Justin Ruggiano singled,doubled and homered, driving in 5 runs in the Cubs 16-9 drubbing of the Red Sox.
Tyson Ross threw a 3 hit shutout with 9 strikeouts and none helping the Padres blank Cincinnati, 3-0.

Welcome to your new World Series Favorite. according to the oddsmakers. I see their rationale. The A’s have the best record in the Majors, and also the biggest lead within their Division. Oh yeah..this club has back to back West Titles, and a deep lineup in a parity league that is the AL. While I don’t endorse them as the favorite for the World Series right now (based on predicting playoffs solely), there is no doubt I ranked them #1 in power rankings

Staked with an initial bankroll of over $1000 thanks to a nice NFL Parlay in the 2013 – 2014 year, I set out to make some bank trying make luck at placing some moolah on the game of baseball.
I head to Vegas frequently enough that I have thrown down almost all of it already, but have a great chance of making my $ back and then some.
Before the year began, I placed a wager for each of the Texas Rangers (Yikes), Tampa Bay Rays (Or should I say Devil Rays?), but they best maneuver before campaign was to slot a $14.44 wager on the Giants at 25/1 odds for the World Series.
That pays about $380.00.
I then followed the Tampa Bays advice ticket Chuck Booth laid out for all of the website. Even though it will break even as a wager, I would do it every time.
The skinny of that was that I bet $120 on the Tampa squad to lose under 88 games, and I used the potential profit to bet on the team to win the AL East, the ALCS and World Series.
The whole caveat was that I was virtually guaranteed to make my money back if Joe Maddon‘s club struggled, but could make substantial amounts of profit if the organization had a long October run. Read the rest of this entry
Current Odds To Win The 2014 MLB World Series + Best Value Bets – Week 12
The Tigers were not always the favorite to win the World Series in 2014. At one point, they were listed at +1100 for the Fall Classic. It has been proven that placing money on the paper champion rarely comes to fruition. Regardless, this organization resonated with gamblers with 3 straight AL Central Titles, and appearing in 3 straight ALCS’s. I am not a proponent of the new odd listed, and would have to advise on staying clear of putting down cabbage on Detroit.

The art of placing a good futures bet in Baseball will always require due diligence on anyone’s part. In my next article today, I will reveal all of the bets I placed from Vegas so far this year.
The method to my madness is figuring out when to wager on a team based on their value.
In my set of picks to start the year, I selected TB, TEX and SF. Mind you the 1st 2 look horrid now, but I managed to secure the Giants at a +2500 World Series odd because the LA Dodgers were so heavily favored.
I also pounced on the Tigers having a bad 1st week, and were at +1100 (highest odd on the board this season), before they then jumped out to 27 – 12 for the year.
Detroit has since regressed to a 7 – 18 clip – corresponding with a late plane trip when they left Boston 4 Sundays ago, owners of the MLB best record.
Again gamblers have all the confidence in the “Motown Boys” because they are the 3 time reigning AL Central Champs, have an abundance of premiere talent, and the easiest path of resistance in their own AL Central Division.
I am elated I had the odd at twice the current value.

Well, another few weeks have gone by, and there has been some separation from all the Divisions and the 2nd place squads, except for the NL East dogfight right now between the Nats and Braves.
9 teams are within the top 2 Wild Card Slots in the AL, with the Angels and Mariners holding onto the 1st and 2nd spots respectively.
Preseason NL favorites Los Angeles joins the reigning NL champs ‘The Cards’ at 0.5 Games behind the playoff bar – constituting either Atlanta or Washington (presently in a dead heat) – and the upstart Marlins.
The Reds, Rockies and Pirates are within striking distance as well, but look for the Dodgers and Cardinals to take off from here, leaving the current Division leaders and those 2 as the 5 playoff teams.
Arizona and Houston have at least jumped into the conversation with recent good stretches of play, after brutal starts.

Billy Beane continues to find gems like Drew Pomeranz, Jesse Chavez – and Kyle Blanks has fitted in well.
The team could still trade for a 2B that can hit, or bring up Billy Burns, flip Jed Lowrie over to 2B.

PED use or not, Stem Cell technology, and who knows what else has aided Colon’s body over the last 3 seasons of success. Yes he was 18 – 6, with a 2.65 ERA – finishing 6th in AL Voting, however the A’s went and paid someone else, and usually they are not wrong on guys. The 40 Year Old from Dominican Republic, is also a gigantic man who decimated his hamstring during a PFP out in 2011 with NYY. You have to think his lucky streak is numbered sooner or later – and especially on the basepaths in the NL hitting a few times a game.

The Cincinnati Reds Payroll In 2014 + Contracts Going Forward

The Reds have all shown up for Spring Training, and the team seems to be in jovial spirits for the most part – except for Brandon Phillips attitude towards the media.
Maybe Follow @datdudebp is upset about the recent news of the Homer Bailey 6 YRs/$105 MIL extension. Perhaps it grates him that Joey Votto starts his 10 YRs/$225 MIL deal in 2014.
Phillips is in the 3rd year of his 6 YRs/$72 MIL contract, he will make $48 MIL between 2014 – 2017, before he hits Free Agency in 2018.
The deal goes $11 MIL, $12 MIL, $13 MIL and $14 MIL for the next four campaigns. Read the rest of this entry
The Homer Bailey Extension Is Good For The Short Term In Cincy: Not Sure About The Long – Term Though

Homer Bailey may be the 3rd Starting Pitcher on the depth chart, but he happened to be the 1st guy up on Free Agency out of Mat Latos (2016 FA) and Johnny Cueto (2016 FA).
For this reason alone, I like the team extending the 27 Year Old to a 6 YR deal worth a minimum of $105 MIL, and with a Mutual Option for $25 MIL for the 2020 campaign – that could make it a 7 YRs/$125 MIL pact.
The deal starts off pretty good for dollar sense in the first two years, with Bailey making $8 MIL in 2014, and $9 MIL in 2015.
From there if I can borrow a line from Anchorman “That escalated quickly”, the next few years go like this, $18 MIL, $19 MIL, $21 MIL and $23 MIL for the years starting in 2016 – and finishing in 2019. Read the rest of this entry
Cincinnati Reds State Of The Union: Is 2014 The Year?
The Cincinnati Reds are coming off of a heartbreaking season, losing in the one game playoff to the Pittsburgh Pirates. They finished third in the National League Central after winning the division in 2012. Manager Dusty Baker had to be fired so a new manager could take this team to the promise land. Cincys will most likely lose Shin-Soo Choo to Free Agency, and put Billy Hamilton in center field next campaign. Is 2014 the year of the Reds?

For the Cincinnati Reds 2013 ended in a disappointment. The Reds won 90 games once again, finishing 3rd in the National League Central, but couldn’t get past the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Wild Card.
Right after the season the Reds manager Dusty Baker was fired. I could write a full post just on Dusty Baker and how many things he did right/wrong but I won’t get into that.
Billy Hamilton steals 4 bases in his 1st four Games
Who Owned Baseball Yesterday (September.2nd) – Updated Yearly ‘WOB’ Standings

Andre Ethier went 3-4 with three runs scored and three batted in. He homered, walked and hit a pair of doubles, leading the first place Dodgers past the Rockies, 10-8.
Erick Aybar hit a 2 run homer that broke open a tight ball game. He would finish the game going 2-4 with a homer, triple and 4 RBI as the Angels blew out the Rays, 11-2.
Mat Latos threw a critical complete game, 4 hit, 2 run victory. He stymied the Cardinals and gave the Reds a 7-2 victory that kept them in the Central race .
Doug Fister came into Fenway Park and shut out the Red Sox over 7 no run, 4 hit innings. The Tigers won the potential ALCS preview by a score of 3-0.
They all owned baseball on September 2, 2013.

Who Owned Baseball Yesterday (August.22nd) – Updated Yearly ‘WOB’ Standings

Chris Herrmann doubled home a run in the first and drove in the winning run in the 8th with another double. He finished 3-5 as the Twins beat the Tigers in Detroit, 7-6.
Jose Tabata went 3-4 with an RBI double, drove in 3 and scored a pair as the Pirates demolished the Giants, 10-5.
Jose Quintana pitched 7 strong innings, letting up only 4 hits, 1 walk and 3 runs, striking out 7. He didn’t get the decision but his strong start set up the White Sox 4-3 12th inning win against the fading Royals.
Mat Latos was wonderful over 8 innings, letting up 1 run and walking none, as the Reds snuck past the Diamondbacks, 2-1.
They all owned baseball on August 22, 2013.

MLB 30 Team Power Rankings: Week 21
42 – 8, 25 – 3, 19 – 1, 10 wins in a row. These are all significant numbers put up with a team with deep pockets, the ability to outdraw everyone for park attendance, and owners willing to do whatever it takes to bring home the 1st World Series Title since 1988. No one can touch these guys right now. Best 3 Starters in the NL and hottest 2 NL Hitters in Puig and Ramirez. Oh yeah, the Bullpen has been lights out for the last 50 contests!

It is time for the MLB Power Rankings. These are based on my thoughts on whether who has the best chance to win the World Series.
A lot of these positions are based on who has the toughest Strength of Schedule left, who their competition is for the Division, and possibly even the League they are in,
The races for the Divisions (AL East, AL West and NL Central are starting to tighten up, while the NL West, AL Central and most notably NL East are looking to be foregone conclusions
The Braves have rattled of a 18 – 3 stretch, and have been ousted by the Dodgers for the #1 spot in the MLB Rankings .
The Rangers are trying to ricochet off of a couple of great deals, in order to flame down the Oakland Athletics.
