SF/MIA Both Zeroed Last Night As They Inch Closer To MLB Run Scoring Survivor Leaderboard: 12 Teams Remain In 2016 MLB Shutout Survivor 2016

The Marlins held steady with the Nats for 6 innings until it all unfolded quickly in the top of the 7th - where the Nats cracked 4 HRs en route to a 7 - 0 shutout. Miami may have been eliminated from MLB Shutout Survivor, but it was their 9th different run variation in 12 games. The Cubs have 10 different totals in 14 games to lead that contest.

Chuck Booth (Owner/Lead  Analyst)

All of a sudden the Giants are below .500 ( at 7 – 8), and were zeroed out by the Diamondbacks on Tuesday  night.  San Francisco just couldn’t solve Robbie Ray.  They were not the only ones to have no runs in a game last night.

The Miami Marlins were tied with Washington at 0 until the 7th inning – when the Nats exploded for four HRs in one frame, including 3 solo jacks and a Bryce Harper Grand Slam.

By the way….for those counting at home, the reigning NL MVP now has 20 RBI and 7 HRs on the year.  This guy is amazing.

Stephen Strasburg helped hold the Fish scoreless, and we are now down to just 12 clubs left.

There was almost a 3rd squad to join the list yesterday, but the ‘Phightin Phillies’ ruined the Mets Shutout bid, by plating a runner in the bottom of the 8th at Citizens Bank Park.  They were still clobbered 11 – 1, and yielded 6 big flies to New York.

For MLB Runs Scoring Survivor, there is team that is within earshot of the Cubs – with Miami being blanked yesterday.

After just 12 games, they now have 9 contests where they have scored runs that are not the same as any other.

Jeffrey Loria’s club needs games of 8 and 9 guys passing home plate exactly to complete the journey.  These are the toughest marks.

The D’Backs have pulled out 9/11 variations thanks to a 9 – 7 11 inning tilt on Monday evening. In fact, the Giants joined them last night at 9/11 run scoring totals and have also played 15 games.

Tampa Bay, Toronto and San Diego all placed victories in action last night – but all failed to tally a new run total, and are all presently at just 5 different variations.

Drew Smyly allowed 1 hit over 8 innings, striking out 11 Red Sox in the process. He did not get the decision but he set up the Rays 3-0 extra inning win.

Jed Lowrie hit three singles and a double, tied the game with an RBI hit and scored the go ahead run in the 11th for the A’s come from behind 3-2 victory.

Stephen Strasburg struck out 10 Marlins over 8 innings of three hit shutout ball, earning the 7-0 decision for the Nationals.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For Draft Kings – 4/20/16

zz draft kings

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

P – Ubaldo Jimenez (vs. Toronto Blue Jays): $7,000. It’s typically not a good idea to start a pitcher against the powerful Blue Jays offense, but Jimenez could be an exception. In 206 career at bats against Jimenez, the Blue Jays are only hitting .204 with 61 strikeouts. With this large sample size, I feel confident enough to say that Jimenez will contain the Jays offense. At this price point, he provides a lot of flexibility with the rest of the lineup.

P – Danny Salazar (vs. Seattle Mariners): $9,500. Danny Salazar is a strikeout machine. Throughout his career, he is averaging 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings. This year is no different. In his first two starts, he has thrown 11 innings with 16 strikeouts. He also has a 2-0 record with a 0.79 ERA. He will be facing the Seattle Mariners, whose offense is pretty average. It shouldn’t be a tough match-up for Salazar on Wednesday. In 35 career at bats against Salazar, the Mariners are hitting .114 with 13 strikeouts.

Cards + White Sox Eliminated From MLB Shutout Survivor 2016: ALL AL Central Teams Are Also Gone

The Cardinals were shutout 5 - 0 by NL Division rival Chicago last night (in the 1st game of a 19 game head versus head this season). At least the RedBirds prevented them from scoring 3 runs, and completing the MLB Runs Scoring Survivor last night. The Cards could still finish in the top 15 depending on some outcomes coming up.

The teams are putting up zeroes faster than Vegas casino’s are padding their bottom lines now.

St. Louis couldn’t handle ex teammate John Lackey. and were effectively knocked out of the contest via a 5 – 0 loss.

The Angels wiped out the White Sox for a 7 – 0 victory on Monday night.  In doing so, every club in the AL Central is now gone from MLB Shutout Survivor 2016.

Meanwhile the Padres are the squad that has been vanquished in the NL West by a Shutout so far.  Yes, and they are making up for the other clubs by taking the egg-shaped number 5 separate times already.

There are only 5 teams left in the American League, and now there are 9 clubs still alive in the NL.

I am contemplating going all the way back to 1918 – in order to figure out who won this competition every year.  That would be a lot easier than running through game scores for all of the seasons of MLB Runs Scoring Survivor.

With only 8 teams in play Monday night – there wasn’t much action in the MLB Runs Scoring Survivor.  The only note was that the Cubs didn’t capitalize on their fist chance to complete the journey.  They have another chance tonight against St.  Louis (the magic number of runs is 3). P – Marcus Stroman (vs. Baltimore Orioles): $7,700. I wouldn’t typically suggest starting a pitcher against the Orioles offense, but I think Stroman can handle them.

The pitching match-ups are brutal on Tuesday, so Stroman could be a steal at such a low price point. I’m taking a huge risk here, but I’m hoping the lower price point on Stroman will allow me to afford some elite bats to make up for the difference.

P – Ervin Santana (vs. Milwaukee Brewers): $8,000. Santana doesn’t have much history against the Brewers, but can they really be that difficult to get out? They are currently the 26th best offense in baseball and Santana is a crafty veteran.

I’m strictly playing a match-up here and hoping Santana can take care of a less than mediocre offense.

Strong Player Starts (And Not) From Around The League: National League East

Bryce Harper emerged as the premiere player in the National League during the 2015 season. At Age 22, he 3 Slashed .330/.460/.649 with 42 HRs. 38 - 2B. 118 Runs Scored and 124 Walks. His plate discipline is incredible, and he pulled off these numbers despite the rest of the club battling injuries and lackluster play. If they can all up their game, Harper's talent will be elevated even higher. Harper won his 1st MVP Award in 2015.

Now that we’re a couple weeks in to the season, besides the amazing start by rookie Trevor Story, let’s take a look at some other players from the NL East that are hot starts and some that aren’t to this point.

Atlanta Braves

Hot

Nick Markakis, OF – Leading the team in hitting (.333), RBI (12), Runs (7), and OPS (.956)

Not

Freddie Freeman, 1B – Hitting just .167, with 6 hits in 36 at bats, 1 homer, 4 RBI, and 11 K’s

Julio Teheran, SP – The teams “ace” is 0-2 with a 6.35 ERA in 3 starts, giving up 4 homers, walking 8, and with hitters batting .250 again.

Tigers/Indians + Cubs Eliminated From MLB Shutout Survivor 2016: But Cubs Have 10/11 Variations Complete In MLB Runs Scoring Survivor

The Cubs may have been eliminated from MLB Shutout Survivor yesterday. however they have run through and incredible 10 of the 11 different variation ( 0 - 10 runs scored) though just 12 games.. They just need to score 3 runs in a game to complete the category. It could sow it up as early as tonight when they face the St. Louis Cardinals in a NL Central showdown.

So I said last at the end of the last week that the Cubs were poised to win the MLB Runs Scoring Survivor competition, and now they are just 1 run variation short (they need 3 runs in a game).

They could win the category tonight when they renew their NL Central rivalry with the St. Louis Cardinals.

This is all possible because they were blanked 2 – 0 by Tyler Chatwood at Wrigley yesterday, coupled with 2 Nolan Arenado Homers.

Cleveland was eliminated by a 6 – 0 shutout on Sunday as well.  The New York Mets took 2 of the 3 games in the Interleague series.  Since the Tribe has played so few games, they were assigned the 18th place finish already.

Finally, the Tigers were bageled 1 – 0 by Dallas Keuchel and the Houston Astros.  Detroit is also tied for last place in the MLB Runs Scoring Survivor – with owning 5 different results with the Padres, Rays and Jays.

Quite surprising with their potent offense, that Toronto has not tallied 8 runs in a game yet, it is believable they have not scored zero or runs though.  Read the rest of this entry

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For Draft Kings – 4/18/16

Trey Rose (Featured BBBA Fantasy Baseball Writer/Owner – dynastydigest.sportsblog.com)

Follow The MLB Reports On Twitter

P – Noah Syndergaard (vs. Philadelphia Phillies): $12,100. Syndergaard is a must start on todays lineups. He is facing a very soft offense, who strikes out 27% of the time.

He is striking out 14.5 batters per 9 innings, so clearly this matchup could be an elite scoring performance from the man known as Thor.

“Thor” is averaging 33 points per game on Draft Kings this year. He comes at a steep price, but he is clearly worth the money. I was between Syndergaard and Jose Fernandez, but Syndergaard had a much better match-up.

P- Hector Santiago (vs. Chicago White Sox): $7,400. Santiago isn’t my favorite pitcher when it comes to daily fantasy, but he is the best mid-tier pitcher available on Monday.

He will be facing the Chicago White Sox, in which he has had a good amount of success against them.

In 68 career at bats against Santiago, the White Sox are hitting .176 with 25 strikeouts. That is a 37% strikeout rate, which means his strikeout potential on Monday could make him a very good option.

Disclaimer:  We based these rankings on best strength to win the World Series.  Therefore some teams that have an easier division to play in, with the least path of resistance to the postseason overall may be ranked a lot higher than a club who is equally talented, yet may play in a juggernaut of a division.

The Cubs will top our list for a second straight week despite losing 2 out of 3 games to the Rockies at Wrigley Field this weekend.  The biggest reason is the pitching.

Jake Arrieta is 3 – 0, and has picked up right where we he left off in 2015, and Jon Lester has thrown awesome too.  The Bullpen has also been good.

The bats are too solid not to come around and gel as the season moves along.  They are playing .750 baseball after a 4 – 2 week still.

Bryce Harper is the best player on the planet, and has homered in 6 straight contests at Citizens Bank Ball Park (4 overall in a row for the MLB this year.)  Just were a Jonathan Papelbon last minute meltdown from going a perfect 7 – 0 for the week.

Max Scherzer, Stephen Strasburg. Bryce Harper and Daniel Murphy are their top players – and all performing like it, the rest of the club is following through in their secondary roles.  This team is scary.

I have the Royals as the top American League club.  This squad is 8 – 1 in games that are not started by back end of the rotation man Chris Young.

The reigning 2 time pennant winners have company on the top of the Division to make it interesting, however this team has the better pedigree the last few years.

Some may say with a weekend series win – that the Dodgers should be put in front of the Giants, yet they are still only one game ahead of San Francisco.

With the Giants – there is no real weakness, while with the Los Angeles team, the Bullpen is not giving everyone confidence in the back half of games.

The Dodger Blue is still in the top 5, so I am high on them. Kenta Maeda could be the steal of the winter with how this guy is throwing so far.  Reinforcements are starting to come back. Read the rest of this entry

A mere 18 months after signing a lucrative free agent contract with the Boston Red Sox, third baseman Pablo Sandoval has for all intents and purposes become a pariah with his new team.

Having lost his starting job at the end of the recently concluded spring training, his future with the team is unknown, and at the same time feels untenable. With four seasons remaining on his deal, it’s incumbent upon the Red Sox to find a solution, but what can be done?

Lets start off by saying that the game between the Rangers and O’s today has been PPD already due to rain.  Make sure you switch out all of your fantasy selections off of this.

I like the Cubs, Nats and Cardinals all to win their games here, but also like Jarred Cosart to lead the Marlins in avoiding the sweep to the Braves.

All of those clubs I picked just there are perfect for stacking.  Love Bryce Harper no matter what the price because he will draw walks even if it is a slow day/  He had homered in 5 straight games and destroys Philly pitching in that short porch at CBP.

I went with Buster Posey at Catcher because he will play in the night game for sure.

2.  Gio Gonzalez ($9ooo) vs PHI

3. Michael Wacha, ($8000) vs CIN

In 2011, I looked at a group of super stars and thought they had the hard part of their Hall of Fame narrative taken care of. All they had to do was compile stats.

Very few of them have.

It is starting fast but slowing show episode of The Sully Baseball Daily Podcast.

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For Draft Kings 4/16/16

P – Max Scherzer (vs. Philadelphia Phillies): $13,100. Scherzer is a no brainer for Saturday. He has faced the Phillies lineup over 97 at bats and he has held them to a .175 opposing batting average with 28 strikeouts.

Scherzer holds a career strikeout rate of 9.8 strikeouts per nine innings, which is what makes him so attractive in daily fantasy.

Even if Scherzer doesn’t have a great day, he still has the ability to put up double digit strikeouts, which will help make up any possible damage.

The Phillies have struck out the 7th most out of any Major League Baseball team, so this bodes well for Scherzer.

Another plus for Scherzer is his success at Citizens Bank Ballpark (Philadelphia Phillies home field). In 14 total innings on Citizens Bank’s mound, Scherzer has posted a 1.93 ERA and 15 strikeouts.

He comes at a hefty price, but the point return will outweigh the cost.

P – Jared Weaver (vs. Minnesota Twins): $6,700. Another day and another daily fantasy choice of a pitcher starting against the Minnesota Twins.

The Twins offense has been absolutely brutal since the start of the season. They are in dead last for runs scored and they have struck out the 5th most out of any Major League team.

Weaver started off the season strong against the Texas Ranger after throwing six innings giving up one earned run, walking one, and striking out four.

In 121 career at bats against Weaver, the Twins offense is hitting .256 with only one home run. Bad career numbers mixed with a terrible offensive cold streak is not a good combination for the Twins offense.

Today, April 15th, Major League Baseball honors a baseball hero named Jackie Robinson. Not only is he a baseball icon, but he is an American hero. Jackie Robinson will forever be remembered as the first professional baseball player to break the color barrier during an incredibly hard time period.

Jackie Robinson made his professional debut on April 15th, 1947, which is why today is so special to baseball history. He was the first African American ball player in the modern baseball era and broke the segregation barrier of baseball that lasted over 80 years.

Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and played 10 years. During his 10 year career, he hit .311 with 137 home runs, 734 RBI’s, 947 runs, 197 stolen bases, and a .409 OBP. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962.
