Sox are showing the way to handle a roster year to year. If you are in it, spend the money, and when you are out, trade anybody of value not in your long term plans.

The terrible news of Marcus Stroman‘s ACL earlier this week has dampened the chances the Toronto Blue Jays chances to really take a shot at the Division.
Let me qualify this more….
I think the Jays will compete all season, and may take a run at one of the Wild Card Spots for sure, it just at this time of the year, losing any pitching hurts big time.
Toronto is already lacking an ace, but that is not a cause for grave concern in this Division, with the AL East possessing exactly zero of them now, following the departures of Jon Lester and David Price in the last 9 months. If ‘Cash’ Was Handled Right – The Yankees Could Get 2015 Payroll Under The Luxury Tax This Year
A few years ago, the Yankees were trying to get under the Luxury Tax Threshold just a few years ago, before they dished out $175 MIL over 7 years to Masahiro Tanaka. Despite that, the club could have opted to get under last July by trading Kuroda, Suzuki and Gardner near the Deadline, instead of going for an ill-advised run at the playoffs. At an estimated $211 MIL team salary so far, there are options to drop the mark under the limit yet again if the club struggles. Should they not take advantage this time, they are completely dumb beyond recognition.

Losing out on Yoan Moncada Sweepstakes
The Yankees fans let out a collective groan. but the cost of Yoan Moncada would be even more money than his $31.5 MIL signing bonus – and additional $31.5 MIL penalty. How about tacking on another $15.75 MIL for part of their $50% Luxury Tax Penalty?
I agree with the Yankees not wanting to shell out nearly $80 MIL for an unproven teenager. There are a numerous of examples of can’t miss prospects that won’t pan out.
The Yankees are estimated to have a payroll of near $221 MIL. But the actual AAV is a little higher with the length of term bringing up the overall mark. Alex Rodriguez makes $21 MIL in 2015, but he 10 year pact, was for an AAV of $27.5 MIL overall, so that is the number that brings up the clip.
If the Yankees are on pace to have spent $215 MIL in 2015, so by July, that means they would have put out about $105 MIL at the ALL-Star Break. This gives about $84 MIL worth of room, but you must take off around $27 MIL to fall under the limit.

With almost $100 MIL tied up in contracts for Sabathia, A-Rod, Teixeira and a potential Tommy John Surgery candidate in Masahiro Tanaka, this New York squad is in some deep trouble for next season. Despite the recent playoff misses, and injury prone players brought in by Brian Cashman, the club saw fit to grant him a 3 year extension last month. It may take a small miracle for them to make a playoff spot next campaign.

The Yankees have long used the prolong success of the “core four” to drive them to go far in the playoffs. They then surrounded them by free agents and other homegrown players.
Today the Yankees are in some trouble and if they aren’t smart this offseason they will remain hampered by large contracts for a long time instead of a quick retool to be VERY competitive in two years.
