Who Owned Baseball April 25, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Matt Harvey nearly went the distance, pitching 8 2/3 dominant innings, allowing just 5 hits, 2 runs and 2 walks while striking out 7 Yankees and giving the Mets an 8-2 victory.
Angel Pagan collected 4 hits, including a double and a key single in the Giants game winning 11th inning rally as they topped Colorado 5-4.
Wei-Yin Chen pitched 8 innings, allowing just 4 hits and 2 runs and 1 walk. The bullpen would blow his lead but the Orioles would come back to win, 5-4 in 10 against the Red Sox.
Jimmy Paredes hit 2 singles, a double, a homer, driving in 2 and scoring 2, helping set up the Orioles come from behind 10th inning walk off win, 5-4 against Boston.

Who Owned Baseball April 24, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Mark Teixeira homered twice, driving in 4 runs and helped the Yankees stop the Mets winning streak, 6-1 in the Bronx.
Dallas Keuchel gave the Astros 9 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and 2 walks. The Astros bats were silent and the game went into extra innings. The Astros would hold on after a wild 10th and 11th inning game them a 5-4 win in Oakland.
Anthony Rizzo reached base 4 times, doubled, hit a game tying 2 run homer and scored a pair, including the go ahead run in the 11th as the Cubs topped the Reds, 7-3.
Aaron Harang held Atlanta hitless into the 5th and pitched 8 shutout innings, surrendering just 2 hits and 1 walk. He would not get a decision but the Phillies walked off 1-0 winners over the Braves.

Who Owned Baseball April 23, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Daniel Murphy got the Mets on the board early with a 3 run double and added an insurance run with an RBI single in the 7th to extend their winning streak to 10 with a 6-3 final over Atlanta.
David Phelps gave the Marlins a much needed with with 7 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits and 2 walks and got the 9-1 decision in Philadelphia.
Jacoby Ellsbury hustled to force a double, reached base two other times, stole a base and scored both Yankee runs to win a tight 2-1 victory in Detroit.
Masahiro Tanaka gave the Yankees another good outing, pitching into the 7th, keeping the mighty Tiger bats to only 3 hits and 1 run over 6 1/3 innings. He did not get the decision but the Yankees prevailed, 2-1.

Sonny Gray stopped an Angels lineup that the night before bombarded Oakland. He went 7 innings, giving up 2 hits while striking out 7 as the A’s rolled 9-2.
Kolten Wong singled, doubled and homered, driving in 3 and provided some highlight reel defense, helping the Cardinals take a wild 7-5 game in Washington.
Devon Travis hit a 2 run homer to give the Blue Jays the lead for good and added a second hit in a 4-2 win over Baltimore.

Edwin Encarnacion homered twice in the tense 13-6 Blue Jays win over Baltimore.
Jonathon Niese pitched into the 7th, allowing 1 run on a solo homer and just 3 other hits, helping the Mets to their 9th straight win in a 7-1 blow out of the Braves.
Hector Santiago pitched 6 strong innings, allowing 3 hits and striking out 8, earning the 14-1 decision for the Angels over their division rival A’s.

Alfredo Simon pitched into the 8th inning, striking out 7, walking none and allowing a single run, winning a 2-1 pitchers duel over the Yankees in Detroit.

Shane Greene gave the Tigers another solid start, going 7 innings, allowing just 1 run and improving his record to 3-0 in a 9-1 blowout of the White Sox.
Nelson Cruz got three hits, including a pair of homers and a walk off single, driving in 5 runs as the Mariners erased a 10-5 hole and walked off 11-10 winners over Texas.

Games 5 – 11
So I made it through a week in one piece. The last 7 days have tested me as a traveler in ways I thought never possible. Again I remind people, going to a game live is not easy. Going on a massive Parks odyssey is almost a nightmare at tines. But worth the end result.
I left off just finishing a doubleheader in Chicago and Milwaukee, now I had 5 Doubleheaders slated for the next 7 days. While I don’t have to account for every pitch, making 5 innings on the home side it’s still applicable for credit.
I was driving from Milwaukee to Washington on the night of Wednesday April 8th going into the 9th. I chose the same route I used to attend cincy ‘ s openers a few days back. After not having my long term rental car (2015 Buick Verano), for the previous couple of days, it was nice to have AL of my stuff. I made excellent time to Columbus, now that I was a veteran of the area.
As I wheeled past Wheeling, WV. On I – 70, I hit a monsoon. Simply put, I came to find out it was a borderline tornado. Considering I hate driving in these conditions, I was relaxed and hopped up on coffee. I persevered through all night. I never rested, and was sitting pretty upon entering Washington. I missed a turn off and circled back in the wrong direction, ending up in Arlington, VA.

2015
I called Ben Fallon, who was meeting me for the game. I had plenty if time to make 1st pitch. I found a parking spot near the 7-Eleven. . It was more than I wanted to pay..
The coffee I had in my hand quickly flung, when a firetruck blazed down my street. I wore an entire coffee on my lap and all over the seat Good thing I had clothes with me to changed. I relayed to Ben, I would be late to the game. This trip was exhausting. I made it in for the start of the 2ND inning. Originally,
I was going to bus into Philly, and cone back for the rental the next day. But now I just wanted to drive afterwards. It was god catching up with Ben.. We ate both fans of the Nats/Yankees, so we will see each other plenty this year. At first, I almost didn’t recognize him. Ben has lost a lot of weight. The game never went our way from the get go.
Matt Harvey dominated the Nats and Stephen Strasburg. Racing out of the park before it ends still feels foreign, but necessary. I used a combination of I 295, and I – 95 in order to make it to Citizens Bank Park by 720 pm.
Traffic was insane. . When I arrived at the yard it $1 hot dog night. I ate 4 of those, and took two home for later. Tiredness had not stopped me from attending this game.. The Red Sox made easy work of the hapless Phils.
It was time to drive to my brothers house. For several years I have traveled through Sicklerville. NJ. I was there 2006 – 2009, every year, and also in 2012 fir another week. I still got lost. The area had been developed.
Only a mile from his house I was driving in circles. I then blew a tire, barely grazing a foot median that was on the middle if s cul-de-sac. Flat tire. Yeah!. Trent came out to help me drive it off te road. We since have had it replaced. Chalk one up to the evil streets of NJ that seem to rig their sidewalks to puncture tires Costly day. but I can make up savings elsewhere to cover it.
Least it never was on a deserted highway. The next morning I felt better when I saw my nieces and nephew. Already I was plotting some save cash maneuvers to make up for the car. Luckily, I could make do with spare dingy tire. I was using Park and rides the next three days anyway.
No matter how great a traveler you are, venturing into the unknown is still scary. Going to Philly from north New Jersey is not hard. In fact, I found a car wash and laundromat within a half mile from the Park and Ride I was using.
The trip in is 45 MINUTES, to Philly Greyhound station. At a cost of $4.95 with a fare saver package. From there it is a half mile jaunt to the broad street line train to CBP.
Again, I bought a token saver, and will pay $1.80 per trip. So for about $13 RT, I can avoid paying $16 on parking, $5.80 in tolls, and $5 more in gas.. count me on for the savings. I have 35 Games at CBP
So it is worth it.
The Friday game was cold, and the Nationals were in town. It would be wicker for me to see them several times in the next few weeks.
The Phillies won the game. I bought no hot dogs this day. My lunch at Applebee’s was sufficient enough for me to last the whole day
We also frequented a dollar store, where I stocked up on water, snacks and health stuff for a buck a crack.
I was feeling tired at this point, but hoped some time in the same place would end that.
Since I am in the USA for so long, I bought a new android phone. Learning it wasn’t too complicated, but remembering passwords for everything always is.
Another thing that has been hard to find I’d strong Internet and keeping my battery power up, along with blogging and running a website.
I literally only straightened out these issues in NJ a few days ago.
Quite frankly, I am behind in my posting, and upkeep of the website. Add in a guy who has a tough time focusing in on a little phone, and you can imagine it is tough to keep ahead on social media.
There is so much more that I want to do, but cant. I also have found becoming angry at games when I am distracted by my device – rather than watching the game. I must find a balance.
The Saturday weekend date of Apr 11th saw me travel via Greyhound to NY city. I was late for the game in the Bronx.
It took me about 5 minutes to retrain my brain on the ny subway system.
I walked around Yankee Stadium happy though. I was watching my favorite team.
The weather was warm, and it felt like spring. It helps when they are playing the Boston Red Sox.
Unfortunately for me. This contest followed the 19 inning marathon the previous evening. The B squad was playing for New York.
Boston took a 8 – 1 lead, and I was out of there. I had s 500 pm bus from the Port Authority.
I arrived at CBP a new guy on the trip. Maybe it was just letting someone else do the driving all day, but I felt refreshed. I met my brother and nephew at the Park. I had arrived in the 1st inning, following a quick bus ride in, and hitting the Broad Street Line.
There is nothing like passing on the knowledge to the next generation of fans like my 11 nephew Jake.

We stayed for the remainder of the game, and then headed back to Sicklerville, The next day I was going to use a Park and Ride maneuver, take NJ Transit into Philly, and after a qualified game became a reality in Philly, I was taken the Greyhound Bus into New York again.
In a sign of the times, meaning dollars saved are better than 1st pitches, I made a stop in at McDonalds in New York, before entering the yard a couple of batters in. Saving money on food when hungry is paramount.
When I did make it in – the Yankees exploded for 7 runs in the first inning, keyed by a bases clearing double by Alex Rodriguez. I love the 8:05 ESPN Sunday Night Game starts.
My seats for the licensee deal in the Bronx, have me in section 427. There was plenty of room to take bad selfies. The game was a 4 hour marathon that ended after midnight, but I was happy with the Yankees winning 14 – 4. I was about to prepare for my 1st Megabus trip from NY city,

Welcome to the new offseason segment. I will try to do this once again. It has been a slower winter than the previous two years, however it is starting to pick up.
Anybody miss the live action yet? Yes there is still the Japan exhibition series and the Arizona Fall League, but for the people like myself, I live and die for the major league action.
I would much rather watch Major League Baseball any day of the week. It is not that I begrudge anyone for attending Minor League attendance, heck in some campaigns, the Minor Leagues have outdrawn the MLB.

The Dodgers Winning The Title Could Cure Baseball In The Future – Part 1
Magic Johnson said the new ownership group would put their money down on the players to stay or come to the franchise, and man he wasn’t kidding. The Los Angeles Dodgers now own 5 of the top 23 player contracts of ALL – Time in the MLB. With a total team payroll likely to be north of $240 MIL for the next few years, he was right. The team is presently the highest salaried team, and they will pay about $16 MIL in Luxury Tax, based on 30% penalty for $51 over the $189 MIL mark in 2014. Their cash infusion to the NL has spawned a rapid ascent for other teams in the Senior Circuit – who are looking just to keep up, while some franchises have no chance at all with their revenue streams.
A couple of years ago I wrote an article on how the Dodgers were going to change the way the MLB operates. I may be proven right this fall.

I am also an NFL fan, and while I love baseball more than life itself, these type of days are rare indeed, where the sport will carry four separate times, in order for all 4 games to be seen.
Now, good luck on all games to be under 3 hours, but it is possible with some of the ace pitchers throwing.

Odds To Win The 2014 MLB World Series (All 10 Playoff Teams)
The Washington Nationals/Montreal Expos franchise still has never appeared in the World Series. That didn’t stop the oddsmakers from giving them the #1 favorite status heading into the playoffs today. They are the deepest team on both offense and defense, and only lack postseason experience. The Stephen Strasburg ‘decision’ of a few years back, will never be put to rest until this club wins a title. Despite them being favored, I am not sure the ranking is justified, as the Dodgers reside in the same league.

It is time to place your bets on the World Series. The Washington Nationals are your favorites to win the whole thing at +450. The Tigers, Angels and Dodgers are both next at all tied for +500.
To round out the teams in sequence…5 – Baltimore is at +700, 6 – St. Louis at +900, 7 – Oakland at +1100, 8 – San Fran at +1400, and the Royals and the Bucs are the biggest odds on the board at +1600 for 9th.
At first glance I see the pattern. The Nationals are the most deep team across the board, with having all 4 starters as potential aces in Stephen Strasburg, Jordan Zimmermann, Gio Gonzalez and Doug Fister.
Each one of the players in the positional lineup, were over right near of plus.400 for Slugging Percentage, and this doesn’t even include Ryan Zimmerman – who will be an awesome bat off the bench at least to start. Read the rest of this entry
Who Owned Baseball For 2014 – The Final Regular Season Tally

Andrew McCutchen of the Pirates… Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers… Mike Trout of the Angels… Felix Hernandez of the Mariners.
They all owned baseball in 2014.
After a full year of checking each game and determining which player owned the game for that day, there were 4 winners.
McCutchen beat out Atlanta’s Freddie Freeman by a 9 to 7 1/2 final.
Kershaw had the highest overall WOB total, 14 1/2, topping Johnny Cueto‘s 11.
The American League races were razor thin.
Trout beat Oakland’s Josh Donaldson by a final of 9 1/2 to 9. Meanwhile King Felix squeaked past Corey Kluber of the Indians 11 to 10 1/2 (with Chris Sale close by at 9)
If I turned in a ballot with McCutchen winning NL MVP, Kershaw winning NL Cy Young, Trout winning AL MVP and Hernandez winning the AL Cy Young, could anyone protest?
Sure I could make valid arguments for Giancarlo Stanton winning the NL MVP. (His WOB total was a surprisingly low 4.) And of course Kluber and Hernandez is basically a coin toss right now. But the above ballot would certainly be acceptable.
WOB works. Adding the 1/2 WOB dynamic made it more accurate than last year.

Who Owned Baseball Sept 28, 2014 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + FINAL 2014 #WOB Standings

Jordan Zimmermann threw the first no hitter in Washington Nationals history (and the franchise’s first since Dennis Martinez‘s perfect game for the Expos in 1991). He allowed only 1 walk while striking out 10 Miami hitters en route to his 1-0 masterpiece.
Sonny Gray provided relief for 2 months of Oakland frustration with a post season clinching 6 hit complete game shutout of the Rangers, striking out 5 and walking none.
Anthony Rizzo went 3-4 with a homer and 2 RBI, helping the Cubs win against Milwaukee 5-2.
Ian Kinsler homered, hit an RBI single and added another hit to lead the Tigers to the Division Title with a 3-0 victory over Minnesota.

Washington and Baltimore both clinch in an amazing night for the Beltway and both franchises are seeking redemption.
Things get tight in the AL Central, a closer should be put in moth balls and stupidity overshadows what was basically a meaningless Rays and Yankees game.
