RUMORS: Houston Astros To Call Up Top Prospect, Alex Bregman

Following a very impressive appearance in the the MLB Futures Game, Houston Astros’ top prospect, Alex Bregman, could find himself back in a Major League Baseball stadium very soon. There has been rumors and reports that the Astros could call up Bregman as early as this weekend. While nothing has been confirmed, this is very exciting news for baseball fans and fantasy owners.

  1. Kyle Lewis (SEA, 20 Years Old, OF): Kyle Lewis was drafted 11th overall by the Seattle Mariners in the 2016 MLB Draft. Lewis went to a small college named Mercer University, but nothing about Lewis is small. He puts up HUGE numbers at the plate, he is a massive human being, and he is going to be a big-time prospect. He stands 6’4 and weighs about 210 pounds. He currently plays centerfield, but as he fills out, he is expected to play one of the corner spots in the outfield. In his last season at Mercer, Lewis hit .395, with 20 home runs, 72 RBIs, and a .525 OBP. In his short time in the minors, he hasn’t been overmatched at all, which is a great sign. Lewis has immense potential and could be a serious home run threat down the line.

  1. Luis Ortiz (TEX, 20 Years Old, RHP): Oritz has been very impressive when he is on the mound. Unfortunately, Ortiz has been very injury prone in his first few seasons of professional baseball. He was drafted 30th overall by the Rangers in 2014. Since being drafted, he has flown through the minors. At the age of 20, he is already in Double-A. He is 4.3 years younger than the average competition in Double-A, so that is very impressive in itself. In 61.1 innings between High-A and Double-A this season, he owns a 3.23 ERA, 61 hits allowed, 56 strikeouts, and only 13 walks. He has a great feel for all of his pitches, which translates to very few walks. Ortiz has the potential to be a 2/3 starter in the Rangers rotation in the near future.

And I references the Coen Brothers as a way to reconcile the fact that Mike Trout probably won’t win the AL MVP.

[Video] Cubs’ Prospect Makes Catch of the Year, in MLB Futures Game

DailyRoKC04aA01

In Sunday’s MLB All-Star Futures Game Chicago Cubs’ prospect Eloy Jimenez launched himself over the railing and made an unbelievable catch in the MLB All-Star Futures Game.

Playing for the World Team, in the bottom of the 7th inning with 2 outs there was  foul ball that nobody should have caught but Jimenez did just that. Even Matt Vasgersian couldn’t believe the catch. If anyone has played MLB The Show for Playstation the announcing made it sound like we were listening to the in-game broadcast. Couple that with the video game type catch, this was a heck of a showcase we look to continue watching the Cubs in the future.

Madison Bumgarner took a no hitter into the 8th and finished with a 1 hit, 14 strikeout, complete game shutout masterpiece, earning the 4-0 decision over Arizona for the Giants.

David Price threw like an ace, going 8 shutout innings against his former team, the Rays, striking out 10 and allowing 4 hits as the Red Sox won, 4-0.

Christian Yelich went 3 for 5 with an RBI to help the Marlins top Cincinnati 7-3.

Jacoby Ellsbury reached base 3 times, including a homer, driving in 3 and helped the Yankees finish the first half at .500 by taking a wild 11-7 slugfest in Cleveland.

Daily Matchups for 7/9/2016

Pitcher

STUDS

Max Scherzer  Easily the top pitcher on the day. Mets haven’t been hitting well of late. Should get plenty of strikeouts and a shot at the W.

Carlos Martinez Brewers have combined to hit 13-56 of Martinez, and are one of the worst offenses vs. RHP’s this season.

MID RANGE

Danny Salazar Right  now the Yankees offense is a hot mess.  Only down fall here is they don’t strike out much, which limits his upside. More of a GPP play here.

Lance McCullers McCullers has great strikeout numbers but at 4 walks per 9, it runs that pitch count up in a hurry  that being said, a matchup with Oakland could offer some nice fantasy value.

VALUE

Rick Porcello Only there Rays really have good match ups vs. the Boston righty, but the Rays as a whole have been horrible this season vs. righties. Porcello is in play in cash and GPP for  me today.

Yasmani Grandal went 5 for 5 with 3 homers and 6 RBI to lead the Dodgers in a wild 10-6 slugfest against San Diego.

Corey Kluber threw 8 strong innings, allowing 5 hits and 1 run, striking out 8 and walking no Yankee batters as Cleveland took the laugher, 10-2.

Stephen Strasburg struck out 9 Mets and gave up only 2 hits and 1 run as the Nationals won the critical divisional match up, 3-1.

  1. Gary Sanchez (NYY, 23 Years Old, C): Sanchez has been a highly touted prospect since 2011. He has fluctuated in the rankings each year, but he is finally close to the big leagues. In 243 plate appearances this season, he is batting .281, with nine home runs, .321 OBP, .487 slugging percentage, and a .808 OPS in Triple-A. His defense has improved quite a bit to go along with his elite arm, so it looks like he will stick behind the plate. Sanchez is the catcher of the future for the New York Yankees.

  1. Braden Shipley (ARI, 24 Years Old, RHP): Shipley was considered a top 50 prospect following the 2014 season, but he has declined since. In 2016, he has thrown 107.1 innings, with a 3.69 ERA, 117 hits against, 68 strikeouts, and only 18 walks in Triple-A. His walk rate and command have drastically improved, but his lack of strikeouts is a concern. A few years ago, Shipley was viewed as a potential 2/3 starter in a rotation, but it looks like he could be more of a 4/5 starter when he gets his chance.

Daily Matchups for 7/7/2016

Pitcher

STUDS

Drew Pomeranz- Dodgers don’t hit very well vs. lefties. On a small slate, Pomeranz stands out as the top option with a high potential for strikeouts.

Trevor Bauer- Since the start of June he owns a 1.81 ERA and a WHIP under 1.00. He faces a Yankee offense that…..well, is just bad.

MID RANGE

Danny Duffy- Over 10 strikeouts per 9 innings and a WHIP under 1.00. Seattle is just middle of the pack vs. lefties.

Jason Hammel- Current Braves hitters actually have good numbers vs. him, but they are the Braves and haven’t been very good this year. I’d consider him a low owned tournament play.

VALUE

Doug Fister- Oakland bats really don’t scare me here and Fister has quietly been a solid arm this year, with an ERA of 3.66. Won’t strikeout many but could you a W if the Astros can get to Hill.

Daily Matchups for 7/6/2016

Pitcher

STUDS

Johnny Cueto- Averaging 7 innings a start and 7.8 k per 9, and the Rockies fan at a 25% clip vs. right handlers on the road.

Sonny Gray-  With DeGrom facing a Marliins team that has hit him fairly well, Gray facing a weak hitting Twins lineup puts him into consideration as one of the top options today.

MID RANGE

Jeremy Hellickson – Facing a Braves team that’s a combined 16-71 off him.

Tanner Roark –  Brewers fan a ton, especially vs. RHP

VALUE

Shelby Miller – Almost anyone facing the Padres becomes an option. Arizona facing Rea gives him a shot at a win.

Michael Pineda – Been raking up the K’s after a slow start. Could make a case to flip flop Pineda and Hellickson, but Pineda was so bad early I’m considering him a value play. 6 innings with 10 K and a win could easily be reached in this one.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 7/6/16

0496992001467749490_usatodaysportsimages.jpg

P – Michael Pineda (vs. Chicago White Sox): $10,600. Over his last six starts, Pineda has been on fire. In that timespan, he owns a 2.74 ERA and his opponents are only batting .201. He is coming off one of his best starts of the season last time out against the Texas Rangers, in which he struck out 12 batters.

P – Sonny Gray (vs. Minnesota Twins): $5,900. Gray has faired very well against mediocre offensive teams (Rays, Reds, Brewers, Angels), but he has been blown up against elite offensive teams (Pirates, Rangers, Red Sox, Mariners) this season. Luckily, Gray will make the start against a team that has struggled offensively this year on Wednesday. During June, he had a very strong month, posting a 3.23 ERA.

Daily Matchups for 7/5/2016

Pitcher

STUDS

Carrasco, Price, and MadBum…… All with sketchy match ups.  I’m personally fading all three, if I had to choose one, I’d go Carrasco. He’s kept the Tigers in check with exception of Miggy, but the Tigers can blow up at any time. More of a tourney play.

MID RANGE

Masahiro Tanaka– Whitesox hitting a combined .224 vs him and he’s been pretty reliable this year.

AJ Griffin– Current Sox 9-38 off him and he’s limited the HR’s this year. Sox do appear to be heating up, so there’s some risk but he could pay off nicely,

VALUE

Tim Lincecum- Rays have made a lot of below average pitchers look good this year, they K a bunch vs righties and its in the Trop.  Not high upside here, but 6 innings, 2 ER with 5-6 K’s and the W is a reachable line.  And his price could allow you some big bats.

It’s a small(ish) slate and we won’t be playing a ton, but here we go!

Daily Matchups for 6/30/2016

Pitcher

Madison Bumgarner This is a dream matchup for MadBum tonight. He’s facing a lackluster Athletics team which he has been able to hold to a .264 BA (23 for 87) with 21 strike outs to 7 walks. He has given up for HRs but this is being played in Oakland and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets 10 Ks tonight.

John Lackey- Can anyone stop these Cubs? Lackey is facing the Mets who love to strike out lately. He’s held them to a .261 BA (41 for 157) with 29 strike outs, 29 fly outs (spacious Citi Field) and 37 ground outs while only giving up 3 HRs. He’s a middle of the pack priced pitcher with a great matchup who will go overlooked with Bumgarner up as well.

Gio Gonzalez

Carlos Carrasco

Catcher

Wilson Ramos  Love him against a lefty in Finnegan. He’s 1 for 3 with a HR against him.

VIEW THE REST OF THE PICKS

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 6/30/16

P – Zach Davies (vs. Los Angeles Dodgers): $8,000. Davies has been spectacular this month. In five starts in June, he owns a 1.64 ERA, 0.788 WHIP, 36 strikeouts, and six walks in 33 innings pitched. One of those five starts came against the Dodgers, in which he threw seven innings, giving up five hits, one run, and he struck out six. The Dodgers offense has really struggled over the past seven days, which is a good sign for the young right-hander.

P – Carlos Rodon (vs. Minnesota Twins): $8,500. Rodon is coming off a very good start against the Toronto Blue Jays in his last start. Over his last 12 innings pitched, he has struck out 16 batters, which is a great sign for daily fantasy. The Minnesota Twins rank in the bottom of the major leagues against left-handed pitching in 2016, so this should be a great matchup for Rodon. Rodon faced the Twins on April 13th, going six innings, giving up three hits, zero runs, and he struck out six. Rodon can be a very high risk, high reward pitcher, so this could be a risky play.

Who Will Be The Next Superstar Baseball Prospect Called Up?

Following the promotion of Lucas Giolito, MLB’s #1 overall prospect, many people are wondering who and when the next superstar prospect will be called up. There are quite a few people who come to mind when pondering this question. Some of those names include Alex Bregman, Manuel Margot, Alex Reyes, Orlando Arcia, Tyler Glasnow, Aaron Judge, and many more.

It is difficult to predict when a prospect is going to be called up, but it can be even harder to predict if that prospect is going to be a superstar. Every one of those guys listed above have the potential to be something special, but who will make that superstar impact this year? Could it be Alex Bregman taking over third base for the Houston Astros? How about Alex Reyes toeing the rubber in St. Louis? Both of those individuals will be superstars, but they are not who I have in mind.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 6/29/16

P – Max Scherzer (vs. New York Mets): $13,500. Well, you can’t go wrong with this pick. First of all, the Mets offense has been TERRIBLE over the past seven days. They rank 28th in runs, last in slugging, 29th in OBP, and 15th in strikeouts. Second of all, Scherzer has dominated the Mets since joining the Nationals in 2015. In five starts against the Mets, he has a 2.00 ERA. His last start against the Mets, on May 17th, he threw 6.1 innings, giving up two runs, and he struck out 10.

P – Junior Guerra (vs. Los Angeles Dodgers): $7,400. Guerra has been pretty consistent this year. In 10 starts, he owns a 4-1 record, with a 3.67 ERA, 51 hits against, 53 strikeouts, and 19 walks in 61.1 innings pitched. He is facing a Dodgers’ offense that has struggled mightily over the past seven days. During those seven days, the Dodgers are ranked 26th in runs (26), last in OBP (.298), and 24th in slugging (.402).

The Atlanta Braves Need To Trade Julio Teheran, But It Might Not Happen

As it gets closer to the trade deadline, Atlanta Braves pitcher, Julio Teheran, is gaining more and more attention. Through five starts in June, Teheran has been absolutely dominant throwing 37.2 innings, with a 1.91 ERA, 17 hits against, 37 strikeouts, and only four walks. The Braves will bring in quite the haul if they decide to deal the right-hander to a competing team at the trade deadline.

So far in 2016, Teheran owns a 3-7 record, with a 2.46 ERA, 70 hits against, 99 strikeouts, and 24 walks in 106 innings pitched. Pay no attention to the record since he is currently playing for the worst team in baseball, but this might not be for long. Many teams have expressed interest in Teheran, including the Boston Red Sox, Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, and other teams competing for a spot in the playoffs.

Teheran would help a competing team, but he may not be worth the price the Atlanta Braves are asking for. Not only is the price high, but there are some concerning factors that might show that Teheran’s success in 2016 could be a fluke.
