Daily Matchups for 7/18/2016
Pitcher
STUDS
Jose Fernandez- He is facing a Phillies team that he has dominated in the past. Fernandez has held them to a .238 BA (10 for 42) while striking out 12 and not allowing an extra base hit. He’s the pitcher of the night.
Chris Sale- Is coming off a bad start against the Braves but he’s facing a Mariners’ team that he’s held to 17 hits in 81 ABs (.210 BA). He’s let a lot of people down lately but is in prime position to help a team. He’s $1,100 cheaper than Fernandez and $300 more expensive than Kluber. If you can pair him up with cheap bats, we could be in store for a great night for pitching!
Corey Kluber- Kluber has faced the Royals twice so far this year and has fared well for the most part. He faced them on June 15th and lasted only 5 innings while giving up 8 hits, walking 1, striking out 7 and got only 21 FP on Fanduel. Back on June 5th Kluber pitched 5 innings giving up only 2 hits while striking out 6 and securing the win and 48 FP. We’re hoping he gets the same results as his June 5th outing.
MID RANGE
Mike Fiers- Love Fiers as a very under-owned option for Monday’s slate. He’s facing the Atheletics who struggle at times. Lifetime against the A’s, Fiers has held them to a .230 BA (14 for 61) with 14 Ks and 10 ground outs. He has a 21.5% K percentage and makes an intriguing GPP option. He’s coming off a terrible start against Seattle lasting only 3.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and only 10 FPs and that could put his ownership down less than 10% tonight which is what it’ll take to take down a GPP.
Jon Lester- Lester is facing the terrible Mets who love to strike out. Lester has held them to a .254 BA (52 for 205) while striking out 50 and a 21.7% K rate. Lester has struggled his past couple of starts and could deter people away from him, we look for him to have a great game tonight.
VALUE
Mike Leake- He’s not always an attractive option but he does get a matchup against the Padres. Leake has held them to a .231 BA (15 hits in 65 ABs) while striking out 17 and giving up only 2 HRs. Love him for a very cheap option to load up on bats.

Adam Wainwright went the distance, allowing 3 hits and no runs to lead St. Louis past Miami, 5-0.
Khris Davis homered twice in the A’s 5-4 victory over Toronto.
Jake Lamb doubled twice and tripled, tying the game in the 9th and helped set up the winning rally in the 12th as Arizona topped the Dodgers 2-1.

Daily Matchups for 7/15/2016
Pitcher
STUDS
Madison Bumgarner– MadBum pitched last Sunday and absolutely dominated the D-Backs with 14 Ks, 1 hit, complete game shut out. He logged 81 FP on Fanduel and now has a great matchup against the Padres. Lifetime against the Padres he’s given up only 28 hits in 161 ABs allowing 3 HRs and 51 Ks. He’s the most expensive pitcher on the slate, but he’s in line for a terrific game again.
Stephen Strasburg- Stras is coming off a game against the Mets where he pitched 7 innings of no-hit ball with 9 Ks and 57 FPs. He gets face a Pirates team that he’s held to 8 hits in 41 ABs (.195 BA) with 14 Ks. He’s pricey but in a great spot again tonight to start the weekend.
MID RANGE
Marcus Stroman- Stroman has dominated some strong offenses lately (Royals, Indians) and gets a great matchup tonight against a terrible Oakland offense. He’s been able to hold this team to a .200 BA only 3 hits in 15 ABs with 5 Ks. I like him as a tremendous option at less than $8k on Fanduel.
VALUE
Bartolo Colon- The Big man didn’t get into the All-Star game on Tuesday even though his manager was the coach and now he gets to face the Phillies which should be good news on this extra rest. Lifetime against Philly he has held them to a .256 BA (40 for 156) with only 4 HRs given up (3 of them are from Howard who is terrible) and 37 Ks. He’s a great value play to load up on bats tonight.
Yovani Gallardo- I really only like this pick because he’s facing a terrible, terrible Rays team who love to strike out.

Lots of teams need pitching.
Not a lot of great pitchers are available.
Zack Greinke is a great pitcher.
The Diamondbacks are going nowhere.
By the time they are contenders, Zack Greinke will probably no longer an ace and his contract will be an unbelievable burden on the Diamondbacks.
See where I am taking this? Time to shop Greinke while his injuries are minor.

I have thoughts on the All Star Game. Pitchers are not facing enough batters. Players are being lifted too quickly. And I still don’t understand why the American League was the home team in San Diego.
Plus I realize that being fair is irrelevant in baseball.

Who Owned Baseball July 12, 2016 – All Star Game Edition (Daily #MLB AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2016 #WOB Standings

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports
Eric Hosmer hit a solo homer and an RBI single to propel the American League to a 4-2 victory in the All Star Game.
Will Harris got a key strikeout with the bases loaded to preserve the American League’s 4-2 advantage in the All Star Game.
They Both Owned The 2016 All Star Game.
And earning 1/2 WOBs are:
Daniel Murphy got a pair of hits and made a key defensive play in the National League’s 4-2 loss in the All Star Game.
Kenley Jansen struck out the only batter he faced on 3 pitches in the National League’s 4-2 defeat in the All Star Game.

RUMORS: Houston Astros To Call Up Top Prospect, Alex Bregman
Following a very impressive appearance in the the MLB Futures Game, Houston Astros’ top prospect, Alex Bregman, could find himself back in a Major League Baseball stadium very soon. There has been rumors and reports that the Astros could call up Bregman as early as this weekend. While nothing has been confirmed, this is very exciting news for baseball fans and fantasy owners.

New York Mets Must Improve in These 6 Areas in the 2nd Half
Manager Terry Collins and his New York Mets had to deal with what many viewed as a potentially season-defining 11-game homestand prior to the All Star break. On the surface, they succeeded by going 7-4 against the Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins and Washington Nationals.
However, it was likely one of the most frustrating 7-4 homestands fans will ever experience because New York missed a golden opportunity.
The importance of this stretch prior to baseball’s midseason break was only magnified because the Mets arrived at Citi Field fresh off losing five of seven to the Nats and Atlanta Braves. The pitching staff continued to do their job for the most part, but it was the offense that resembled the 2015 squad before acquiring Yoenis Cespedes, not after.
This group then came alive by sweeping a four-game set against the Cubs, followed by taking two of three from the Marlins. Things continued looking up on Thursday, as New York battled back with the help of Wilmer Flores to win the series opener against Washington.
Those good feelings faded quickly as Stephen Strasburg, Max Scherzer and Daniel Murphy displayed why they’re All-Stars this year en route to the Nats winning three straight, building their NL East lead to six games.
Finishing the first half with a 47-41 record isn’t bad considering what New York has dealt with since April, but they must improve in these areas if they want to return to the playoffs this October:

At the All Star Break, I take a look at what players are in the leading spot for awards like MVP and Cy Young.
And I references the Coen Brothers as a way to reconcile the fact that Mike Trout probably won’t win the AL MVP.
I am out of my element in this episode of The Sully Baseball Daily Podcast.
Madison Bumgarner, David Price, Jacoby Ellsbury, Christian Yelich, Steven Matz, Sean Manaea, Brett Eibner and domestic abuser Jose Reyes all added to their totals for Who Owns Baseball yesterday.

[Video] Cubs’ Prospect Makes Catch of the Year, in MLB Futures Game

In Sunday’s MLB All-Star Futures Game Chicago Cubs’ prospect Eloy Jimenez launched himself over the railing and made an unbelievable catch in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.
Playing for the World Team, in the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 outs there was foul ball that nobody should have caught but Jimenez did just that. Even Matt Vasgersian couldn’t believe the catch. If anyone has played MLB The Show for Playstation the announcing made it sound like we were listening to the in-game broadcast. Couple that with the video game type catch, this was a heck of a showcase we look to continue watching the Cubs in the future.
