The NL is top heavy.  The Astros have had a tough schedule and might be alright.  Jake Arrieta is sickly good, and no one should ever pitch to Bryce Harper, who may sign with the Yankees in a few years.

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer/Part Owner)

I am all for thinking that Jake Arrieta will continue to deal with the rest of the pitchers, but he is so overpriced on FanDuel, that it will kill the rest of your roster.  Yes his PPG is astronomical, and the experts will say to always use he or Clayton Kershaw on days they are pitching.  I won’t do it, and then split next to nil with the rest of the punters.

I love betting against the Braves each and every day  – and will keep the tradition going for probably the whole year here. Steven Wright is at home versus the powerless Braves.

By using that guy, I am able to stack two lineups with the Red Sox and Nationals, where I can use David Ortiz and Bryce Harper on my roster.

Using the Washington squad minus Daniel Murphy was necessary to implore the Xander Bogaerts, Dustin Pedroia and Ortiz move.

The Nats should still hit those guys 1, 2, 3 and 5 tomorrow, or maybe Werth at 6 vs Jeremy Hellickson.

Bryce Harper was walked 3 times on Tuesday – and you can count one a free pass about once a game right now. Read the rest of this entry

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 4/27/16

John Minchillo - AP

John Minchillo – AP

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

P- Jake Arrieta (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $13,800. Arrieta has not slowed down since his Cy Young Award-winning season in 2015. Through 4 starts in 2016, he has thrown 31 innings (7.75 innings per game), with a 0.87 ERA, 26 strikeouts, 6 walks, 15 hits given up, and a 4-0 record.

He comes at a very steep price, but he is worth it based on his success this season and the great match-up on Wednesday.  Arrieta is facing a Brewers’ offense who is ranked as the 18th best in run production, 29th in hits, and 25th in strikeouts in Major League Baseball.

Arrieta will exploit this team and should put up at least 20 points on Wednesday. He is averaging 32.3 points per game on Draft Kings this season. He comes at a very steep price, but his point production is worth it.

P- Jose Berrios (vs. Cleveland Indians): $6,900. For those of you who don’t know me, I’m a huge Jose Berrios fan. He will be making his MLB debut against the Cleveland Indians.

Throughout his minor league career, he is averaging 9.5 strikeouts per 9 innings with a 2.91 ERA. Many pitchers are rushed to the bigs, which can hurt their development, but the Twins have taken their time with Berrios.

He is very ready for this step in his career and I think he is a steal at only $6,900. Be aware that they will limit his innings, so don’t expect him to go past 6 innings on Wednesday. Luckily for daily fantasy owners, his strikeout ability should counteract the innings limit.

What To Expect From Minnesota Twins’ Right-Handed Pitcher, Jose Berrios

jose berrios

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

Jose Berrios was one of my favorite prospects heading into 2016. He is finally getting his shot at the big leagues after getting called up today to make a start over the next week with the Minnesota Twins. He hasn’t thrown since last Thursday, so he is fresh and ready to go whenever the Twins need him.

He was called up because Ervin Santana and Tyler Duffey are both injured and Berrios could be needed to fill in for them. Also, starting pitchers, Kyle Gibson and Tommy Milone, have been pretty brutal since the start of 2016, so their rotation could use a jumpstart from Berrios.

This is the perfect opportunity for Berrios to prove he belongs in the Twins’ rotation permanently. Now that he is in the big leagues, what can we expect from Jose Berrios?

Five Must Add Waiver Wire Claims In Fantasy Baseball

usa-today-9265066.0

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

1Blake Snell (LHP; Tampa Bay Rays): Snell made his much anticipated major league debut earlier this this week against the New York Yankees. He threw 5 innings, giving up 2 hits, 1 earned run, 6 strikeouts, and 1 walk.

This left-hander has done nothing but impress scouts over the past two years, so it is no surprise to see his success in his first start. Following his debut, he was immediately sent down to Triple-A, but it shouldn’t be long before he is back up with the Rays. In 2015, Snell made the jump from High-A to Triple-A. He threw 134 innings, with a 1.41 ERA, 163 strikeouts, 53 walks, and a 15-4 record.

He has a plus fastball with lots of movement, a sharp slider, and a developing changeup. His command could still use some work, but it is very clear that he is ready for a full-time spot in the Rays’ rotation. If you have room on your roster, now is the time to stash Snell before he gets promoted again.

It is only a matter of time before Snell finds himself in the rotation considering the Rays are currently using a 4-man rotation.

2016 Detroit Tigers Top Prospects; Where They Landed + How They’re Doing

Fulmer, Michael Tigers uniform

Shane Kay (Featured BBBA Writer/Owner – sonsof84tigers.mlblogs.com)

Now that we’ve gotten in to the Minor League season, let’s take a look where the Tigers Top 10 Prospects landed according to Baseball America and how their seasons are starting…

  1. Michael Fulmer, RHP – Fulmer (23), the key piece in the Yoenis Cespedes trade and former 1st round pick; started the season out at Triple-A Toledo. In 3 starts, Fulmer is 1-1 with a 4.11 ERA, giving up 3 home runs, walking 5 and striking out 20 in 15.1 innings.  The K per 9 (11.7) is strong, the homers per game should come down and the walks are manageable.  The concern right now is contact with 9.4 hits per 9 which leads to a WHIP of 1.370.  Fulmer was the only Tiger to make the Sons Of ’84 Top 100 MLB Prospects for 2016 list

What Is Wrong With Houston Astros’ Pitcher, Ken Giles?

Giles640_041716

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

The Houston Astros acquired young flamethrower, Ken Giles, from the Philadelphia Phillies this offseason. The Astros paid a king’s ransom for Giles considering they gave up top prospect, Vincent Velazquez, former #1 overall pick, Mark AppelBrett Oberholtzer, and Thomas Eshelman. Giles’ cost was so high because of his young age, success, and his team control for the next 4 years.

Unfortunately for the Astros, this trade hasn’t quite worked out as people expected. Giles continues to struggle, Velazquez continues to shine, and Mark Appel seems to be back on track.

Following the trade, the Astros were expected to name Giles the opening day closer over the previous closer, Luke Gregerson.

Well, the unexpected happened during spring training. Giles struggled to get people out and the Astros decided to name Gregerson the opening closer for 2016. Many Astros’ fans believed this was going to be temporary, considering the Astros paid so much for 25 year old closer, but this situation doesn’t seem to be temporary anymore.

Through 8.2 innings pitched in 2016, Giles has a 8.31 ERA, 2 losses, 13 hits given up, 3 walks, and 12 strikeouts. The start of the season is not Giles-esque considering in his first two seasons with the Phillies, he threw 115.2 innings, with a 1.56 ERA, 84 hits given up, 151 strikeouts, 36 walks, and 16 saves. So that brings up the question every Astros fan and fantasy baseball owner is asking, what is wrong with Ken Giles?

MLB Daily Fantasy Picks DFS For FanDuel 4/26/16

cabrera11

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer/Part Owner)

Just like I wrote in my DraftKings piece, I am high on stacks versus Rich Hill of the A’s and Nate Karns of the Mariners.

I seriously couldn’t believe FanDuel still has Cabrera listed at $3400 tonight.  This is an absolute steal.

The Mariners do not play well at Safeco usually (are at 2 – 5 this year) – and face a tough task in facing 2015 AL Cy Young Winner Dallas Keuchel.

The ballpark doesn’t scare guys like George Springer, Carlos Correa or Jose Altuve. They are the road team, all hit Left Handed Pitching well, and I think it is time for the Astros to take off.

At least I have 2 games where stacking was present.  My hope is that Bryant and Puig both make up for being single picks.

We have a guy (Trey Rose) who is an excellent MLB Fantasy player – and he has been posting links from his site on ours.  Trey does his own lineup everyday – so here is his link

I go about things a bit different from my end for picks and evaluations.

Detroit helped me do quite well in action yesterday in a stack versus the A’s and Kendall GravemanMiguel Cabrera was the man last night, and I expect a similar result.  I am going all out with 4 more Tigers to oppose A’s Lefty Rich Hill,

To help roster a bunch of premiere hitters in the lineup later on in the Seattle game, I also am using Mike Pelfrey against Oakland. I am hoping the confines of Comerica Park will help the RHP keep the A’s hitters at bay.  Lets face it, Oakland doesn’t have a bunch of world beaters for their lineup.

I am big on the Houston Astros bringing some lumber versus the Seattle Mariners tonight – and starter Nate Karns.

I have enlisted Carlos Correa, George Springer and Jose Altuve to do my bidding against the M’s.

In rounding out my lineup on offense, I opted for Buster Posey versus James Shields.  Posey offers the greatest Catcher to hit on most nights.

Since the savings were so good on Mike Pelfrey,  I am launching David Price versus the Braves.  Atlanta has lost 6 games in a row, are 4 – 15 for the year, and also can’t hit worth a lick.  Good luck against Price fellas. Read the rest of this entry

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For Draft Kings 4/26/16

MAX20150614_022530_max-scherzer

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

P – Max Scherzer (vs. Philadelphia Phillies): 12,900. It is no secret how dominant Scherzer can be when he is on the mound. He is facing a very weak offense on Tuesday, whom he has dominated throughout his career. The Phillies are ranked as the 19th best offense in Major League Baseball.

He faced the Phillies earlier this season and threw 7 innings, giving up 5 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk, and 7 strikeouts. Throughout his career, the Phillies are hitting .174 against Scherzer over 132 at bats. Scherzer is pitching at his home stadium on Tuesday for the first time since April 11th, so he could put on a show for his home crowd.

P – Ricky Nolasco (vs. Cleveland Indians): $6,700. In order to afford some big bats, it was necessary to take a risk and go with a cheaper pitcher. In 2016, Nolasco is averaging 18.6 points per game on Draft Kings. He will be facing the Cleveland Indians’ offense on Tuesday, who is ranked as the 20th best offense in Major League Baseball.

Nolasco is known as a boom or bust option, so hopefully he booms on Tuesday. In 91 career at bats against Nolasco, the Indians’ offense is hitting .231 with 18 strikeouts.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For Draft Kings 4/25/16 – Take 2

zz marcus stroman

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

The match-ups for April 25th are exciting, so I decided to do a second version of my picks. You can see my original picks at the following link: CLICK HERE.

P – Noah Syndergaard (vs. Cincinnati Reds): $11,400. Syndergaard has been an absolute beast this year. In 3 starts in 2016, he has thrown 20 innings, with a 0.90 ERA, 29 strikeouts, and only 4 walks. \

He is currently averaging a massive, 31.9 points per game on Draft Kings. He will be facing the 23rd best offense in Major League Baseball, the Cincinnati Reds, on Monday.

Syndergaard will also be pitching in his home stadium, which is always a plus to have your hometown crowd behind a pitcher. Considering what he has done this season, it is near impossible not to start him on Monday.

P – Marcus Stroman (vs. Chicago White Sox): $8,700. Stroman’s price seems a little low for Monday, but it is probably due to the fact that multiple elite pitchers are throwing on Monday. Regardless, this is good news for daily fantasy players.

Stroman has faced some incredibly tough offenses this season. His four starts consist of the Rays, Red Sox, Yankees, and the Orioles…. yikes. His stats are inflated because of his tough match-ups in my opinion.

In 28.1 innings pitched, he has a 4.13 ERA, 15 strikeouts, and 7 walks. He isn’t going to rack up a bunch of strikeouts, but he should go deep into Mondays game. He is facing the White Sox, who have the 24th best offense in baseball.

Stroman will be pitching on his home turf, against a sub-par offensive team…. this could be a great match-up for this low price.

There is awesome value with the Detroit Tigers players on Monday.  You have Miguel Cabrera all the way down to $3700, Victor Martinez to $2600 and Justin Upton to $3000.  I have the Tigers 2 – 5hitters all lined up in a stack.

Against conventional wisdom, I have Carlos Gonzalez against a LHP.  With it being Jeff Locke, and CARGO hitting right behind Nolan Arenado, there would have been a nice 3 – 4 combo.  Except for than it would mean a weaker OF move with Nori Aoki, and Jose Iglesias at SS.

Now I get to use  J.D. Martinez, Carlos Correa and Kyle Seager instead of Arenado, Iglesias and Aoki.

When you can put together a lineup where all 8 guys have been ALL – Stars in the past, and are capable of doing some yard work, than this is exciting. Some of the guys are struggling for sure, but that is why they are priced so low currently.

Starting Pitchers

Marcus Stroman vs White Sox, $8100

Ross Stripling vs Marlins, $7600

Rick Porcello vs Braves,  $7400

Team Stacks

Detroit Tigers vs Kendall Graveman

Seattle Mariners vs Doug Fister

Colorado Rockies vs Jeff Locke

Sample Lineup

MLB Power Rankings 2016: Week 4 – April

One is the #1 club in the whole MLB right now, and the other was the biggest mover and shaker of the week for week 3 of MLB action.  Both are leading the Central Divisions in their respective leagues behind awesome starting pitching and timely power.

Disclaimer:  We based these rankings on best strength to win the World Series.  Therefore some teams that have an easier division to play in, with the least path of resistance to the postseason overall may be ranked a lot higher than a club who is equally talented, yet may play in a juggernaut of a division.

Game Records were before the results of the ESPN Sunday Night Game was played.

After a crazy week in which we saw our 1st no hitter, and massive long 16 inning game in Washington, we have for you the MLB Power Rankings.

There was no movement from the top 3 clubs.  The NL West saw the Dodgers take a decent lead on the Giants – and that is major critical, as that is the team most likely to give them trouble in their quest for a 4th straight Division crown.

Bryce Harper has pulverized the Phillies, Marlins, Braves and Twins thus far.  His late inning heroics are taking him to the next level.

The biggest mover and shaker this week was the White Sox, who climbed up 7 slots.  The Giants dropping 8 positions was the biggest decline.

Bad weeks were had by the Tigers, Red Sox, Yankees and Astros.  All clubs in the AL who are supposed to contend for a playoff slot.

The Mariners won their 3rd straight road series against the Angels (after beating the Yankees and Tribe 1s), and sit just a half game back in the AL West.

Oakland had started 7 – 0 on the road, before yielding 15 runs over the last 2 losses to the Blue Jays.  They are tied with the Rangers for the lead in the Division, but it is just a matter of time before they are bounced out in my opinion.

Cleveland had a nice week of 4 – 2 to jump up 5 spots in the rankings. and are that much closer to bringing back Michael Brantley.

Gaining only one spot but having an awesome week were the New York Mets.  All the boys are hitting now, and they are 8 – 2 in their last 10 contests. Read the rest of this entry

Call it a hunch – but I think the Detroit Tigers are due to break out Monday.  How long can Miguel Cabrera, J.D. Martinez and Justin Upton kept off the powersheet?

The value is there right now for a full stack against Kendall Graveman.  I love Jordan Zimmermann, but I believe he will also surrender some runs tomorrow.

Give me the Boston Red Sox over the Atlanta Braves any day  Rick Porcello has actually thrown better of late, and that is a cupcake offense in Atlanta.

I will always do a separate Coors Field entry, but that is just a safeguard. I still have Nolan Arenado vs Jeff Locke in the game Monday.

Toronto has scored 15 runs in their last 2 games, and are about to hit their stride.   I opted for Troy Tulowitzki.  I was looking at Jose Bautista, however he holds poor numbers versus Miguel Gonzalez. Read the rest of this entry

The New York Yankees Week In Review: The Good And The Bad Of Week Three

Wayne Cavadi's avatarWayne Cavadi's Online Portfolio

A frightening start to the week has quickly turned positive as the New York Yankees are on the verge of a sweep of division foes. I keep insisting that it is not time for fans and the Yankees to press the panic button, and the way this week has ended, it is the right course of action. Is it ugly right now? You bet, but it’s also April.

1. Can’t blame the starters this week.

As The Pooch said earlier in the week:

You get quality starts out of Pineda, Eovaldi and Severino… and get swept.

It’s true. Michael Pineda, Nathan Eovaldi and Luis Severino came out against the first place Oakland As and threw 18 innings of quality baseball, allowing just six runs over that span. Equally impressive is that the three pitchers combined to walk just two batters.

The problem was the bullpen. Last week’s player of…

The Boston Red Sox have gone through their fair share of pitching woes over the past several seasons. Despite signing a blue chipper in David Price last offseason, the 2016 season has still been one of inconsistency for their staff.

While it seems there is still work to be done, the surprise emergence of knuckleball starter Steven Wright may end up going a long way towards fortifying the team’s starting rotation.

Bryce Harper And Mike Trout Get All The Attention That Manny Machado Deserves Some Of Too

Manny Machado

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

It is no secret that Bryce Harper and Mike Trout are considered the two best players in fantasy baseball, but Manny Machado deserves to be in that discussion.

One of the most discussed questions in fantasy baseball is, “which player is the best?” Prior to 2015, an overwhelming majority would have given that honor to Mike Trout.

After a history-making season in 2015, Bryce Harper broke onto the scene and people started to question whether or not he should be considered the best in the business. While Harper and Trout were getting the spotlight, I’m sure Manny Machado was thinking, “well, what about me?”

Machado deserves to be in the discussion for one of the best fantasy baseball players after his breakout 2015 season, and his torrid start to 2016. Before discussing Machado, lets take a look at Harper and Trout.

Matt Musico (Featured BBBA Writer/Owner – chinmusicbaseball.com)

The MLB’s regular-season schedule is 162 games long for a reason – it’s a marathon, not a sprint. While we’re not even at the three-week mark yet, it’s still long enough for us to get a good glimpse as to which players are off to surprisingly great starts.

Baseball is a game of failure, but it’s also a game of averages. Even if a player is white-hot for a certain period of time, they’ll eventually come back down to Earth and maybe even go into a slump to even things out (unless your Bryce Harper). However, some players may use a hot start to propel themselves to a new benchmark moving forward when it comes to their career norms.

Whether the current narrative about players is good or bad, they still have five months of games left to prove themselves, one way or the other. With that in mind, here are five players who have been pleasant surprises thus far.

And yes, I know the obvious ones like Harper, Tyler WhiteTrevor Story and others are not on this list. I did that on purpose.

It is Sunday and time for The Sunday Request

Man. Tough crowd. Just a few starts in and Corey Kluber is called a fluke? Yes, I think Cleveland has the pitching to turn the season around.

They are a Cleveland team! What could possible go wrong?

MLB DFS Picks For FanDuel – 4/24/16: (All Day Lineup)

fanduel

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer/Part Owner)

Seeing on how many points Tanner Roark acquired vs the Twins on Saturday (66 PTS on 15 SO and 7 IP,) I am confident on Stephen Strasburg dominating the Twinkies on Sunday.  Yes the price is high, but this is Sunday. so there are some cheap options to replace your roster.

Since I am having Bryce Harper in any lineup also right now, I took 3 cost effective Mariners to help me bring the price down.  With Righty Matt Shoemaker toeing the hill for the Halo’s, I have Adam Lind, Seth Smith and Nori Aoki in my lineup.

Lind is starting to heat up after a brutal start ( 3 straight multihit games), and holds an .859 OPS career vs RHP.  Smith is equally as good, with an .839 OPS vs RHP.  Call it a hunch. but these guys are due to break out.  Shoemaker served up 24 gopher balls in 135 IP last season, and has served up 3 more in 16 IP this season

I went with hot hitting Yan Gomes as my Catcher.  Dude raked on Saturday.  If they don’t play him make sure you switch him out with Chris Iannetta (or anyone else in the $2400 to $2600 range)

Chris Coghlan is also a nice move in case of an OF being sat in Seattle.

Jed Lowrie is also a decent value play at $2400, as he has hit .409 in the past week and is opposing Drew Hutchison on Sunday.

The play here is for Strasburg to be the #1 pitcher by far Sunday. and then hope to have the lineup just all contribute.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For Draft Kings 4/24/16

zz draft kings

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

P – Jared Eickhoff (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $8,500. Eickhoff has been a stud all year long. He is averaging 22.9 points on Draft Kings this season. In his first 3 starts, he has thrown 19 innings, 1.89 ERA, 21 strikeouts, and only 5 walks. He will be facing the Brewer’s offense, which is nothing special.

Through the first few weeks of the season, the Brewers are ranked as the 29th best offense… that’s bad. They also strikeout the third most (156 total strikeouts) in the Major Leagues, which is great for a strikeout-pitcher such as Eickhoff.

P – Aaron Blair (vs. New York Mets): $6,800. I’m going out on a limb here, but I love Blair in this match-up. He is making his Major League debut and he is playing in his home stadium. The crowd will be behind him and he will be pumped up.

The Mets offense has struggled all year long, so this could be a good first taste of the big leagues for Blair. In Blair’s minor league career, he is averaging 8.3 strikeouts per 9 innings, with a 3.13 ERA. This start could backfire considering no one knows how Blair will fair in the bigs, but at only $6,800, it won’t hurt too badly.

Texas is always a favorite for this competition, but they were knocked out on Friday night by the Chicago White Sox and Jose Quintana. On a good note, being blanked has them tied for the AL lead in quickest to 11 variations in 3026 MLB Runs Scoring Survivor with the Seattle Mariners – with 9 out of the 11 runs scored scenarios in games thus far.

Chuck Booth (MLB Reports Majority Owner/Lead  Analyst)

Texas was the 20th squad to see all of their run totals of a game all see zeroes on Friday night.  The White Sox and Jose Quintana provided the opposition – and knocked out one of the best clubs to be left in this category.

So there are now 10 clubs left in this quest to be last team bageled in 2016.

The 4 American League teams remaining are overall favorite Toronto, and the potent offensive of Baltimore are also alive  Surprisingly,  the A’s have to be blanked, and not surprising, the Astros are still on the board.

I fully expect the O’s, Jays and Astros to lead the league in HRs 1, 2 and 3, so this is about right.  Oakland on the other hand is the odd man still there.  Kudos to them for a great start to the campaign.

In the NL, the Rockies are always hard to keep from scoring – and are blessed with a nice run scoring home stadium.  Pittsburgh, Arizona and Los Angeles are worthy choices of being left in the running.

Washington should be a tough out here as well. Read the rest of this entry
