The first no hitter of the year!

Josh Beckett tosses a no no against the Phillies and joins the Dodger legends like Valenzuela, Koufax and Bill Singer. The 6-0 blanking of the Phillies gives him his great Dodger highlight (going along with clinching the World Series for the Marlins and being a playoff MVP for the Red Sox.)

Still no San Diego Padres nor Washington Nationals no hitter yet (although the Nationals franchise have no hitters as the Expos and the city of Washington had some with the Senators.)

It is time to update my list!

MLB HRs Of Note Saturday May 24, 2014

George Springer has only clubbed 2 HRs and added 6 RBI through his 1st 19 Games Played, while hovering near ,200 - and Striking out plenty.  The Astros 11th Overall Pick in the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft had hit 37 HRs and added 45 SB in 492 Minor League AB during the 2013 campaign.  If Springer continues this emergence, it would really be the start of the Houston squads rebuild.  The RHB hit jacks in his 1st 2 AB last night at Safeco, both were completely obliterated long into the Seattle night.  this kid has phenomenal power.

Having been in attendance personally to watch George Springer light up Brandon Maurer for HRs in his 1st 2 AB, this guy is starting to be in the zone.

After a slow start, the Astros 24 YR old RF is starting to crush the baseball around the yard, with 6 HRs and 14 RBI in his last 14 Games Played.

Springer only had 2 HRs and 6 knocked in during his 1st 19 contests.

Not only did he have the only Multi HR effort yesterday in the bigs, He added his name to four fresh faces that have HRs in two straight games.

Pablo Sandoval hit a Tater Trot for his last 2 games, and has clubbed 4 HRs in his last 6 Games Played overall.

The rotund Giants 3B has a long way to go in order for his stats to resemble the back of his baseball card, but the San Francisco team had maintained in 1st place while waiting for the Panda’s emergence. Read the rest of this entry

Who Owned Baseball Yesterday (May.24) – Updated MLB Yearly ‘WOB’ Standings

Rougned Odor went 4-5 with 5 RBI including a pair of triples helping the hobbled Rangers blow out the Tigers, 12-2.

R. A. Dickey pitched into the 9th innings, giving the Blue Jays 8 1/3 innings of 5 hit, 1 walk, 2 run ball. He got the victory over Oakland, 5-2.

Ben Revere went 4-4, including a double, drove in a run and scored 3, leading the Phillies to a 5-3 over the Dodgers.

Travis Wood threw 7 1/3 innings of 3 hit ball, walking just 2 batters. He earned the 3-2 decision for the Cubs in San Diego.

They owned baseball on May.24, 2014.

Stanton + Cruz Take Over NL + AL Leads For HRs: 3 Hit Multi HRs FRI – 0 HR Streaks For Sat

It is scary to only think the Giancarlo Stanton is just 25 years of age.  This man is asserting himself as the premiere HR hitter in the National League in 2014 with 14 HRs so far, The Marlins OF has also netted 47 RBI. and 114 Total Bases, both of which are NL leading.  Teams have already intentionally walked him 9 times, which is another league leading category for him.  Miami is 25 - 24 on the season, and they owe Stanton a huge amount of thanks for why.

Giancarlo Stanton (don’t call him Mike, even though everyone wants to be like him) had his 3rd Multi HR game of the year, and took over sole possession of 1st place in the NL HR Race.

Stanton’s teammate Garrett Jones also did yard two times (7th teammates of 2014 to accomplish the feat).

Even though these Marlins did this, Mark Reynolds destroyed 2 baseballs over the fence himself, to help the Brewers overcome the 4 HR barrage by the Fish.

Who Owned Baseball Yesterday (May.23) – Updated MLB Yearly ‘WOB’ Standings

Chris Davis got on base 3 times, homered and drove in 4 runs, powering the Orioles to an 8-4 victory over Cleveland.

Felix Hernandez dominated the Astros with 8 strong innings, 5 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 9 strikeouts as the Mariners rolled, 6-1.

Mark Reynolds homered twice and helped Milwaukee win a slugfest against Miami, 9-5.

Gavin Floyd pitched into the 7th, letting up just 2 runs in 6 2/3 innings, striking out 7 and walking none. He didn’t get the decision but helped set up Atlanta’s 3-2 topping of Colorado.

They owned baseball on May.23, 2014.

These are not the best days for the Red Sox. Seven game losing streaks aren’t exactly becoming for a World Series defense.

Rangers Losing Fielder For The Year May Be A Fatal Short Term Blow: But Maybe Not For The Long Term

Losing Prince Fielder for the year is somewhat catastrophic to the team, but it doesn't have to be a death sentence to the 2014 year.  The big 1B was not part of the 15 - 9 start the team put forth, before a rough 8 - 15 slide since then.  Pitching will save the day, and the organization may look to add some players that don't require a ton of assets to ascertain.  If the club has bad next month,, it could also be time to sell some players off and retool for 2015.

The Rangers have quite likely lost Prince Fielder for the year – with pending neck surgery.  He joins a long list of players currently on the ‘MASH’ unit.

Derek Holland, Matt Harrison, Leonys Martin, Donnie Murphy, Joseph Ortiz, Martin Perez, Joe Saunders, Tanner Scheppers, Geovany Soto, Dan Robertson Jurickson Profar, Engel Beltre, Kevin Kouzmanoff, Josh Wilson, James Adduci, Pedro Figueroa are all on the sick bay right now.

About half of them are not coming back this year potentially.

Adrian Beltre and Yu Darvish have also spent time on the DL this campaign.

As we approach the trade deadline many names are becoming apparent for their availability as their teams have fallen out of contention or sense payroll issues. Injuries trade potential needs per destination and combine that with salary concerns and their upcoming record there is a wide amount of questionability with who will be traded.

The way this year is shaping out there seems to be few candidates and very few bats especially. There is a tremendous amount of parity in the league right now so it definitely looks like a sellers market.

Who Owned Baseball Yesterday (May.22) – Updated MLB Yearly ‘WOB’ Standings

Chris Sale came off the DL and retired the first 17 Yankees he faced. A base hit prevented him from pushing the no hitter issue and finished with 6 innings of 1 hit shutout ball with 10 strikeouts and no walks. He got the 3-2 win for the White Sox.

Jose Bautista went 3-5 with a homer leading the Blue Jays to a 7-2 victory and a sweep of the slumping defending champion Red Sox.

Henderson Alvarez gave the Marlins 7 innings of 4 hit shutout ball, walking just 2 Phillies in the process. He did not get the decision but the Marlins walked off a 4-3 winner.

Shane Robinson went 3-4, hit a game tying double and scored an insurance run in the Cardinals come from behind 4-2 win over Arizona.

They owned baseball on May.22, 2014.

Run Survivor 2014 MLB: 18 Teams Complete With O’s + Bucs + Brew Crew Finishing Up – 12 Teams Left

This should turn out to be quite fun.  A lot of gambling establishments have this sort of deal, and it will be fun to see the results.

What Runs Survivor is, a MLB team scoring 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, 10 or (10+) in different games throughout the course of the season.

Once a club has one of these run totals once, you cross it off and keep going until they complete the 11 different variations.  We are going to keep tracking this category – until all 30 MLB clubs are finished this season!

The Orioles and Pirates both won the last two nights while scoring 9 runs as the victor in the Interleague Series between them.  Baltimore won 9 – 2 on Tuesday, and the Bucs won 9 – 8 over the O’s last night.

They became the 16th and 17th teams to complete the 11 totals.

Scoring 9 runs is the hardest total to come across for the clubs.

Milwaukee finally accomplished the 9 run game Friday night, to join the party as the 18 team to complete.

In a surprise, the Dodgers still haven’t scored 10 runs in a game yet.  They would still be the favorite to be the next club to finish this task. Read the rest of this entry

Kyle Lohse went 8 strong, letting up just 1 run, striking out 8 and walking no Braves as the Brewers took the showdown between first place clubs, 6-1.

Edwin Encarnacion had another 2 homer day, driving in 3 and pushing the Blue Jays past the Red Sox, 6-4, and into a first place tie.

Marcell Ozuna hit a grand slam and drove in a fifth run, getting on base 3 times in the Marlins 14-5 drubbing of the Phillies.

If Chris Davis is at his HR centric best, all of a sudden this team is lethal from Nelson Cruz, to Adam Jones, and hence should I say a healthy Matt Wieters crushing from the DH slot, or potentially this team could ink a Morales, or trade for another guy.  Pitching Staff is holding up, and now it is time for this team to roll.  Having New York, Toronto and Boston so heavily favored over them for this category is a farce.  Take the +3500 value.

I had my worst week for prognosticating the best odds, however I made up for it, with the worst odds of the week.  In all, I was 4 – 4 – 2 for the week.  I still have not had a losing record, and many winning ones.

The Rays and Royals have plummeted in their odds for the World Series.  I am not sure about either one of them getting back into the race, although that Tampa +5000 this week is very tempting.

The Kansas City offense is a joke.  They should sign Kendrys Morales after June, and then turn around and trade Billy Butler.  Morales won’t make much more than “Country Breakfast” and is a more consistent hitter all around.

You could also acquire some more depth somewhere else for Butler’s services.  Heck, Seattle needs a DH right now, and they aren’t even calling Morales for all we know, and are going with Nick Franklin until Corey Hart is back. Read the rest of this entry

The Blue Jays 1B hit a HR for the 2nd straight game Tues night - after featuring his 3rd Multi HR contest since May 8th.  EE also had a 3 game HR streak from May 6 - May 8.

Edwin Encarnacion had a Multi HR Game for the 3rd time since May 8th last night.  This guy is sickly hot at the plate right now.

Heading into April with just 1 big fly, he now has 9 HRs in the month of May, and is a centrifugal force behind the recent hot play by the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Canadian franchise’s 1B now is tied with 4 other guys for 4th place (including teammate Jose Bautista)  in the AL – with 11 HRs.

Interleague Game Scores So Far In 2014: AL Leads NL 43 – 38 After A 27 – 11 Run

The AL is asserting itself in the annual Interleague Series once again.

Only 2 weeks, the NL held a 26 – 17 Overall Series advantage, but then the Yankees, Angels and A’s have led the charge in reeling off 27 of the next 38 contests.

This weeks series also feature the Yanks at Wrigley Field, the Twins at Petco Park, Pirates @ Camden Yards – before the Twins wraps up the Interleague 7 days stretch at AT & T Park in SF.

I will say the Yankees and O’s will go 4 – 2 versus the National League, and the Twins will go 2 – 4 versus the Padres and Giants.

The AL’s current record is a .531 Win percentage, and the MLB Reports is on record as predicting the AL will in 161 of the 290 games for a win PCTG of .555

These wins will affect the League records at the end of the year for teams above and  below .500 if the gap is significant. 

The Angels have put forth the best record in Interleague thus far – posting a 6 – 2 record, with Milwaukee faring better with WIN PCTG points ahead, but 1 win behind LAA at 5 – 1,  while the Dodgers/Royals are 4 – 1, and Giants/Marlins/A’s are all 3 – 0.

Baltimore is 2 – 0

The Phillies are mightily struggling against the Junior Circuit, with an IL worst clip of  1 – 8 in 2014 so far.  The Cubs aren’t much better for the campaign at 1 – 5.  Cincy is 1 – 4 – and the Twins hope to add a victory to their 0 – 3 IL start with 6 contests this week.

Of note, the AL East and NL  are  the best divisions in AL/NL matchups, both recording identical 18 – 11 Won Loss marks so far. 

Atlanta and St. Louis have yet to play the American League, and the Bronx Bombers are the clubhouse leaders in games with 12 (7 – 5), and have a series at Wrigley upcoming starting today. Read the rest of this entry

Dallas Keuchel threw a shutout into the 9th before needing some help to finish the game. He ended up with 8 2/3 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs, 8 strikeouts and walked just one Angel, earning the 5-2 victory for the Astros.

Jason Heyward got on base 4 times, stole a pair and scored in two of the Braves rallies as they topped the Brewers 9-3.

Mike Leake pitched into the 7th inning, finishing with 6 2/3 innings of 1 run ball. He did not get the decision but helped set up the Reds’ extra inning 4-3 win over Washington.

Who Owned Baseball Yesterday (May.18) – Updated MLB Yearly ‘WOB’ Standings

Ryan Vogelsong threw 7 shutout innings, letting up just 5 hits and 1 walk as the Giants beat the Marlins, 4-1.

Felix Hernandez gave the Mariners 8 innings, giving up 2 runs and earning the 6-2 win in Minnesota.

Freddie Freeman went 3-3 with a homer and a 9th inning lead off single that sparked the come from behind rally for the Braves who topped the Cardinals 6-5.

Alex Gordon went 4-4 with a pair of homers and 6 runs batted in, powering the Royals past the Orioles, 8-6.

They owned baseball on May.18, 2014.

2014 MLB Shutout Survivor Results: Angels Are The Winner This Year

The Angels are holding their own in the AL West, and have watched as other teams in the Division have suffered massive pitching injuries.  This team should be in the hunt all year for the playoffs.  Mike Scioscia can also be thankful his team is playing better too.  In 2012 and 2013, the club struggled mightily in the 1st 6 - 7 weeks into the year. It cost them a playoff spot in 2012, even with a late charge, and last year was a losing season, which is a rarity in the Scioscia era.

The Angels have been flashing lumber all year.  Despite me railing on them last week, it is also a respect factor for them having not being Shutout at that point.

On Friday night, the Rays finally bageled the Halo’s, with a 3 – 0 loss to Chris Archer and the Bullpen of Tampa Bay.  LA returned a blanking to the Rays on Saturday.

The team only managed 4 hits in the game.  Nevertheless, the lasted more 5 more games this year than the Colorado Rockies.

Los Angeles is in 2nd place in the AL West, and are looking to get Josh Hamilton back shortly.

I am still not relinquishing my request not to have Raul Ibanez hit 4th in the lineup.  I wouldn’t play him as a starter to begin with, and leave the guy to Pinch Hit duty late in games. Read the rest of this entry

This should turn out to be quite fun.  A lot of gambling establishments have this sort of deal, and it will be fun to see the results.

What Runs Survivor is, a MLB team scoring 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, 10 or (10+) in different games throughout the course of the season.

Once a club has one of these run totals once, you cross it off and keep going until they complete the 11 different variations.  We are going to keep tracking this category – until all 30 MLB clubs are finished this season!

The Padres ran the gauntlet over the last few games, scoring 8, 9, 10 all to complete their mission of 11 totals.  It was a surprise these guys finished in the top half of the league considering they only had 7/11 10 days ago – holding down the 30th spot in the rankings. 2014’s Top Home Run Hitters (MLB): HR Streaks (3 Active) (Puig, Dozier, Crawford) + Goldy’s Big Night)

Paul Goldschmidt was the best hitter in the line up for Arizona. He carried the offense for the whole season and also played stellar defense at first base for the team. There were numerous occasions during the season where Arizona needed a clutch hit and Goldschmidt came through when it mattered most. He had a .302/.401/.952 triple-slash with 36 HRs and 125 RBIs and this also included him having 332 Total Bases. He also led the National League in Extra-Base hits with 75 and was third in runs scored at 103. He gave opposing pitchers nightmares when runners were in scoring position, where he had a .338 average with 12 HRs 84 RBIs. He proved to be a very good clutch hitter where he hit 13 HRs from the seventh inning on.  In 2014, he has continued his assault on NL pitching, despite the club not faring as well.  Heading into Sunday, he has a slash line of .324/.375/.571 - and leads the NL in GP (45) PA (202) AB (182) H (59) 2B (18) XBH (27) and TB (104) and is tied for 4th in HRs with 9.

Paul Goldschmidt absolutely obliterated Dodgers Pitching on Saturday night, touching them up for 2 HRs, 2 – 2B, 6 RBI 5 Runs, Added 12 Total Bases, and even walked once for good measure.

Goldschmidt also was the only MLB’er to smack 2 big flies yesterday.  Furthermore he entered a logjam of players that are now tied for 4th place in the NL with Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gomez, Brandon Belt, Justin Upton Adrian Gonzalez and Yasiel Puig.

Speaking of Puig, he hit a HR for a 2nd straight game, and his 4th smash over the fence of the week.  He finds himself back in the top 5 in several offensive categories.

Troy Tulowitzki enjoyed home cooking again, with his 3 – 4 night, with his 12th HR to stay tied with other NL Leader Giancarlo Stanton.

Both Jose Bautista and Brian Dozier did yard work yesterday, to draw themselves in a tie for 3rd place each with Nelson Cruz of the Baltimore Orioles.

Current HR streaks that ended yesterday were Derek Dietrich at 2, and Josh Donaldson at 3 games straight, although the A’s 3B hit a Triple and added 3 RBI in the win versus the Indians in Cleveland Saturday. Read the rest of this entry
