Another week has passed – and it is time to get serious in our World Series picks.

To start off, I have eliminated 11 teams from the chance to win a World Series.  These clubs include: BOS/CWS/MIN/TEX/HOU/PHI/NYM/COL/SD/ARI/CHC.

It was a banner week of predicting teams coming and going for yours truly…As bad value of the week I had Toronto (went from +1600 to +4500) as my worst pick..

San Francisco was 2 on the bad list (went from +1400 – +1800)

Oakland was 3rd on the bad list (went from +375 – +450)

Detroit was 4th on the bad list (went from +500 – +650)

St. Louis was 5th on the bad list (went from +1100 – +1400)

The record for predicting odds last week was 4 – 3 – 3.

The Rays have kept chipping away at their odds, by having a 4 – 2 week.  At +8000 for the World Series, this is still tremendous value.  I actually like the +1800 for the division even better.

Baltimore is holding onto a firm grasp of the AL East (4 games over TOR – and 5 Games over NYY), so how the hell do the oddsmakers have the Blue Jays favored slightly more than the O’s.

I will take the win, and leave the Birds as a best pick this week. I was amazed to see the Jays maintained a +1400 clip despite having a pitiful week, and see the injuries continue to rise. Read the rest of this entry

In lieu of doing the Power rankings today, in which we just completed our Monthly rankings a few days ago, here are the current odds to win the World Series.

These kind of work as a defacto slotting of positions in their own right.

I had a full .500 of predicting last weeks totals in best bets.  Toronto’s big streak of 9 games were the big culprits of this affair to my demise.  They have jumped all the way to +1600, and are the top favorite out of the AL East.

If you are a New York Yankees fan or Boston Red Sox Nation subscriber, and think your squad could win the Fall Classic each, pounce on this weeks odds.  At +2000 and +2200 respectively, they are the highest they have been all year for the Eastern Seaboard clubs.

Boston has reeled of 6 wins in a row following their 10 game swan dive, and New York is only 2.5 Games Behind Toronto.

Honestly as the teams are constructed right now, I am all in favor of picking the Jays, but there is one problem.  If the ‘Pinstripers’ are in contention a month from now, Brian Cashman will be handed an influx of cash to dole out in forms of trades.

Toronto is over the payroll they want to be at for the campaign, although they might be able to add a Starter as said by the brass, “if the club is playing well.”.

Boston just inked Stephen Drew back, and they have some Benjamin Franklin’s in reserve somewhere if they want to throw some down, just not sure they will do so. Read the rest of this entry

If Chris Davis is at his HR centric best, all of a sudden this team is lethal from Nelson Cruz, to Adam Jones, and hence should I say a healthy Matt Wieters crushing from the DH slot, or potentially this team could ink a Morales, or trade for another guy.  Pitching Staff is holding up, and now it is time for this team to roll.  Having New York, Toronto and Boston so heavily favored over them for this category is a farce.  Take the +3500 value.

I had my worst week for prognosticating the best odds, however I made up for it, with the worst odds of the week.  In all, I was 4 – 4 – 2 for the week.  I still have not had a losing record, and many winning ones.

The Rays and Royals have plummeted in their odds for the World Series.  I am not sure about either one of them getting back into the race, although that Tampa +5000 this week is very tempting.

The Kansas City offense is a joke.  They should sign Kendrys Morales after June, and then turn around and trade Billy Butler.  Morales won’t make much more than “Country Breakfast” and is a more consistent hitter all around.

You could also acquire some more depth somewhere else for Butler’s services.  Heck, Seattle needs a DH right now, and they aren’t even calling Morales for all we know, and are going with Nick Franklin until Corey Hart is back. Read the rest of this entry

For my best bets last week – I was 4 – 0 – 1.  Cleveland has stayed at +8000, TB has risen from +3300 to this week +3000.  The Pirates went from +6600 to +5000 and the Orioles went from +4500 to +4000.  I was also right on the the Royals going from +5000 – +4500.

With the +4500:  This is pretty stupid considering KC is 20 – 19, and would be considered tied for the Wild Card Spot.  Clearly with the White Sox, Twins and Indians, they have one of the better strength of schedules favoring them.

Also, love Yordano Ventura becoming better as the year carries on, and have Danny Duffy pitching frames again as a starter.  The offense is starting to heat up a little bit.  They will be my best bet of this week.

I went 2 – 2 – 1 with my worst odds on the board, as the A’ stayed the same for yet another week.  The Angels proved me wrong by climbing from +1400 – +1200 and SF shot up from +1400 all the way to +1100.

I had the Marlins on the way down, and they plummeted from +6600 last week to +12500 this week,

Toronto also went from +2800 + 3000 In my favor.

30 MLB Team Power Rankings: Week 7 – May 2014

The Mariners are 10 - 4 in their last 14 games - without receiving any outstanding play from one particular player.  They are the biggest jumpers in this weeks rankings, going from #20 - #15.  The club concludes a series vs the Kansas City Royals, before they welcome the Tampa Rays next into Safeco Field.

We are almost at the quarter pole for action in the MLB.

The biggest mover and shakers this week were the Seattle Mariners, followed by Baltimore Orioles. LA Angels and San Francisco Giants.

Plummeting in the other directions were led by the Phils, who we dropped from 17th to 24th.

The Yankees, Nationals, Dodgers and Rangers all lost 4 places in the rankings based on sub-par weeks.

The AL New York franchise is about 1 bad week from free-falling to the AL East.  Right now the team has received buoyancy because of ace Masahiro Tanaka being 5 – 0.

Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran are having a tough time finding their rhythm with the Bronx Bombers.

I believe the Dodgers will rectify their situation shortly and take off.

Washington is barely over .500 even though most of their players are playing to their capabilities.

The Royals offense is destroying their team morale, as is the Mets having a tough time with the Relief Core, and their Pitchers are still battling .000 for the year like you and me.

Oakland is still leading the MLB in wins since the start of the 2012 year.

The Red Sox are one of the most likely teams to climb the standings in the next few weeks.

With the Cards not playing well, keep in mind, 18 of the next 21 games reside in Busch Stadium for them.  It is time to make some headway.

The AL has fashioned a 18 – 8 mark in Interleague this week to apply a 34 – 33 overall lead on the NL now.

The Rockies are blasting every baseball into orbit right now.  These guys are hitting as well at home as the Pre-Humidor ERA. Read the rest of this entry

  Yes the Rays are playing terrible baseball at 15 - 21, but they are only 4 games behind the playoff bar.  They always start off the year slow - and the exponentially become better as the year wears on.  When Alex Cobb comes back - they have the best Starting Rotation in the AL East, and I think they are most capable of making a run at a playoff berth.  At +3300, Tied for 14th longest odd, I am placing them the best value on the board, given their pedigree for strong second half's.

My best value picks last week I was 3 – 2,  1. The Royals dropped from +3500 – +5000, 2. Reds went from +5000 – +4000, TB went from +2500 – +3300,  as the Orioles went from +5000 – 4500, and the Cards went from +1100 – +1000. 

I still believe the Royals will turn around their season – and may beat the AL teams cannibalizing each other for a Wild Card Stretch.  They went 47 – 34 down the pike, and may just be a better 2nd half club.

The Orioles at +700 for the AL East is a better wager than the +4500 right now, as i don’t believe they have the tools to win the World Series, but they could eek out the Division.

The Reds are hanging in despite injury, and I think the Brewers will fall back, so it is just the Cards to contend with in the long run, and Cincy is just 1 Game behind those guys.  +4000 is still a great value.

The Rays are totally struggling as we speak at 15 – 21, however they are just 4 games behind the playoff bar, and should be receiving Alex Cobb back shortly. 

Out of all of the AL East teams, they are probably best suited for a 20 – 5 stretch with their pitching.  They will be the best odd this week.

Worst Odds on the Board I was right in my assessment on 2, broke even on the other 2 – and neglected to think the Jays would move up, but they did from +3000 – +2800.  SF and Oak were the draws both keeping their previous odd.

The #1 worst odd pick of last week was Boston, and they dropped from +1200 +1400.

My 2nd worst odd was Cleveland at +5500 – and they skyrocketed down the road all the way to +8000.

Last Weeks best bet on the board that we slated was the Colorado Rockies at +6600.  With a strong week, and 5 HRs in the last week plus, Troy Tulowitzki has elevated the Rox to near the top of the NL West.

This week, they jumped all the way to +3500, marking the second time in as many weeks, our best bet almost cut their odd in half. We also said the Yankees were a good play at +1600, and they vaulted up to +1200 again,

The Royals have gone 5 – 5 in their last 10 games, and have receded from +3300 – +3500, however this will be one of my top plays this week.  These guys are 14 – 12 now, and haven’t even played to potential.

My #4 and #5 picks for best bets had struggles this week.  Texas went from +1600 – +1800, which isn’t a massive fall, and the Reds went from +4000 – +5000.  Again, I question the logic of placing these guys so far back. Read the rest of this entry

MLB Odds To Win The 2014 Divisions – With Full Breakdowns After 1 Week

The Yankees are leading the AL East, having won 4 of their last 5 games - after dropping 2 straight to begin the year.  As the listed #3 team in the division, their +275 odd is a nice bit of value, and it flies onto the radar of one the best bets of the week.

As the listed #3 team in the division, their +275 odd is a nice bit of value, and it flies onto the radar of one the best bets of the week.  Of course they do have a tough schedule coming up in April – with 7 games versus Boston, 4 versus Tampa, and 3 game sets with the Angels and Mariners will not be a picnic either.  Still the team looks better than everyone thought with their pitching, and they can actually manufacture runs with new found team speed.  My gut would still be with Tampa or Boston to win out the AL East, but the value is just not there this week.

We wake this morning to see the betting world has finally clued in the Tampa Bay Rays are a good team.  What is weird about this is that it comes off the heels of them losing their 2nd straight and falling to 4 – 4.

The Yankees are now favored 3rd in the AL East.  Even with Mark Teixeira going down to injury, I like this club.  For a change, they have finally been seeded 3rd in the Division – yet they are leading the AL Beast after week 1.

Boston showed many weaknesses versus the Milwaukee Brewers.  One of my things I also wrote about in their season preview is that they will miss Jacoby Ellsbury, and that no one in their OF will see 500+ AB.

Also worth mentioning is that the Jays are tied for the 13th best World Series odd at +2500, yet are listed as #4 in the AL East,  Stay away from this team in all directions for these odds.

I still don't get why they are the current AL favorite over Detroit.  Despite that fact, Boston won their opening series - while all of the 4 other teams have tied or losing records through their 1st series.  i don't think a slight drop was warranted - especially when you consider only the Tigers and Mariners have a better record than the Red Sox right now.  They are tied with the Indians, Rangers, Astros and White Sox for their 2 - 1 record.

There were no Shutouts in the 1st games the Dodgers were involved in.

 This club often reminds me of an aging heavyweight fighter.  You may beat on them for a time, but there is always that chance the team will land a haymaker on you.  2007 was one of their days in the sunshine.  2014 may see them at least make the postseason again.  With a 20 - 1 odd for the club, the value is there for a longshot pick.

The season is upon us this weekend for real.

The LA Dodgers have a chance to do some serious damage with the North America Opener versus the San Diego Padres, as part of a 3 game series.

If they win 2 out of 3 in that set, this will go a long way in burying the San Diego team early.

In the NL West, since LA is 2 – 0 already, the Rockies are now paying 20 – 1 odds to win the Division.

While I am not saying this will happen, the value is there.

This is so crazy…it may just work..  Every once in a while, I see an anomaly in the odds of a website.  I will go through this in great detail here.

Odds For Regular Season Wins Over/Unders 2014 MLB Year

Last Week, Hunter Stokes (MLB Reports Chief Writer) picked through http://www.bovada.com – and what value was to be had in their odds sheet for regular year win over/unders.

This time, I am looking at bet365.com for some of the same.

Hunter and I both come from the handicapping landscape, and have done quite well in the last few years. 

While I predicted a Detroit and Cincinnati World Series pre 2012, Hunter picked the Giants and Yankees.  That was a much better year than the 2013 season.

In 2013, I did say it was going to be Los Angeles Dodgers versus the Angels in a freeway Series, and Hunter picked Detroit and Atlanta.  You do okay if you can have a final 4 participant.

This year, it looks like we both have the LA Dodgers to win in the Fall Classic, but I have them beating the Tigers, while Mr. Stokes likes the Rangers to faceoff against them.

Odds To Win Each Division In Major League Baseball 2014

The Rays have one of the 2 best Starting Pitcher staffs in the American league, and have averaged over 90 wins for the last 6 years.  Bringing back Price, and having Myers and Archer for a full year should make the team even better in 2013.  Keep in mind they have also added Heath Bell and Grant Balfour to anchor the Bullpen, an obvious upgrade over the inconsistent Fernando Rodney.  They have been more consistent than the Red Sox and Yankees the last 2 years.  As such should not be the 3rd favorite in the Division,

We have gone through several weeks and months in the off year for gambling odds, and now with the Dodgers and Diamondbacks Opening MLB Series less than 3 weeks away, it is the Division Winners.

Much like my predictions are for the National League and the American League Winners, along with the World Series Winners, I love the Rays, Rangers and Giants for the value.

The worst dollars won for teams being favorites are the Tigers at -270, and Dodgers at -275.  I am picking both of these teams to crush it this season, but I will not be wagering on the high favorites prices.

Like I have said before, the LA Dodgers are a couple of injuries away from opening up the NL West.  Even the Arizona Diamondbacks at +650 are worth a stab. Read the rest of this entry

The Tigers are my pick of the week for value.  They were the AL favorite just two weeks ago outright, before being tied with Boston last week.  This odd is favorable for sure.  The AL Central provides the Tigers with an easier path to the World Series because of 76 games within the Division.  The AL East had 4 teams over 85 wins last year.  Baltimore and New York are better than they were, and Boston plus Tampa should maintain.  The AL East has 5 of the top 13 odds for the World Series (5 of the top 8 clips for the AL.)  The AL West is also going to beat up each other a little.  Take the team that has appeared in 3 straight League Championships, and has the best Pitching Staff in the American League.

Well, it is nice to be vindicated on the market again.  Just like I said when the Mariners roamed up from +4000 to +2800 after the Cano signing.  I told people to pounce on that odd.

Last week, I posted in this column, that your bet of the week for value as the Orioles.

I have also been calling for the Rays to be higher on the oddsmakers list, and while they have passed the Jays finally, how come they are so far behind the Yankees and Red Sox?  Market correction is needed there.

For the record, I called the Yankees a great value at +1500 in December, before they signed Masahiro Tanaka.  If you have listened at home, this has worked out for you.  Don’t bet the, at +1200, tied for the 6th best odd in the AL, there is no value there.  Tampa at +1800 is still a better option. Having them to win the American league previously at +1200 (8th favorite among the clubs) was a steal – if you grabbed it 2 weeks ago. The club jumped to +900 for the League Pennant and +1800 for the World Series.  This just happened overnight as they were also +2000 to win the Fall Classic as of yesterday.  TB as the 7th favorite in the AL is still great value even with the less money to win now – as opposed to just 24 hours ago.  The Yankees are not good value as the 3rd favorite in the AL now.

Just as I predicted would happen, someone hammered the Tampa Bay Rays enough for them to switch spots with the Toronto Blue Jays on the odds list. 

The Rays shot up from +1050 to win the AL, and +2000 to win the World Series, to now +900 to win the AL, and +1800, while the Jays have gone to +1100 and +2000 overall, from +1000 and +1800 in for the AL Pennant and World Series respectively.

Most of the odds favor the American League to win in any Fall Classic Matchup versus the National League still.

The NL features heavy favorites of the both the LA Dodgers, Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals.  These 3 teams are best not to pick them to win the NL as the odds are brutal.

If it is your intention to wager on them, pick them to win the World Series, as their odds exponentially increase. 

If you are picking ATL/CIN/PIT/SF/PHI/ARI/MIL and COL, pick them to win the NL, as they pay less than +100 (-105  to – 130) in the translation between NLCS Winner and World Series Winner. Read the rest of this entry

It has been a tough week for the Seattle Mariners.  1st a freak injury to  Hisashi Iwakuma – has him out 4 – 6 with a bad finger that was caught into a batting cage net.

While Franklin Gutierrez being hurt is not a surprise, it still comes at a bad time.

To make matters worse, Nelson Cruz seems to balking at signing a deal with the PAC NW club.

At this point, the Mariners might want to just think about whether they really want that guy anyway.

As you can see in this articles, I broke it down also for Division Records.  Remember when betting on futures, that the AL usually holds a decisive Interleague record over the National League.  In 2014, I believe the AL will register 32 more wins than the NL.  Many of the top FA sluggers headed to the Junior Circuit.

These are my predictions as of today for 2014.  Also the Odd Over/Under as listed by the Atlantic Casino In Reno and my ultimate pick for the year win totals.

The American League continues to reign supreme every year in Interleague.  Notice I have placed the AL Record at 1231 – 1199, versus the National League’s 1199 – 1231.

The AL has 2 of the 3 best divisions in baseball, and the AL East might feature the best out of the pack.  Even with these odds, we could see 8 out of the 10 teams in those division land records over .500

If I were to rank Divisions, I am going AL East, NL Central, Al West (don’t let the Houston Astros record take down the rest of the fleet), NL West, AL Central and NL East. Read the rest of this entry

I have scoured this list and have come up with some deep recommendations.  If you are picking an AL team to go to the World Series, you are better off just picking the AL odds, and not going for a World Series win.

Virtually every team has better odds in the AL just to win the American League – as opposed to the World Series.  The Tigers are +500 to win the AL, yet are +900 to capture the World Series.

Based on the top three teams of LAD, WSH and STL likely countering the AL, the World Series is more up in the air. 

For the National League teams, it is a much better wager to just pick the World Series outright.  On these numbers, every time you pick favors the World Series odds compared to just the NL win. Read the rest of this entry

Mark my words, with the exception of a crazy bid coming from the Dodgers way out West, no one will outbid the Yankees for this guys services.  Based on his age and wherewithal, the Pinstripers can alter their immediate future by landing the 25 Year Old Japanese Phenom.  If they spend the $125 MIL - $140 MIL for a 6 or 7 year total ($20 MIL post, plus player contract, look for them to blow their $189 MIL budget out of control in 2014, - and opt to reset in 2015 instead.)

Since nothing has changed since last week, I have two bets for you to take – and one for you to avoid.

As I mentioned last Saturday, the Rangers have confirmed on the Shin-Soo Choo signing.  In my expert opinion this should have moved the line on Texas.

Instead, they are still the 3rd favorite to win the World Series coming out of the AL.

This is not right.  Maybe I could see the Tigers still ahead of them based on the Division they are in, but the Red Sox have no business being ahead of them.
