The Most Recent No Hitter For Each Franchise (Updated for Combined Dodger No Hitter)
Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan

Orlando Ramirez / USA TODAY Sports – SNLA
Now THAT was a show for the folks of Monterrey Mexico!
In a game that was drenched in rain, the fans who braved the weather were treated to a combined no hitter. Walker Buehler took the first six. Tony Cingrani, Yimi Garcia and Adam Liberatore each threw a no hit inning and an unlikely group of arms etched their names into Dodgers history.
They knocked a more likely name off of this list… Clayton Kershaw.
Of course they did this against the Padres, still looking for their first No Hitter in Team History.
Now to update the list.

FIRST NO HITTER OF THE YEAR!!
Evidently Jake Arrieta and Max Scherzer are the only pitchers allowed to throw no hitters! Well, Arrieta was given plenty of run support and earned it with his second masterpiece in less than a year.
Who knows? Maybe it will be a magic year for the Cubs.
It is time to update my list!

New York Mets Payroll In 2016 + Contracts Going Forward

So you are the New York Mets, and you have just lost the World Series, what is next? First off, you have several Free Agents walking out the door that you may not be able to re-sign. Most notably Yoenis Cespedes and Daniel Murphy.
Forget about the postseason in which the man was banged up, Cespedes was one of the biggest reasons you even made it to the playoffs to begin with. The Mets should try to sign him.
Daniel Murphy carried you through two rounds of the postseason – but looked horrible in the field during the World Series. So what is the prognosis on his status with the club? Let him walk… His playoff numbers, coupled with a high need for second baseman in the Majors may well skyrocket his next deal.
At first glance though, this is not the end of the world for the Wilpon led New York franchise. The entire Starting Staff could be composed of team controllable salaries. Bartolo Colon is a Free Agent now too, but maybe he would sign a small guaranteed contract with incentives. Read the rest of this entry →

The Most Recent No Hitter For Each Franchise (Updated for Max Scherzer, October 3, 2015 )
Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan
TWO NO HITTERS IN ONE YEAR!!
Well you can not blame Max Scherzer for the Nationals’ woes! He came to DC and found himself getting two no hitters in the same year!
The last time someone did two in one year it was Roy Halladay doing one in the regular season and another in the the Division Series.
Scherzer had the second game of a lifetime and Washington has its third no hitter since the last day of the 2014 season after not having one since 1931.
Not a bad way to say goodbye to the season for Scherzer.
It is time to update my list!

I think the Cubs have their Wild Card Game Starter!
No offense Jon Lester. But I have a feeling that Jake Arrieta is the right man for the job.
No hits, 1 walk, 1 error and 12 strikeouts? And the Dodgers get no hit AGAIN in the last 2 weeks.
Not a bad night for the man we can all call the Cubs ACE!
It is time to update my list!

ASTRONOMICAL!
Mike Fiers pitched a masterpiece tonight. The Astros pitcher threw a no hitter and totally shut down the reeling Dodgers, retiring the last 21.
It is the kind of game that could be the inspiration for ONE first place team and the low point for another.
And while we are here, let’s salute Roy Oswalt, Peter Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel andBilly Wagner . They were the Astros pitchers who combined for a no hitter back in 2003. It was fun for them to be listed here until tonight.
But this is Mike Fiers night!
It is time to update my list!

A Masterpiece for Iwakuma!
This has been a let down of a season for the Seattle Mariners, but what a highlight for Iwakuma. The 5th no hitter in Seattle Mariners history and the first since the perfect game by Felix Hernandez in 2012.
It was also his first career complete game. It is a good thing they didn’t bring in Fernando Rodney for the 9th.
It is time to update my list!

The Most Recent No Hitter For Each Franchise (Updated for Cole Hamels, July 25, 2015)
Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan
If this is Cole Hamels final game with the Phillies, what a way to go!
The Phillies should take advantage and trade Hamels RIGHT NOW before anyone thinks he has any arm issues. Getting an ace fresh off of a no hitter?
I think he is in good shape.
This is also the first no hitter thrown against the Cubs since Sandy Koufax in 1965. A cool fact but the end of a Twitter account called @CubsNoHitStreak which reminded the world of their ability to break up no nos in every game since.
Alas, it is no more.
No. 7,921: Cole Hamels has no-hit the Cubs. The Streak dies.
— Cubs No-Hit Streak (@CubsNoHitStreak) July 25, 2015
A few more thoughts… Cole Hamels has started more no hitters since September 1, 2014 than the Padres and Mets have had in their history combined.
But his last no hitter was a combined one, so that means Jake Diekman, Ken Giles and Jonathan Papelbon are off the list now.
They didn’t last long… not as long as Indians pitcher Len Barker who has been on this list since 1981.
It is time to update my list!

Max Scherzer gets his first no hitter!
He nearly got a no hitter in his last start and nearly threw a perfect game (ah those hit by pitches.) I think he will take it. Man, Jordan Zimmermann didn’t last long on this list. After no Washington no hitter since Bobby Burke’s gem for the Senators in 1931 and no franchise no hitter since Dennis Martinez’s perfecto in 1991, Zimmermann ended the regular season of 2014 with a no no.
Now Scherzer takes Zimmermann’s place. And by the way he has been pitching, he will be back.

The first No Hitter of 2015!
Lots of Giants greats have thrown no hitters, from Christy Matthewson to Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain. Now add Chris Heston to the list. Just think. In 2013, the Giants designated him for assignment and anyone could have picked him up.
I bet the Giants are glad nobody did.
With a 5-0 masterpiece, Chris Heston has his own piece of history and removes his teammate Lincecum from this list.
I am sure Tim is fine with it.

The first Washington No Hitter since 1931!
No Washington Nationals pitcher has ever thrown a no hitter. The last one thrown representing Washington? Bobby Burke, who no hit the Red Sox in August of 1931.
That’s all over now!
Jordan Zimmermann threw the first Washington Nationals no hitter (and the first in Franchise History since Dennis Martinez‘s perfect game as a member of the Montreal Expos.)
9 complete, 1 walk and 10 strikeouts of the Marlins, who for the second straight year end the season on a no hitter. Last year Henderson Alvarez won 1-0 over Detroit. This year the Marlins LOST 1-0.
Odd symmetry.
Safe to say, Jordan Zimmermann looks solid for this post season.
It is time to update my list!

Hey Phillies Fans! You finally have something to cheer about!
I bet when Jonathan Papelbon didn’t get dealt this trade deadline, he didn’t think he would be closing out a no hitter.
Cole Hamels gets his name in the no hitter ledger, but now so do Jake Diekman, Ken Giles and Papelbon of all people. A 7-0 win for the Phillies was NOT exactly what the Braves needed right now, but the Phillies have a highlight for the season.
Sadly that means taking Roy Halladay’s Division Series no hitter off this list, but oh well. History waits for nobody, especially not Jake Diekman,
It is time to update my list!

Is Tim Lincecum done? NOT TODAY!
The Giants needed to have a decent pitching performance and give their bullpen a break. What did they get? A masterpiece from Tim Lincecum. For the second straight season, Giant fans can say “Tim is not a Cy Young contender anymore, but at least he gave us a no hitter this year.)
The list of Giants pitchers with more than one no hitter? It is short but impressive:
Christy Mathewson
Tim Lincecum
Good company to be in.
And like last year, Lincecum did it against the Padres, the only remaining franchise without a no hitter.
(Yes, I know, the Washington Nationals haven’t had a no hitter either. They had no hitters when they were the Montreal Expos.)

The second Dodger no hitter this season!
Well Josh Beckett didn’t last long on this list! Less than a month ago, Beckett threw the first no no of the year. Tonight, the ace of the Dodger staff showed the Rockies why he is a multiple Cy Young winner.
In fact, only Hanley Ramirez‘s error kept him from being perfect.
It is safe to say that he will take it.
Still no San Diego Padres nor Washington Nationals no hitter yet (although the Nationals franchise have no hitters as the Expos and the city of Washington had some with the Senators.)

*** Denotes Division Leaders
Records are before play Monday May.26, 2014
RK Team Last Wk Rnk () Current Rec – Last 16 Days Rec
1. ***San Francisco Giants 32 – 19 (3) 10 – 4: The Giants have the best team in the Majors record wise, and have done so without dominate pitching, and Buster Posey hasn’t taken off yet.
The San Fran players are using the ‘someone is always on fire’ offense. Even Brandon Hicks is clobbering HRs out of 2B. Depth prevails here. 4 Games up on the Dodgers.
2. ***Oakland Athletics 31 – 20 (2) 8 – 5: The A’s did lose 3 straight to the Blue Jays, however they had scored 76 runs in 11 Games prior, and pasted 10 on the board yesterday.
Brandon Moss is an underrated slugger, and Josh Donaldson has 4 separate game HR streaks this year.
Showing that depth at Starting Pitching can do well even if players go down with TJ Surgery. Read the rest of this entry →

The most recent no hitter for each franchise (Updated for Josh Beckett, May 25, 2014 )
Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan
The first no hitter of the year!
Josh Beckett tosses a no no against the Phillies and joins the Dodger legends like Valenzuela, Koufax and Bill Singer. The 6-0 blanking of the Phillies gives him his great Dodger highlight (going along with clinching the World Series for the Marlins and being a playoff MVP for the Red Sox.)
Still no San Diego Padres nor Washington Nationals no hitter yet (although the Nationals franchise have no hitters as the Expos and the city of Washington had some with the Senators.)

Odds To Win The 2014 MLB World Series – Updated For Week 8 + Best Value Bets
Posted by Jonathan Hacohen

If Chris Davis is at his HR centric best, all of a sudden this team is lethal from Nelson Cruz, to Adam Jones, and hence should I say a healthy Matt Wieters crushing from the DH slot, or potentially this team could ink a Morales, or trade for another guy. Pitching Staff is holding up, and now it is time for this team to roll. Having New York, Toronto and Boston so heavily favored over them for this category is a farce. Take the +3500 value.

I had my worst week for prognosticating the best odds, however I made up for it, with the worst odds of the week. In all, I was 4 – 4 – 2 for the week. I still have not had a losing record, and many winning ones.
The Rays and Royals have plummeted in their odds for the World Series. I am not sure about either one of them getting back into the race, although that Tampa +5000 this week is very tempting.
The Kansas City offense is a joke. They should sign Kendrys Morales after June, and then turn around and trade Billy Butler. Morales won’t make much more than “Country Breakfast” and is a more consistent hitter all around.
You could also acquire some more depth somewhere else for Butler’s services. Heck, Seattle needs a DH right now, and they aren’t even calling Morales for all we know, and are going with Nick Franklin until Corey Hart is back. Read the rest of this entry →

The Washington Nationals have had an escalating salary structure for the last few years. The truth is that their talent needs to be paid as time goes on.
In 2014, the Budget is looking to be around $130 MIL so far, after just being over $110 MIL.
The situation is more expensive next year, with 10 players under the Arbitration Eligible – highlighted by Stephen Strasburg for his 2nd year of it.
Among the others are: Craig Stammen, Danny Espinosa, Tyler Clippard, Doug Fister, Drew Storen, Ross Detwiler, Wilson Ramos, Jerry Blevins, Jose Lobaton and Ryan Mattheus. Read the rest of this entry →

The Mets Signing Colon To 2 YRs/$20 MIL – Is Just Par For The Course Of Insane!
Posted by Jonathan Hacohen

PED use or not, Stem Cell technology, and who knows what else has aided Colon’s body over the last 3 seasons of success. Yes he was 18 – 6, with a 2.65 ERA – finishing 6th in AL Voting, however the A’s went and paid someone else to fill his spot (Scott Kazmir), and usually they are not wrong on guys. The 40 Year Old from Dominican Republic, is also a gigantic man who decimated his hamstring during a routine PFP in 2011 with the Yankees. You have to think his lucky streak is numbered sooner or later. Whether it is another failed drug test, or he blows out a ligament running anything down, or just has father time come down on him, signing this man to a 2 YR deal, for a team not probably contending in 2014, is downright absurd.

‘Stoking The Fire’ – Week 9
The Mets are like a gambling addict that has been clean for a few years, before suffering a serious relapse.
This club is just coming off a season where they doled out $18 MIL for Jason Bay (who they released – and still owe $3 MIL in 2014) and Johan Santana ($25.5 MIL and a $5 MIL Buyout for 2014).
These are guys that never played for you during the 2013 season. Oh yeah…They still contribute annually to the Bobby Bonilla ‘liquor fund’ – thanks to a long restructured contract from many moons ago.
So now that they have altered their club to don a new era of “Strike out Champs”, they have gone overboard in throwing down a 2 YR/$20 MIL contract for a 300 LB PED user like Bartolo Colon.

The Most Recent No Hitter For Each Franchise
Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan
Last season had a flurry of no hitters, ending with Homer Bailey‘s gem that eliminated the Pirates from contention.
This season has been filled with one near miss after another, including close calls from Yu Darvish and Anibal Sanchez. When would the first no hitter of 2013 be thrown?
I guess only Homer Bailey is allowed to throw no-nos now. He threw a gem with only one walk against the punchless Giants and joined the likes of Roy Halladay and Mark Buehrle as a pitcher with multiple no hitters.
Let’s take a look at each franchise’s most recent no hitter:
FOR EACH FRANCHISE

Matt Garza – July 26th, 2010
5-0 over Detroit.

Edwin Jackson – June 25, 2010
1-0 over Tampa Bay

Dallas Braden – May 9, 2010
4-0 over Tampa Bay. (Perfect Game.)

Ubaldo Jimenez – April 17, 2010
4-0 over Atlanta.

Carlos Zambrano – September 14, 2008.
5-0 over Houston.

Jon Lester – May 19, 2008.
7-0 over Kansas City.

Anibal Sanchez – September 6, 2006.
2-0 over Arizona.

Roy Oswalt, Peter Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel and Billy Wagner –
June 11, 2003.
8-0 over New York Yankees.

Bud Smith – September 3, 2001
4-0 over San Diego.

David Cone – July 18, 1999.
6-0 over Montreal. (Perfect Game.)

Francisco Cordova and Ricardo Rincon – July 12, 1997.
3-0 over Houston. (10 innings.)

Hideo Nomo – September 17, 1996.
9-0 over Colorado.

Kenny Rogers – July 28, 1994.
4-0 over California. (Perfect Game.)

Kent Mercker – April 8, 1994.
6-0 over Los Angeles.

Bret Saberhagen – August 26, 1991
7-0 over Chicago White Sox.

Dennis Martinez – July 28, 1991.
2-0 over Los Angeles. (Perfect Game.)

Bob Milacki, Mike Flanagan, Mark Williamson and Gregg Olson – July 13, 1991.
2-0 over Oakland.

Dave Stieb – September 2, 1990.
3-0 over Cleveland.

Juan Nieves – April 15, 1987.
7-0 over Baltimore.
CLEVELAND INDIANS
Len Barker – May 15, 1981.
3-0 over Toronto. (Perfect Game.)
Bonus
WASHINGTON SENATORS
Bobby Burke – August 8, 1931
5-0 over Boston.
The Padres are still on the clock. And it would be nice to simplify the list with the Nationals having a no hitter instead of including the Expos and Senators.
When will the next no hitter be?
Well, when’s Homer Bailey’s next start?

Miguel Cabrera is absolutely unconscious this season so far; He has a 3 Slash Line of .369 (Leads AL)/.445 (Leads AL/1.121 (2nd in AL), with 17 HRs (2nd AL) and a mind – blowing 65 RBI through 54 Games Played. He is on pace for 51 HRs, 195 RBI and about 250 Hits. He keeps getting better every single year if possible. Despite his prominence – and a lineup full of ALL – Star hitters and Pitchers, the Tigers are limping along at just a few games over .500. It certainly isn’t this 30 Year Old’s fault.

Brandon Webb’s career was noteworthy and a warning

Brandon Webb is retiring from major league baseball, according to Jerry Crasnick of ESPN.com. This hardly seems like a monumental announcement this spring. Webb has been out of sight and out of mind since the beginning of the 2009 season. His official retirement notice is reminiscent of a band announcing their breakup long after they had their last hit.
But Brandon Webb’s career, brief as it was, was remarkable and also should be remembered the next time an ace pitcher looks for a long term extension.
As outlandish as it may sound now, Brandon Webb was putting together the beginning of a Hall of Fame career. This is not hyperbole.
The former University of Kentucky star was an 8th round draft pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2000.
He shot up through Arizona’s farm system and by 2003, the 24 year old Webb was a major leaguer and finished 4th in the Rookie of the Year vote. He posted a 2.84 ERA over 180 2/3 innings, winning 10 games for an Arizona squad that finished third in the National League West.
By 2006, he became an elite pitcher. He led the league in wins, shutouts and ERA+ and had the top WAR for pitchers. He won the National League Cy Young Award and looked like he was just getting warmed up. Read the rest of this entry →

Dissecting The Royals And Rays Trade: Shields And Davis For Wil Myers + Prospects

James Shields has 2 years left on his contract with the Royals. He is 31-22 with 448 Strikeouts in 477 IP in the last 2 years. While he might not be a Premiere Ace, he is a front end starter that Kansas City has not had for a long ime.

We at the MLB Reports have established that we are far more in favor of acquiring hitters than pitchers in today’s MLB. Why do you ask? It is simple. The amount of pitchers that end up injured for the year is mind boggling. You can check out our Tommy John Surgery Tracker Page here. Point being, is that is risky to trade away top tier offensive prospects for pitching in return. Having said this, I like this trade of James Shields, Wade Davis and a player to be named later, for Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi, Mike Montgomery and Patrick Leonard for both clubs. It addresses immediate concerns with a look to the future. To fully assess how this trade will break down we start with the Royals: Read the rest of this entry →
