Clay Buchholz pitched shutout ball into the 9th inning. He was undone by a softly hit ball into the infield and a blown save by the bullpen. But the Red Sox would ultimately win in Toronto, 4-3 after 10 innings.
Delmon Young got on base 4 times with a walk, a single, a double and a homer, driving in 3 and leading a potent Orioles attack to a 9-1 drubbing of the Rays.

Mike Minor threw a no hitter until he had 2 outs in the 8th inning. He allowed a single that tied the game. He got no decision for his 7 2/3 innings of 1 hit, 4 walk pitching but the Braves beat the Reds in 12 innings, 3-1.
Eduardo Escobar led a wild Twins offense by going 5-6, tripling, homering, scoring 3 and driving in 2 as Minnesota crushed the Tigers 20-6.
Josh Harrison went 3-5, clubbed a go ahead double, homered and drive in 5 runs as the Pirates won against the first place Brewers, 8-3.

Okay so it is an even year, so most fans in the Bay Area can only think of one thing…Another World Series ring right?
Come on, they won in 2010 and 2012, why not 2014?
The win in 2012 was a nice statistical oddity, but when you factor in that the hunger to win a World Series must dissipate a little bit when you have just cashed one in, then maybe another one can be achieved when the next year hits again.
The Giants went 76 – 86 in 2013, this is more of a stretch, for when they completed the 2011 campaign at 86 – 76 following their 1st World Series Title.
There is room for optimism though, from their top 7 hitters in the Batting Order, this team features some of the streakiest guys at the plate in the MLB. Read the rest of this entry

The Giants won the 2010 World Series with a payroll nowhere near the stratosphere of the top MLB clubs, however escalating salaries have arisen from sustained success (also winning another World Series in 2012).
The franchise now hovers around the $140 – $150 MIL mark for the upcoming campaign.
A lot of this cash has come for simply retaining their own talent.

It is the secondary stat category to Saves for Relievers, but it most cases, the guys pulling down innings in the last few frames play just as an important part of game – if not more.
Last year, two Tampa Bay Rays were in the top 5 – with Jake McGee sitting in 5th with 26 – while Joel Peralta was the clubhouse leader for the MLB at 41.
The guys have to be at the forefront for the 2014 race as well.

The San Francisco Giants Players – Organizational Affiliates, Prospects, Depth Charts, (MLB + MiLB)
The Giants won the World Series in 2010 and 2012, however 2013 will see the team have a losing record, and a bunch of question marks will soon follow with some impending Free Agents. The game has changed in the NL West, with the Dodgers hoarding a Team Salary in the $230 MIL a year range for the next several seasons. The Giants have to spend the money to compete. They have the resources, hold one the best attendances in the National League, and have the consensus #1 Ballpark in the Major Leagues when voted among the others. Regardless of the money spent or not, the management team will have to work more diligently than ever.

The Giants have won 2 of the last 3 World Series Titles. The club was built heavily on Starting Pitching that was drafted, however Brian Sabean has finagled the salary of the team to supplement the offense.
Great acquisitions such as Angel Pagan, Hunter Pence and Marco Scutaro joined the club last season – to help bolster the offense.
The team has had lots of hometgrown products grow up and become money players like Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Matt Cain, Madison Bumgarner and Tim Linceum.
The club will have to make some decisions in the offseason, as Hunter Pence, Barry Zito and Tim Lincecum all become Free Agents. with that being said, their heavy dollar contracts also free up a lot of cash to replenish the team.

Between his incredible performance in 2010 that led the Giants to the World Series title, and led him to the 2010 Rookie of the Year award, and his MVP-worthy performance in 2012 that gave the Giants their 2nd championship in 3 years, it seems that whenever the Giants have Posey on the field, they have a fighting chance. The only time before this season the team struggled was in 2011- after Posey was smashed in a home plate collision. But he need helps this campaign.

It would not take someone very long to find a time that Buster Posey has made a tremendous contribution to the San Francisco Giants. It seems that ever since his callup in 2010, Posey has been able to provide exactly what the Giants have needed.
His entrance into the MLB has coincided with 2 World Series in the 2 full seasons he has played, however this year is not looking as promising. The pitching has been suspect – and the offense has been anemic and hurt.
The team enters play today 6 Games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers, while the lead is in single digits, they must start the charge now, considering Los Angeles has won 22 of their last 27 games.
The Giants conclude a series at home versus the Reds tonight, before the Cubs come to town. After that, the Defending Champions hit Philadelphia and Tampa on the road in a 6 game span.
They still have 6 games versus Arizona, and 7 versus the LA Dodgers the rest of the year, it is imperative this club wins the majority of these head to head matchups.

Angel Pagan (31) led the NL in Triples with 15 in 2012 amongst his 61 Extra Base Hits and 95 Runs. Pagan parlayed his great campaign into a 4 Year/$45 MIL Contract.

Coming off of the 2012 World Series victory, the Giants haven’t really done much this offseason. Either way every team in the league is going to be trying to take them down. When you’re the Champion of all of baseball, what team wouldn’t be gunning for you? Their biggest contest is going to be their rivals in the NL West, the Los Angeles Dodgers. The team has made more moves since August than you can count. The Giants realize what a great team they have and how little moves they made have shown they are confident in what they can do in 2013.
The possibly most important move they have made is resigning the Second-Half-hero Marco Scutaro. His 3 yr./$20,000,000 deal is a great deal for San Francisco. After what he did the Giants probably would have considered paying more for Scutaro. You just can’t match .500 AVG in the NLCS. This man was the definition of clutch for the club. Other very important deals include Hunter Pence, Angel Pagan, and Jeremy Affeldt. Pence, who was acquired at the Trade Deadline from the Phillies, was a huge reason the Giants even made it past the NLDS. His inspirational speeches got the entire squad ready before every game. Him resigning for a 1 YR./$13,800,000 deal was huge for him and the Giants. The team gets to utilize his skills for another year – while he gets to prove he’s worth more come next winter.

Without Marco Scutaro during the second half of the 2012 season – who knows if the Giants would’ve gone nearly as far as they did. He hit a very impressive .362 after joining the Giants in July. He hit a new NLCS record .500 versus the Cards last year. Resigning him was definitely a priority for the Giants so signing him through 2015 on a 3 YR/$20,000,000 was huge for both sides of the deal.
