Steven Matz shut out the Braves for 7 2/3 innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 8 as the Mets rolled, 8-0.
Carlos Correa singled, tripled and homered, driving in a pair (and along with his teammate Altuve missed the cycle by a triple) and led the Astros to a 16-4 crushing of the Twins.
Corey Kluber threw a complete game 5 hit shutout, striking out 7 Tigers and earning the 4-0 decision in Cleveland.
They all owned baseball on May 4, 2016.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For FanDuel 5/4/16

There is a sneaky bargain dollar deal on Wednesday night. If you search really good already – you probably know that Justin Smoak is a fantastic value at $2300 against Colby Lewis.
Not only did the big switch hitting 1B club 2 HRs on Tuesday to win me some money, but he has done yard twice vs his opponent at the Rogers Centre – with a 1.438 OPS in 16 AB.
Jose Bautista has also fared well against Lewis, with a pair of HRs against him, with a ridiculous 9 Walks as well. Joey Bats has a .619 OPS versus the man.
To help the stack even further, Michael Saunders has a HR and a .898 OPS in 20 AB.
In order to create the dollars needed to play the best pitcher on the board (Felix Hernandez), I put in Russell Martin at C as the 4th Jays player.
In case you haven’t noticed – Twins OF Danny Santana has been bringing in 8.7 PPG as a $2400 cost to the budget. Give me that production any time. I also added his teammate Brian Dozier to the fold tomorrow.
At 3B – I have enlisted Anthony Rendon for a 2nd straight day, as he hit his 1st HR of the season Tuesday.
Francisco Lindor had 3 hits Tuesday – and despite me wanting to play Troy Tulowitzki, he was was ineligible as a 5th Toronto player is prohibited. Read the rest of this entry
Who Owned Baseball May 3, 2016 (Daily MLB AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2016 #WOB Standings

Justin Smoak hit a game tying homer in the bottom of the 9th and a walk off shot in the bottom of the 10th to give the Blue Jays a stunning 3-1 win over Texas.
Chris Carter homered twice in Milwaukee’s 5-4 victory over the Angels.
Jose Quintana held the Red Sox to one run on a solo homer, 4 hits and no walks over 8 strong innings to get the 4-1 decision for the White Sox.
Matt Wisler threw 8 innings of one hit shutout ball, walking just 2 and earning the 3-0 blanking for Atlanta.
They all owned baseball on May 3, 2016.

P – Steven Matz (vs. Atlanta Braves): $9,200. He is facing the 25th overall offense in baseball on Wednesday. His strikeout rate against a mediocre offense should be a great play. The wind will also be blowing towards home plate around 10 MPH, so this should limit and potential long balls against Matz.
P – Felix Hernandez (vs. Oakland A’s): $10,700. he is facing the 24th overall offense in baseball on Wednesday. In 275 career at bats against King Felix, the A’s are hitting .229 with a .264 OBP and only 5 home runs.
Based on his B v. P, I think King Felix is a great play on Monday.

2nd Lineup (Look to hit on the Astros again tonight @ Minute Maid Park)
Last night was burned by Dallas Keuchel not pulling his weight on the mound. I am laying off Collin McHugh tonight, as I feel there is to be lots of runs scored against the Twins – with Alex Meyer on the bump, and McHugh toting an over 6 ERA.
I also am feeling the Nationals breaking out the lumber versus Chris Young, and in particular Bryce Harper, who has had a slower 7 day stretch after a torrid pace the 1st 3 weeks.
I am still going to use the Buster Posey, Hunter Pence tandem versus Jon Moscot.
In order to field a huge amount of firepower, that comes with a Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, George Springer stack versus Meyer, I used bargain bids of the night in Matt Carpenter ($3900) and Brandon Moss ($2700) against 2nd year man Aaron Nola. Read the rest of this entry

2016 MLB Runs Scoring Survivor: O’s Win AL Race to 11, Giants Finish 3rd In MLB Overall: 27 Teams Left To Go

This should turn out to be quite fun. A lot of gambling establishments have this sort of deal, and we will keep a running total of this on a daily basis (just for fun though), in addition to MLB Shutout Survivor, Who Owned Baseball (Daily MVP of the pitcher/hitter in both the American and National League) and also our Interleague results.
What Runs Survivor is: A MLB team scoring 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 or (10+) in different games throughout the course of the season.
Once a club has one of these run totals once, you cross it off and keep going until they complete the 11 different variations.
A Bold Italic illustrates it has been done for runs by the club.
This years victors were the Cubs – in a record few 15 games for the 11 scenarios. Previous Winners include the SF Giants, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays all over the last 4 years.
Baltimore was the quickest to the American League 11 variations, accomplishing the feat in just 23 games.
The hardest total to pick off is scoring 9 runs. We will keep updating these posts when a new team crosses off their 11th different total until all 30 clubs have done so.
We will also be doing the MLB Shutout Survivor as well. I would peg 2014 and 2015 winners (Toronto) as the last team to be blanked yet again.

Clayton Kershaw threw a complete game 3 hit shutout, striking out 14 Padres along the way in the Dodgers razor thin 1-0 victory.
Nolan Arenado singled, homered, drove in three and showed some solid defense in the Rockies 6-3 victory over the Diamondbacks.
Marcus Stroman pitched 8 innings, allowing 3 hits, 1 run and 9 strikeouts. He would earn the 5-1 decision for the Blue Jays over Tampa Bay.
Brett Lawrie went 3 for 3 with a homer to lead the White Sox past Baltimore, 7-1.
They all owned baseball on May 1, 2016.

Johnny Cueto will return to Cincinnati Monday night to where he had success for the 1st few years of his career.
While I love the play, I hate the price. Too steep to field hitters that I wanted to use, so I am going with Adam Wainwright for his value versus the Phillies at home.
I stacked the Cardinals against Jeremy Hellickson.

Daily Fantasy MLB Picks (DFS) For Draft Kings 5/2/16

Houston starts a huge homestand on Monday versus the Twins and rookie RHP Jose Berrios. I am going with a 4 man offensive stack, and coupling that with Dallas Keuchel throwing at home, where he was 17 – 0 last year in his own park. It is time for the “Stros to play with desperation. They begin play tomorrow at 6 Games already behind the Rangers.

Last week we were keying on the Tigers to have a better luck with their lot of hitters, and while I am still on that bandwagon for week 5 of play, I am going hard on the Astros this next stretch of play.
It is imperative that Houston begins the long journey back to respectability. How better than to start than with the AL worst team in the Minnesota Twins?
I am also high on the San Francisco Giants on Monday night. Buster Posey hit a HR on Sunday, and maybe he will show some power again at the Great American Ball Park.
The Braves play in New York to start off their week, and I am continuing the theme of playing against them every night with the opposing pitcher.
Good thing that Bartolo Colon is only listed at $6700.
I will be aiming heavy opposing the Phillies – with the St. Louis Cardinals in the next couple of days too. Read the rest of this entry
MLB Power Rankings 2016: Week 5 – May

The Bucs have the best Batting Average and OBP in the majors this year, and are waiting for the Starting Pitching to join them. Considering they have talent in the Minor Leagues to address this, and won 98 Games last year, it is not surprising to see them jump 10 spots in the rankings on a great week of play – where so many of their fellow NL clubs (besides the Nats and Cubs struggled so mightily).

Disclaimer: We based these rankings on best strength to win the World Series. Therefore some teams that have an easier division to play in, with the least path of resistance to the postseason overall may be ranked a lot higher than a club who is equally talented, yet may play in a juggernaut of a division.

Gone are the days right now where a Yankees and Red Sox Sunday Night matchup wasn’t important in the pantheon that are the weekly MLB Power Rankings.
Boston is still going to be in the top 10 as the AL East lone representative on the heels of their offensive output.
Every time I look up the Beantown Boys are into the double digits in hits for the game, and David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia are in the thick of it.
While they also didn’t make the biggest movers and shakers either, John Farrell‘s club is looking poised to be cracking the top 5 soon.
The NL West have all teams .500 or worse, and I am shocked at how that has translated for the Dodgers and Giants. Read the rest of this entry

I am still surprised on what the Astros have served up to us this year. They are 7 – 17 and on the verge of being blasted out of their season. It is this reason why I will stack this club against Rich Hill.
1st off…It is hard to sweep clubs, and teams that have the 1st 2 games of a weekend series tend to slack a little in the history of this game.
I also can’t fathom Rich Hill pitching like a CY Young winner all year as well. Give me Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa and Evan Gattis as the Catcher option (he may DH, but is a great chance for the slot to use, and at $2700 he is a bargain.)
For this very theme I will pick Doug Fister as my Starter. He is value priced at $6700, and I can’t see a better park to use the light throwing chucker.
To keep some payroll for another stack with the Detroit Tigers, I have implored Brandon Drury in my lineup for $2700. This continues to be play every day right now, and he has performed well.
Justin Upton tends to bunch his HRs together, so I added him and Miguel Cabrera to the docket on Sunday.
If Miggy doesn’t end up playing, I would also not mind playing Chris Carter – as well (plus could then switch Drury for Nick Castellanos), as I am going to use Ryan Braun in the OF.
Weather plays a big factor, as does Sunday lineups, so watch for all. Read the rest of this entry
The good and the bad of the New York Yankees: Week 4

April did not end in a pretty way for the New York Yankees. The only victory they were able to salvage was when Nathan Eovaldi took a no hitter into the seventh inning. It seems the only way this anemic offense can win is if the starting pitcher doesn’t allow a hit.
The hardest thing I ever had to do as a writer was remove my fandom from my duties of being fair in my analysis. It was one of the reasons my first gig in sports writing — covering the Yankees at YGY — became tiresome, especially when the team went through slumps. It’s one thing to be a homer and root for “your guys” to do well, but it’s delusional to sit their and think that “your guys” are the best at what they do simply because they are in pinstripes.

Who Owned Baseball April 30, 2016 (Daily MLB AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2016 #WOB Standings

Michael Conforto continued his hot streak with 3 hits, including a homer, a 3 RBI to help the Mets past San Francisco, 6-5.
Jackie Bradley Jr.hit a double, walked and tripled twice, driving in 3 and scoring 2 as the Red Sox crushed the Yankees 8-0.
Francisco Liriano pitched into the 7th, finishing with 6 2/3 innings, 5 hits and 1 run and got the 5-1 decision for the Pirates over the Reds.
Wade Miley threw a complete game 5 hit shutout, walking none and striking out 4 Royals to earn the 6-0 victory in Seattle.
They all owned baseball on April 30, 2016.

P – Rich Hill (vs. Houston Astros): $8,900. Rich Hill has been on fire in 2016. In his first 5 starts, he has thrown 26 innings, with a 2.42 ERA, and 37 strikeouts. His strikeout rate in 2016 is what makes him such an attractive choice for daily fantasy.
Well, tomorrow is quite possibly the best match-up for Hill when it comes to potential strikeouts. The Houston Astros rank as the worst team in Major League Baseball in the strikeout category. They have struck out a whopping 233 times in 2016. Needless to say, Hill could put up a lot of points in Draft Kings tomorrow.
P – Danny Salazar (vs. Philadelphia Phillies): $10,800. Salazar has been quite the workhorse for the Cleveland Indians this year. In his first 4 starts, he has thrown 23 innings, with a 2.35 ERA, giving up only 11 hits, and 26 strikeouts.
He has always been known for his impressive strikeout rate, which should be great on Sunday, considering he is facing the Philadelphia Phillies, whom is ranked 21st in that category.
Salazar comes at a steep price, but there are many other elite pitchers throwing on Sunday who are more costly and have tougher match-ups. Keep a close eye on this match-up, as there is some potential issues with the weather forecast.
