MLB Teams Taking A Powder In 2017 So Far
Posted by hunterstokes21

Some MLB Teams have had a tough winter so far, and we take a look at why this is. We understand that not all clubs have to be in win mode, and some maybe rebuilding, however the process and mindset is what we are questioning here. For a team that is not going all in and should be based on their limited window of winning opportunity, we also call them to the carpet. Stop taking a powder in 2017 and give your head a shake!
MLB Teams Taking A Powder In 2017 So Far
There are certain clubs who have done a nice job improving their clubs year over year, some that have done nicely in maintaining, well, and there are teams that are not looking so hot in 2017.
Let me also qualify this in saying that the Toronto Blue Jays are dangerously close to falling into this pegging themselves. You guys can’t seriously think that you can enter into the 2017 campaign with the Outfield trio of Melvin Upton Jr., Kevin Pillar and Ezequiel Carrera can you?
Give Jose Bautista a 1 Year Deal worth $15 MIL – with a 2nd year Team Option of $19.4 MIL – or a Buyout Clause of $2.2 MIL The Player could also opt out if he wants to after 2017. You may risk losing a Draft Pick at all with the way this is going Toronto.
With the 1st ED pick attached to Joey Bats. and the looming future QO’s never receiving as much again, how could a team justify losing that high of Amateur Draft Selection for an aging 36 year old slugger.
Here is the thing though Blue Jays brass: You need him..Both at the turnstiles and in the lineup. He doesn’t cost you anything but money – and the guy still carried out a .815 OPS despite a rough down year.
With a chip on his shoulder, I think he will bounce back big time. You can defensive replace him every night if you wish, or use Kendrys Morales at First, and let Justin Smoak ride pine for some DH AB to open up for Bautista.
Losing Edwin Encarnacion, Bautista and Michael Saunders is not made up by Morales and Steve Pearce fellas! You drew 3.4 Million Fans in 2016. Toronto will keep the faith if you bring back #19 for one more year. Read the rest of this entry →

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 6/19/16
Posted by Dynasty_Digest
P- Jacob deGrom (vs. Atlanta Braves): $11,300. deGrom has had some pretty bad luck recently when it comes to run support, but this hasn’t affected how well he has pitched. In his last five starts, he has four quality starts and he dominated the Pirates’ over his last two starts. In six career starts against the Braves, deGrom owns a 3-2 record with a 1.89 ERA.
P- Mike Fiers (vs. Cincinnati Reds): $6,500. Fiers is coming off one of his best starts of the season, in which he gave up two runs and five hits against the Rays in seven innings of work. He is pitching at home, which is very good. He owns a 3.67 ERA at home, compared to a 6.19 ERA on the road. In 67 career at bats against Fiers, the Reds’ lineup is batting .179, with one home run, seven XBH, 10 RBIs, 14 strikeouts, and a .242 OBP.

MLB Daily Fantasy Picks (DFS) For FanDuel – 5/9/16

In order to accommodate our Coors Field lineup, we are going to forego any expensive pitcher on Monday, and go with flamethrowing Aaron Sanchez of the Jays against Jake Peavy in San Francisco
Peavy has bee the ultimate gong show the last several outings, and despite being back in the comfort of AT & T – it will still be tough to tame the high powered Blue Jays
While I am going with the clubs second tier offensive players you could certainly skip picking the Coors Field game – and implement Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion against Peavy.
I am using the top of the Rockies lineup to bludgeon Rubby De La Rosa. Carlos Gonzalez at $3900 vs a RHP at home might be the value play of the night.
It would be nice if Russell Martin could kickstart his offense this year I keep playing him as a cheap option on fantasy – but he has failed to deliver Like teammate Troy Tulowitzki though, at least he doesn’t cost much money. The latter I refuse to play now until he goes over the Mendoza Line for BA.
Love Aaron Sanchez in a big ballpark with Kevin Pillar running the ball down in the OF. The Giants have a decent lineup of LHB, but Joe Panik has been hurt, and Brandon Crawford not to his 2015 standards yet. Brandon Belt does scare me, but he is a different hitter at home.
Sanchez can strike out players at least – which will be crucial for this play.
I will be checking to see if they do switch EE in at 1B for Smoak, in which case I would switch to underperforming Prince Fielder vs Miguel Gonzalez (for $2700).

Base Running, Not Leadoff Should Be The Blue Jays Focus

For a lot of the winter, there has been a great deal of attention paid to just who will lead off for the Blue Jays in 2016. With the exit of Ben Revere in the trade that brought in Drew Storen, the debate has gone in several different directions.
Some are firmly in the camp that Kevin Pillar be given a chance to put his contact skills to use. Others feel that the club should go with giving their best hitters the most at bats, thus slotting Troy Tulowitzki in the 1st spot.

Toronto Blue Jays Payroll In 2016 + Contracts Going Forward
Posted by Jonathan Hacohen

The Blue Jays are at the unique crossroads where they have grown massively in attendance – but are exponentially growing in cost of payroll each year. Based on some great front office decisions on Bautista, Encarnacion and Donaldson – the club has their best chance to in a championship is right now. Push all of your chips in, sign some more players – and take on salary. You may just lead the American League in attendance if you do (just like in the early 90’s). The Jays have talked about cutting payroll in 2016. That would be a grave mistake. Right now they are at about $140 MIL in total team salary for next season.
Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer) Follow @stokes_hunter21
Follow The MLB Reports On Twitter Follow @mlbreports
The Blue Jays have $94 MIL in guaranteed contracts already in commitments for Troy Tulowitzki, Russell Martin, Jose Bautista, Marco Estrada, R.A. Dickey J.A. Happ and Edwin Encarnacion.
The club also will have about another $35 – $38 MIL in Arbitration dealing with another 10 players.
This would mean the team is hovering around the $130 MIL already before they pull the trigger on any moves this offseason.
We made it abundantly clear in our Toronto Blue Jays State Of The Union that this is no time to slow down in going for a championship.
One of the biggest things we mentioned there was the lack of an ace in the AL East. For Toronto to win the Division they may not need a #1 guy again. They will only need another #1 guy in the postseason. Read the rest of this entry →

Toronto Should Sign A Free Agent Slugger/Leadoff Guy Then Flip Encarnacion: Blue Jays State Of The Union 2016
Posted by Jonathan Hacohen

The Blue Jays ended the longest MLB playoff drought in 2015 – and made it to game 6 of the ALCS. With losing David Price and Mark Buehrle after this year, how should the team work this off year? I say they should treat 2016 as World Series or bust. Sign a bopping Left Handed Bat, or at least a Lef Handed Leadoff Batter, and then trade everyone they possibly can at the Deadline for a run at the World Series. After next season, Edwin Encarnacion and Joey Bats are also Free Agents. More onus to go for it this upcoming year.
Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer) Follow @stokes_hunter21
Follow The MLB Reports On Twitter Follow @mlbreports
The Jays are coming off an awesome year for the franchise. Yet all of this coincided with them losing GM Alex Anthopoulos and may see David Price and Mark Buehrle not return in 2016.
This offense and fielding defense is hands above the rest of the Division right now. With the Yankees holding off father time in 2015, they may not be able to do it in 2016, and the Red Sox not having enough resources to sign a pile of Free Agents in the winter, the only Canadian franchise should be favored heavily to win the AL East in 2016 right now.
For the organization there within lies a dilemma. The team is on the cusp of a championship so how do they add the last pieces? Read the rest of this entry →

Who Owns October and Who Owns the 2015 World Series (#WOO and #WOWS) Tallies Updated For November 1, 2015
Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan
The Royals earned their crown as 3 of their 4 World Series wins were won in the 8th or later.
What a strange ending.
Now comes for the final entry of Who Owns October and Who Owns the World Series.
Each winning team for every post season game gets a pitcher and a hitter who earn a full WOO (Who Owns October.)
And at my discretion, I award a 1/2 WOO’S to a worthy player on the losing team.
But the World Series deserves its own stats. WOWS (Who Owns the World Series.)
At the end of the post season, we will see who had the highest WOO total as a pitcher and a hitter. The WOWS total will be kept separately. Each game now counts towards both tallies.
A complete description of the rules can be found HERE.
From November 1st, World Series Game 4:
Receiving 1 WOO’s and WOWS
Luke Hochevar gave the Royals 2 critical shutout innings in the 10th and the 11th where a single Mets run would have forced a game 6. He allowed no hits and walked just 1 and earned the World Series clinching victory in relief for Kansas City, 7-2.
Eric Hosmer broke the Mets shutout with a double in the 9th and dashed home to score the tying run on a wild play with 2 outs in the 9th.
Receiving 1/2 WOO’s and WOWS
Curtis Granderson led off the game with a homer and later scored on a sacrifice fly. In the end, the Mets would collapse in the 9th and lose in the 12th to the Royals, 7-2.
Matt Harvey took a World Series saving shutout into the 9th inning, striking out 9 along the way. He finished with 8 plus innings, 5 hits, 2 runs and 2 walks but would get a heart breaking no decision as the Royals rallied to beat the Mets in 12 innings, 7-2.

Lucas Duda was the Mets offense, collecting their only 2 hits and driving in their only run as they got crushed by the Royals, 7-1.

Who Owns October In MLB Playoffs 2015? (#WOO) Tallies Updated For October 19, 2015
Posted by Paul Francis Sullivan
Thankfully the Blue Jays have decided to show up for the ALCS. No sweep this year.
Time to figure out who owns October!
Each winning team for every post season game gets a pitcher and a hitter who earn a full WOO (Who Owns October.)
And at my discretion, I award a 1/2 WOO’S to a worthy player on the losing team.
At the end of the post season, we will see who had the highest WOO total as a pitcher and a hitter.
A complete description of the rules can be found HERE.
From October 19th. ALCS Game 3:
Receiving 1 WOO’s
Marcus Stroman did not have his best stuff but battled into the 7th inning, allowing 4 runs and 1 walk and earning a much needed 11-8 win over the Royals in Toronto.
Troy Tulowitzki got a pair of hits including a game busting 3 run homer that helped the Blue Jays top the Royals 11-8.
Receiving 1/2 WOO’s
Alcides Escobar led off the game with a triple and would score. He would finish with 4 hits and 3 runs scored but the Royals would fall short to Toronto, 11-8.

Mike Moustakas tied the game with an RBI single and opened it up with another run scoring hit in the 8th to help the Royals come from behind against Toronto, 6-3.
Daniel Murphy homered to give the Mets an early 1-0 lead and made a diving play to end the 4-2 victory over the Cubs.

Starlin Castro hit a game tying double in the 5th but it would be as close as the Cubs would get as they fell to the Mets, 4-2.

From October 15th. NL Division Series, Game 5:
Receiving 1 WOO’s
Jacob deGrom did not have his best stuff but he gutted his way through 6 innings, striking out 7 and allowing only 2 runs to earn the Mets series clinching 3-2 win over the Dodgers.
Daniel Murphy pulled off the gutsy steal of third that set up the tying run and then homered off of Greinke for the go ahead run as the Mets stunned Los Angeles 3-2 and won the Division Series.
Receiving 1/2 WOO’s
Zack Greinke pitched into the 7th and finished with 9 strikeouts and 1 walk over 6 2/3 innings, allowing just 3 runs to score. He would be saddled with a tough luck 3-2 loss as the Mets eliminated the Dodgers.
Justin Turner capped a brilliant Division Series with 3 more hits, including 2 doubles, and a stolen base to finish with a .526 average. He would be stranded each time he reached base and the Dodgers lost 3-2 to the Mets.

A throw back from the catcher gone wrong, Canadians gone nuts, Rangers infield gone bad and a bat flip heard from Canada started the day. Johnny Cueto adding tens of millions of dollars to his off season value ended the day. The ALCS is set and the state of Texas has a lot of reasons to be sad.

At the end of the post season, we will see who had the highest WOO total as a pitcher and a hitter.
A complete description of the rules can be found HERE.
From October 13th. NL Division Series, Game 4:
Receiving 1 WOO’s
Clayton Kershaw changed the narrative with a dominating 7 inning, 3 hit, 1 walk, 1 run, 8 strikeout performance and earned the season saving 3-1 decision for the Dodgers over the Mets.
Hector Rondon became just the fourth Cubs pitcher in history to clinch a post season series as he threw the final scoreless inning and recording the Division Series ending save over St. Louis, 6-4.
Kyle Schwarber got 2 hits including a towering homer to help the Cubs clinched the Division Series, 6-4 over St. Louis.
Justin Turner smacked a 2 run double that was the difference in the Dodgers 3-1 series tying victory over the Mets.
Receiving 1/2 WOO’s
Bartolo Colon pitched a pair of shutout innings in relief to keep the Dodgers from padding the lead. The Mets bats went silent and they lost 3-1.
Daniel Murphy hit a home run that accounted for all of the Mets scoring in their 3-1 loss to the Dodgers.
Stephen Piscotty reached base twice including a 2 run homer. But in the end it was not enough as the Cardinals fell to the Cubs 6-4.

From October 12th. AL & NL Division Series:
Receiving 1 WOO’s
Jake Arrieta did not have his best stuff. But his 9 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings was enough to earn the 8-6 Cubs victory over St. Louis.
Travis d’Arnaud broke open a close game with a 2 run homer, finishing the game with three hits, three runs scored and three RBI as the Mets demolished the Dodgers 13-7.
Wade Davis threw a 6 out save, squelching any hope for a Houston comeback and sealing the 9-6 victory for the Royals.
R. A. Dickey allowed 5 hits, 1 run and no walks over 4 2/3 innings. He was taken out before he was eligible for the win, but was pitching just fine in Toronto’s 8-4 win against the Rangers.
Matt Harvey may not have looked like an ace, but he pitched well enough to win. He struck out 7 in 5 innings, allowing 3 runs, 2 earned and got the 13-7 decision for the Mets over the Dodgers.
Eric Hosmer went 2 for 5 with a homer and 3 RBI and helped the Royals dizzying comeback against Houston, 9-6.
Kevin Pillar collected 3 hits including a homer, driving in 3 to help the Blue Jays stay alive in the series, 8-4 against Texas.
Jorge Soler reached base 4 times, including a homer, driving in 2 and leading the Cubs in an unexpected slug fest win, 8-6 over St. Louis.

Max Scherzer threw his second no hitter of the season, walking none and striking out 17 Mets along the way for the 2-0 Washington final.
Corey Kluber struck out 9 over 8 shutout innings, allowing 3 hits and 2 walks and earning the 2-0 decision for the Indians over Boston.
Christian Yelich had a terrific double header. In all he went reached base nine times, going 5-5 in one game and 3 for 4 with a walk in the other, combining for 3 runs scored and 2 RBI as the Marlins beat the Phillies twice, 7-6 and 5-2.
Colby Rasmus homered twice and added a single to lead the Astros closer to a playoff spot, 6-2 over the Diamondbacks.
They all owned baseball on October 3, 2015
Earning 1/2 WOBs on losing efforts.
Noah Syndergaard allowed 2 hits and 1 run and 1 walk while striking out 10 Washington batters. But the Mets were no hit, 2-0.
Marco Estrada pitched into the 7th, finishing with 6 2/3 innings, striking out 9 while giving up 3 hits and walking none. He would get a no decision as the Blue Jays lost to Tampa Bay 4-3.
Paul Goldschmidt reached base 3 times and homered in the Diamondbacks 6-2 loss to the Astros.
Josh Hamilton‘s two homers off the Angels (on their dime) was almost the greatest middle finger in recent years. Unfortunately for him, the Angels made a dramatic rally in the 9th inning to put the Division Clinching on hold and beat the Rangers 11-10.
