Who Owned Baseball June 18, 2017 (Daily #MLB AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2016 #WOB Standings

Nolan Arenado finished the cycle in the most dramatic way, with a come from behind walk off 3 run homer in the bottom of the 9th to give the Rockies a stunning 7-5 victory over San Francisco.
Jimmy Nelson went the distance, giving up 6 hits and 1 run while striking out 10 Padres to earn the 2-1 decision for Milwaukee.
Edwin Encarnacion got 3 hits, including 2 homers, and drove in 5 to help the Indians take sole possession of first place by topping Minnesota, 5-2.
Jacob Faria struck out 9 Tigers in 7 innings, giving up 1 run as the Rays romped, 9-1.

So Rockies fans can finally see one of their OWN players hit for the cycle!
Seems like Coors Field is the place to hit for the cycle. And man, Nolan Arenado found the ideal way to finish it. Needing only a homer to check all the boxes off, he launched his in the bottom of the 9th for 3 runs and his team down.
A walk off, come from behind multi run homer to finish the cycle. That’s not a bad day at the office!

Jose Ramirez went 3 for 5 with 2 homers in the opening game then doubled and singled in the night cap as the Indians swept the double header from Minnesota, 9-3 and 6-2, to leap frog into first place.
Yangervis Solarte reached base 3 times, homered twice including a 2 run shot in the 10th as the Padres won a wild 7-5 game in 11 over the Brewers.
Alex Meyer threw 6 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits and striking out 9 Kansas City batters as the Angels took the 9-0 laugher.
Dinelson Lamet struck out 12 Brewers in 6 innings, walking none. He did not get the decision but the Padres triumphed in extra innings, 7-5.

Minor League Baseball Announces its Top 25 Teams in Licensed Merchandise Sales
ST. PETERSBURG, Florida — Minor League Baseball today announced its list of Top 25 teams in licensed merchandise sales for 2016, with the combined totals of all 160 teams setting a Minor League Baseball record with more than $68.3 million in retail sales. The $68.3 million total marks a 5.06 percent increase over 2015’s total of $65.1 million, which had been the highest total recorded since Minor League Baseball’s licensing program began in 1992. The numbers are based on total licensed merchandise sales from January 1 – December 31, 2016, and include the 160 teams in the domestic-based leagues that charge admission to their games.

A player or team might be better or worse from a fantasy perspective than they are in real life due to match-up, price, park factor, etc. This is important when constructing a roster.
One thing to remember outside of making sure your guy is in the lineup, is to always check the weather. Always. Make this something that is part of your basic research. Baseball games can get postponed! Your players receive no points from postponed games!

Milwaukee Brewers Top 25 Prospects
The Milwaukee Brewers have drastically shifted from a bleak future with an aging roster and little farm depth two years ago to the vibrant, up-and-coming, scrappy squad we see before us. They’re in the playoff hunt a year or two earlier than anyone anticipated, including their young general manager David Stearns.
Stearns has been at the helm of this organization since September of 2015 and was just 28-years old at the time of his hiring. Since, he’s taken this small-market franchise from forgettably adequate (and old) to a pugnacious and fun to watch bunch. He’s made some savvy personnel decisions that have primed this farm system to be 10 solid prospects deep with intriguing young pieces lurking toward the bottom of this tools-laden list.
The pieces of value that he’s inherited, he’s made the most of. The Jonathon Lucroy-Jeremy Jeffress trade harvested a plethora of promising players for a organization that needed some top-tier talent to sit atop a system that was lacking star power potential. This past winter’s deal, moving effective reliever Tyler Thornburg to Boston for young shortstop Mauricio Dubon and serviceable Major League third baseman Travis Shaw, was yet another fantastic, valuable trade that Stearns can notch under his belt.
In Stearns’ first draft, he snagged one of college baseball’s best all-around players, Corey Ray, with the fifth overall pick and selected a first-round talent, Lucas Erceg, in the second round.
A fine draft, some deft trades, and a bit of luck has the Brewers in a nice position for a team that needs to contend utilizing one of the league’s smallest payrolls.

Remembering Lary Sorensen’s Callup to the Majors
Today is a special day in Milwaukee Brewers history for two reasons. On this day in 1977, the Brewers drafted a young kid name Paul Molitor. A 21 year old righty pitcher named Lary Sorensen also made his debut for the Crew that day. Since I think we all know how that thing with Molitor turned out, this week on the blog I’m focusing on Lary Sorensen’s callup to the majors and time in a Brewers uniform.
