Yesterday’s answers:

Q1.  Best Slugging PCTG ever by a rookie was Ted Williams, slugging .609 in 149 Games and 677 Plate Appearances in 1939.  Ryan Braun had just 492 AB in his 1st year despite his .634 Slugging mark in 2007, but failed to qualify by a mere 9 PA.

Q2.  Bill Bevens owns the dubious distinction of walking the most batters ever in a World Series Game with 10, against the Brooklyn Dodgers in Game 4 of the 1947 Fall Classic.  He threw a no – hitter until 2 outs in the 9th inning, before giving up the Game winning Double to Cookie Lavagetto.

Q3: C:  Jimmie Foxx hit 7 HRs in his last year of play during 1945, Babe Ruth only managed 6 HRs in 1935, and Mel Ott hit 0 HRs in 1947.

Q4:  C:  Chuck Dressen led the Brooklyn Dodgers to a 105 – 49 record in 1953, which is still the watermark win total for the franchise ALL – Time.

Q5:  An All Royalty Team could be led by:  Duke Snider, Earl Averill, Jeff King, Prince Fielder and Mel Queen. Read the rest of this entry

Notable HRs FRI June 20th: EE Mashing Again, Smith + Martinez (X2) Party In Detroit

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer):

Edwin Encarnacion has continued his torrid pace for HRs, after a quick brief spell had cooled him down.

Last night, he took over the lead in the AL+ overall MLB, with his 22nd and 23rd HRs.  Not only that. he has risen past everyone in the MLB for RBI as well with 62.

It was hit 6th Multi HR effort since May 8th. and he is on a 2 game HR streak.  If indications are anything, he will club another long ball today, as the man already possesses 3 3 game HR streaks.

EE has now blasted 20 HRs and added 40 RBI since May 6th.

Back at that point, the man was struggling with his power at 3 HRs, and was still decently productive with 19 knocked in.  The Blue Jays were in a 3 way tie for the cellar of the AL East.

They have ridden the big 1B’s filthy hot bat to a 29 – 16 record, and have sole possession of the division right now. Read the rest of this entry

Cincy Latest Team To Complete MLB Runs Survivor 2014: Only NYY, NYM, ATL + ARI Left

Cincinnati Reds

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer):

Follow The MLB Reports On Twitter

The game should have been a great way to cap off their run survivor, with plating 9 runs in a contest for the 1st time this campaign.

Instead, Edwin Encarnacion and CO. kept obliterating baseball into orbit at Great American Ball Park Friday night.

The Blue Jays erased a 8 – 0 2nd inning deficit, to tally a 5 run win at 14 – 9.

But all is not lost Reds fans.  Your team has finished their 11 different scenarios, and therefore have placed 26th in the 2014 MLB Runs Scored Survivor.

This leaves the Yankees, Braves, Mets and D’Backs still on the clock.  Arizona is the only team that needs a 9 run affair, while the Mets, Braves and Bronx Bombers all need exactly 8 runs to come across in a match. Read the rest of this entry

Odds To Win The 2014 World Series + Best Value Bets Based On Trade Deadline Speculation

Welcome to your new World Series Favorite. according to the oddsmakers. I see their rationale. The A's have the best record in the Majors, and also the biggest lead within their Division. Oh yeah..this club has back to back West Titles, and a deep lineup in a parity league that is the AL. While I don't endorse them as the favorite for the World Series right now (based on predicting playoffs solely), there is no doubt I would rank them #1 in power rankings currently.

I had another on fire week last week, with 5 right predictions, and 5 draws, with zero outright losses.

Furthermore, Cincinnati jumped from +5500 to now being +4000 – with making it back to .500 last night.

I also have seen the KC Royals skyrocket from +8000 2 weeks ago, to now be sitting pretty at +2500.  The Royals were my best bets 2 weeks ago.

Your new favorite to win the World Series is the Oakland A’s at +650.  I understand the odd believe me, but this will be temporary.

I fully expect the Nationals to take over this position if their recent pitching trends continue.

Also if the Dodgers can come within 2 games of the Giants, they will take over as the Fall Classic Favorites once again.

Again this week I hate the Blue Jays being among the heavy favorites for the title.  These guys gave been slipping recently, and the Orioles and Yankees are breathing down their necks in the AL East.

I also firmly believe with the AL West stranglehold the A’s are sure to bury the Angels, and if Detroit is a matchup for any WILD Card winner out of the AL West, heck even the Royals with James Shields, I favor them over any Halo’s pitcher for 1 game. Read the rest of this entry

Clayton Kershaw pitched a masterpiece of a no hitter, the second for the Dodgers this season. He walked none, struck out a career high 15 and only an error prevented his 8-0 triumph over the Rockies from being a perfect game.

John Lackey pitched 9 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits, 1 walk and struck out 9 Twins. He got a no decision as the game went into extra innings, but the Red Sox walked off as 2-1 winners.

Starlin Castro went 3-5 with a pair of doubles, drove in a pair and scored twice, leading the Cubs past the Marlins, 6-1.

Brian McCann homered, tripled and drove in 5 runs as the Yankees beat the first place Blue Jays, 7-3.

The Most Recent No Hitter For Each Franchise (Updated For Clayton Kershaw, June 18, 2014)

Chris Carlson - AP

Chris Carlson – AP

The second Dodger no hitter this season!

Well Josh Beckett didn’t last long on this list! Less than a month ago, Beckett threw the first no no of the year. Tonight, the ace of the Dodger staff showed the Rockies why he is a multiple Cy Young winner.

In fact, only Hanley Ramirez‘s error kept him from being perfect.

It is safe to say that he will take it.

Still no San Diego Padres nor Washington Nationals no hitter yet (although the Nationals franchise have no hitters as the Expos and the city of Washington had some with the Senators.)

It is time to update my list!

The Arizona Diamondbacks are a disgrace of an organization. They are “fake tough” and showed yesterday that winning is not priority number one.

In the wake of the beanball that led to a Brewers grand slam, Kirk Gibson and Kevin Towers need to go. The organization is rudderless and need to be make major changes now.

That is the topic for today’s episode of The Sully Baseball Daily Podcast.

Jonathan Lucroy had the final word in the beanball war in Arizona. He followed a hit by pitch with his second homer of the game, a grand slam, that gave him 5 RBI and put the Brewers up for good in their 7-5 embarrassment of the Diamondbacks.

Mike Trout got three extra base hits, including a pair of homers, drove in 4 runs and sparked the Angels 9-3 victory in Cleveland.

Matt Shoemaker pitched 8 strong innings, letting up 2 runs and struck out 10 Indians, earning the 9-3 decision for the Angels.

Michael Wacha pitched 6 innings, striking out 7, giving up just 5 hits and 1 run on a solo homer. He and the Cardinals beat the Mets, 5-2.

How All Of The Diamondbacks Hitters Were Acquired (2014 Roster Tree)

How All Of The D’Backs Hitters Were Acquired:

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst/Website Owner):

The Diamondbacks are having a brutal season at 30 – 44 thus far, and are now under the microscope of Tony La Russa.

This has to be done for good reason.  The club’s transaction record recently is highly suspect even though they are being led by veteran GM Kevin Towers.

When covering this Roster Tree (just for the hitters) I have found a disturbing trend of 2 team and 3 way trades that may not be beneficial to the long term success for the snakes.

The 1st one coming to mind is shipping out Trevor Bauer, Bryan Shaw and Matt Albers for a fringe 1B prospect in Lars Anderson, Reliever Tony Sipp and shortstop Didi Gregorius (even though Chris Owings was already in the system). Read the rest of this entry

How All Of The Texas Rangers Hitters Were Acquired (2014 Roster Tree)

The Rangers had back to back World Series Appearances in 2010 and 2011 - and have 4 straight seasons of collecting 90+ Wins - with 370 victories overall. 2014 has been an injury plagued season, robbing the club perhaps of putting forth a 5th consecutive 90 win campaign. Despite this, the organization has done spade work to be mentioned as a top franchise over the last 5 years. This Roster Tree proves a little of this.

The Rangers set up their franchise for years to come in 2007, when they pulled off a trade of ALL – Star Mark Teixeira – to acquire several players in the franchise that they are still seeing solid returns.

My absolute favorite transaction tree is finding out the Michael Choice branch of trades.

It dates back to the team signing Todd Van Poppel as a Free Agent before the 1998 season.

Out of all of the players the team currently has, only Leonys Martin, Mitch Moreland and Rougned Odor and Jurickson Profar are composed of team draft picks – with the latter being hurt right now,

It works like 6 degrees of separation. By searching back to the origin of all the way back until a player is signed, drafted or purchased.

It totally gives you an idea on how the franchise has fared.

Toronto absolutely stole Jose Bautista from Pittsburgh, and then saw Edwin Encarnacion selected off of waivers by the A’s, only to see him return as a Free Agent 6 weeks later.

The Blue Jays have seen EE bash out several seasons worth of awesome since then.
