We are ramping up our coverage on DFS play at MLB Reports, and will include some strategy articles in the forthcoming days and weeks.  We come from a high level of handicapping backgrounds, and have been given the go ahead from the braintrust at MLB Reports to start sharing some of these with you.

Of course Chuck Booth (MLB Reports Majority Owner) and I spearheaded this movement back a few years ago with just regular baseball futures.  We were not sure if we wanted to go ahead with the MLB DFS Fantasy at all, but were finally convinced for demand by a couple of our BBBA writers (Josh Robbins and Trey Rose).  The need is there and we are looking to deliver.

I have played DFS long enough to be the guy who writes the posts here.  The gambling philosophy championed by Booth in the 90’s is brilliant for any sources of tournaments or gambling period!

It weaves the Martingale Betting System (progressive betting with the double up theory) and it fosters it with several other techniques so you don’t bet against yourself.

Andrew Martin (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – baseballhistorian.blogspot.com)

Lou Gehrig is an iconic figure in baseball history, both for his legendary career with the New York Yankees as a slugging first baseman, and because of his tragic death from an eponymous disease at the age of 37. Despite his exploits on the field, he nearly had another star turn—that of Hollywood actor.

At one point he was actually poised to assume the role of Tarzan in the movies but was ultimately passed over; possibly due to knobby knees.

Unlike a lot of fans I don’t just pick guys because they wear a specific uniform but instead because I want to watch the best of the best play.

With that being said I will warn you that any tie breakers for who I choose will be chosen by uniform. I’m still a fan after all.

6 MLB Teams Who Could Take Advantage Of Stephen Strasburg’s Extension This Winter

Matt Musico (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – chinmusicbaseball.com)

Just a couple weeks ago, Washington Nationals starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg was watching a perfect free-agent storm happen right before his eyes. Not only was he dominating on the mound, but he also would easily be the best available hurler on the open market this winter.

Instead of trying to maximize his earning potential, the Scott Boras client opted for comfort and familiar surroundings. Doing this was obviously much easier since he was signing a seven-year, $175 million deal with two opt-outs, as well.

It’s not every day we see a player with Strasburg’s potential (and a Boras client) take a deal that’s probably below market value. For teams in need of top-tier starting pitchers, it left them with not-so-inspiring options when looking ahead at the remaining hurlers projected to be free agents in a few months.

There are certain MLB teams with depth on the mound that could take advantage of this situation by putting one or more of their young pitchers on the trading block. Here are six organizations with the ability to do so:

MLB Fantasy Daily (DFS) Picks For DraftKings – 5/16/16

    zz draft kings

    Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer/Part Owner)

I am loving the Jays rallying around the Jose Bautista incident on Sunday to absolutely crush Drew Smyly in Tampa Monday Night.  I will use a 4 hitter stack of RHB including Edwin Encarnacion. Jose Bautista, Troy Tulowitzki and Josh Donaldson (who is 7 – 14 – with 3 HRS career vs the Rays Southpaw).

By the way here, the Jays are awesome (GVP’s – Great Value Plays) with EE, Joey Bats and TULO at $3700 each, while the reigning AL MVP is listed low at $4300.  I suppose a lot of the pricing has to do with possible suspensions, however I fully expect these guys to appeal, which would grant them a stay of execution for tonight.

There is a misconception that Smyly is an elite pitcher.  He often yields one homer per start.  In his 29 career Innings worth of work versus Toronto, he has given up 6 HRs.  I am calling for 2 HRs versus Smyly int his contest from these four gentlemen.

I also will use J.A. Happ to slow down the Rays lineup.

Jon Niese is to be used in the 2nd pitcher slot – because quite frankly, the Braves are 9 – 27, on the year, so Poppa Smurf has a chance to victimize the lineup.

By using the Pirates starter tonight, it affords me to use Giancarlo Stanton, Mookie Betts and Dustin Pedroia.  I like the Boston 1 and 2 hitters because they have been swiping bags in addition to helping the Red Sox lineup.

    MAY 15, 2016

Well not much has changed from this week as compared to last week.  Detroit carried its free fall to 4th in the AL Central, the Yankees took 5 of 7 contests – and 7/10 in their homestand to save their season for now.

Miami and Philadelphia continue to stick around in the NL East, and the Giants and Dodgers finally had winning weeks to make the NL West Division Leader respectable.

Nobody looks scarier right now than the Boston Red Sox offense, who led by David Ortiz, Jackie Bradley JR. and Xander Bogaerts, plated 10 runs or more in 5 of the last 6 games, after going their 1st 32 games without doing so.

I am still awaiting for a Jays big winning streak.  Houston has not played winning baseball since the 1st 6 weeks of the 2015 – and are tending to resemble the 2007 Tampa Bay Rays more than anything.

All offense and little pitching and defense.

There is nobody struggling worse than Logan Morrison, Russell Martin, Carlos Gomez and the consortium of LF’s in Anaheim! Recently bouncing out of this list are Jason Heyward and Chase Headley.

We are nearing the quarter pole and rapidly approaching Memorial Day Weekend, so it is not early anymore.

MLB Daily Fantasy Picks (DFS) For FanDuel – 5/15/16

    Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer/Part Owner)

Sunday is always a crapshoot with everything involved, so make sure you check your starting lineups, weather and backup Catcher roles.

The game I am keying on more than others today is the game at Camden Yards.   With contests in Coors Field, Chase Field and Miller Park also featuring on massive hitter friendly venues, I will be playing a roster on all of them.

The Tigers are still criminally underpriced on FanDuel right now, as their losing streak has a ton more to do with their horrific Late Inning Relief of late.

I am waiting for Justin Upton to start cracking the ball, and will play him on a roster for 2 – 3 weeks once he starts rolling.  He is a type of guy who will bash 10 HRs in a month at least once in a baseball year.

In the same game, I am running with Jonathan Schoop, who clubbed 2 jacks Saturday – and could easily go yard again on Sunday.

Adam Jones is also on fire – after early season struggles, and is a nice bargain at $2800. Manny Machado took a goose egg for FPP – and I simply can’t think he will do this two games in a row.

Tentatively, I also have put Nolan Reimold into the lineup, should he not be played, I am going to use Yasiel Puig on a wildcard throw out there at $2400.

I would have loved to have implored the Jays lineup – however they were all way out of whack for the price – so I am only going to use Troy Tulowitzki.

The Tigers are facing Kevin Gausman, yet have several hitters that just lace fastballs.

As for my pitcher – I am going with Masahiro Tanaka.  The White Sox have guys that whiff in their lineup something fierce, and I like Tanaka over Miguel Gonzalez in this matchup.

Jesse Winker’s chance should be coming with the Cincinnati Reds

Wayne Cavadi's avatarWayne Cavadi's Online Portfolio

This may not come as a surprise to many of you, but the Cincinnati Reds are not going to make the playoffs this season. Here’s what may come as a surprise, the Reds farm system is not as bad as it used to be.

Sure, most of the Reds faithful are excited for the depth of pitching prospects in the system with names like Amir Garrett, Cody Reed and Rookie Davis tearing it up, but they do have some offense. In fact, it may be time to hand over left field to their top prospect Jesse Winker.

Winker, of course, was the Reds first round draft pick (supplemental) back in the 2012MLB Draft that they nabbed out of high school. He quickly worked his way up the minor league ladder, showing consistency across the board. He was a steady .280 to .300 hitter capable of 15 to 20…

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings – 5/14/16

    Santana

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

If you have any questions or comments about this article or fantasy baseball, please Tweet me. I post daily DFS lineups for Draft Kings everyday, so please make sure to follow my blog.

Saturday could be a very rough day for pitchers, which is why I’m spending more money on hitters.

Out of the 15 games on the slate, 11 games are being played at a stadium that has at least a 10 MPH wind blowing towards the outfield.

Weather can play a huge role in daily fantasy, which is why the intense winds on Saturday could really shake up some of the potential pitching match-ups.

P – Aaron Nola (vs. Cincinnati Reds): $9,500

P – Ervin Santana (vs. Cleveland Indians): $7,000

Strikeouts Are Sexy And Max Scherzer Knows It

    ALEX BRANDON/AP

    ALEX BRANDON/AP

    Jen Rainwater (Featured BBBA Writer/Owner – bbstmlb.com)

Strikeouts are sexy. Well at least according to the Washington Nationals’ star pitcher Max Scherzer. He would know too. On Wednesday night Scherzer struck out 20 Detroit Tigers during a nine-inning game.

“Tonight, at the end of the night, was a special night,” Scherzer said. “Because, I mean, the strikeouts are sexy. And to be able to punch out 20 — it’s sexy.”

He tied the MLB record for most K’s in a nine-inning game. The only other people to do so are Roger “The Rocket” Clemens, who accomplished the feat twice in 1986 and again in 1996 while playing for the Boston Red Sox and Kerry Wood of the Chicago Cubs, who struck out 20 Houston Astros batters in 1998.

Of course there is everyone’s hero and beloved 6’10” right-hander Randy “The Big Unit” Johnson. On May 8, 2001, while a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks, Johnson struck out 20 Cincinnati Reds batters within nine innings. If you want to get technical about it – two others have done it as well but their records are differently labeled.

Unfortunately for Johnson, the game went into extra innings. Johnson didn’t need more than nine innings to accrue his 20 K’s, but since the went into extra innings the game is not considered an “official” 20-strikeout game by MLB.

Still it is considered by almost everyone else as the same record that Wood, Clemens and Scherzer now hold.

There was one other man that struck out over 20 batters in one game and there is a good chance that you’ve never heard his name before. Tom Cheney struck out 21 batters once on September 12, 1962 while playing for the Washington Senators but that’s a record of it’s own too because it took extra innings for him to accomplish that feat.

The Texas Rangers Or Chicago White Sox Need To Sign Tim Lincecum

    (Lenny Ignelzi/AP)

    (Lenny Ignelzi/AP)

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

Many baseball fans are wondering where Tim Lincecum will sign. He threw a bullpen for upwards of 20 Major League Baseball organizations about a week ago, but he has yet to commit to a team.

Many teams were impressed with his fastball velocity, which sat in the low-90 MPH range, and his sharp breaking ball. It is only a matter of time before he signs with an organization.

The two-time Cy Young Award winner could greatly improve multiple rotations of competing organizations. The two that come to mind are the Chicago White Sox and the Texas Rangers. Both teams are playing exceptional baseball, but the addition of Lincecum could push them over the top.
