Robinson Cano: Fantasy Sleeper, Bounce Back, And Ready To Return To An Elite Second Base Option
Robinson Cano enters year 3 of a 10 season contract. So far his arrival has not corresponded into a playoff berth. The Mariners now hold the longest playoff drought in the Major Leagues. The Second Baseman will need to return to a MVP caliber style of play if the franchise wants to be players in the AL West.

Many fantasy baseball owners thought that Robinson Cano was starting to regress last year as he struggled through injuries that affected his first half of the 2015 season, but it looks as if they were wrong. In the first half of 2015, he hit only .251 and struggled to produce his typical run production.
This rough first half was due to an abdominal strain and a terrible stomach condition that affected his energy. Cano was quoted saying that some days he could barely drink water without feeling like he was going to get sick, which shows that his energy wasn’t at a normal level.
This stomach condition lasted much longer than a typical illness, but not many people were aware of this. Following the all-star break, he entered the second half and posted a .331 batting average.
Once he recovered from his bizarre illness, Cano was back to himself. He finished the 2015 season hitting .287 with 21 home runs, 79 RBI’s, 82 runs, and a .334 OBP. To read the rest of the article, click the link below:

This should turn out to be quite fun. A lot of gambling establishments have this sort of deal, and we will keep a running total of this on a daily basis, in addition to MLB Shutout Survivor, Who Owned Baseball (Daily MVP of the pitcher/hitter in both the American and National League) and also our Interleague results.
What Runs Survivor is: A MLB team scoring 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, 10 or (10+) (in different games throughout the course of the season.
Once a club has one of these run totals once, you cross it off and keep going until they complete the 11 different variations.
A Bold Italic illustrates it has been done for runs by the club.
Previous Winners include the SF Giants, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Angels and Toronto Blue Jays all over the last 4 years.
My money in 2016 would have to be on the Baltimore Orioles who could score a lot of runs, but also whiff so fast against top pitchers, that they would be able to rack up the lower run efforts along with the high end scoring totals.
The hardest total to pick off is scoring 9 runs.

No one puts a whole lot of faith in to spring numbers and rightfully so, but that doesn’t mean it’s not fun to look at the numbers as long as you don’t take them too realistically. I like to look at batting average, hits, homers, and RBI for hitters and just ERA and strike outs for pitchers.
ERA isn’t a great indicator with the innings restrictions on these guys but at least we get an idea what’s working and what isn’t. Here are the standouts as of 3.23…

Baseball’s Biggest “Get Out Of Jail Free Cards” For Financial Contracts Over The Last Few Years
Several players have either retired for various reasons, or have served suspensions in which their organization has received an unexpected benefit of salary relief for it in recent years. This will need to be addressed in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement to be forthcoming after this next season.

Before I go into this fully, this is a bit different of an article than “Hoodini Acts” pulled by GM’s in getting out from under horrible contracts, such as the praise for former Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos fleecing the Angels to take Vernon Wells, and being lucky enough for the White Sox to claim Alex Rios.
Those moves paved the way for Toronto to sign Jose Bautista and Edwin Encarnacion to replace those crappy deals with awesome ones, so there is a note of credit to AA.
The new CBA forthcoming should be addressing on how player contracts work towards team salaries when it is due for suspension or retirement. Last week’s sudden packing in the cleats from Adam LaRoche will actually benefit the White Sox with $13 MIL in salary relief.
It is not the 1st time a guy has retired during a contract, and it is the latest where a team may be drawing a sigh of relief.
It wasn’t even the 1st instance of the winter. Earlier this off year, Mets OF Michael Cuddyer retired with one year of service left on his deal. This move led the Mets to have a few extra dollars in their seat cushion to re-ink Yoenis Cespedes to a 1 Year $27.5 MIL deal
Cuddyer was still expensive for New York with a 1sr RD Draft pick forfeit, but at least he only cost the club $8.5 MIL on 1 season, as opposed to an additional $12.5 MIL this upcoming campaign.
If the Mets are still under contract with this guy it makes re-signing Cespedes a tougher deal. Not only cash wise, but it was also clogging up another spot on the Roster if New York had to keep the under-performing former Rockies and Twins player.
Instead, all of the fans wishes were granted when Cespedes came back to Flushing Meadows, and you can add the fact they also re-upped with Bartolo Colon for another year as yet another extension of the Cuddyer decision. Read the rest of this entry

Throughout any given winter, it’s sometimes difficult to figure out what certain MLB front offices are trying to accomplish. The San Francisco Giants were definitely not one of them this past offseason.
After all, it’s an even year. They have a reputation to uphold. Following an 84-78 record in 2015, San Francisco was one of the winter’s biggest spenders, which doesn’t happen very often.
With so many major acquisitions made by the Giants, Diamondbacks and Los Angeles Dodgers, the NL West was undoubtedly one of baseball’s busiest divisions this past winter. On paper, the Giants are a favorite to return to the postseason and keep the even-year trend alive. However, these moves are the epitome of high risk, high reward.

Odds To Win The 2016 AL MVP In The MLB: Best And Worst Bets
Miguel Cabrera won this award back in 2012 and 2013 – and is fully healthy this upcoming campaign, on a club that is much improved and will be in contention for a playoff spot all year. His +700 odd is a great value bet. We are picking the man to win the American League MVP this year. Mike Trout will likely finish 2nd again, and that is based solely on his team probably not vying for a playoff position this year in my view. Trout should still win the AP Player of the Year and Sporting News player of the year as well..

There is no doubt in the world that Mike Trout is the best overall player in the American League, and he is still the best player in the Majors (at least for now – until Bryce Harper has a better 2016 than him again in 2015), but his team is going to make it tough for him to win the MVP over the next few years.
The 2014 winner, and 3 time runner-up in 2012, 2013 and 2015 has to be wondering what his franchise is doing wasting his talent – by surrounding a mediocre supporting cast?
Having said this, the +175 odd is still about where it should be. If the Angels are in the race down the stretch, and he has better number than the field, Trout will take his 2nd trophy this season.
Honestly the odd that surprised me the most was the Manny Machado odd at +500. I am not questioning his talent, or the fact he should be a top 5 player for years in the AL; I am questioning the website for having the O’s ranked 14th out of 15 AL Clubs! Read the rest of this entry

Even though my mind wasn’t really in baseball mode after the crap that happened in Brussels yesterday (Brussels is across the border about an hour from where I live, so it is getting very close), I still wanted to see the historic game between the Cuban national team and the Tampa Bay Rays.
Overall the game itself wasn’t that exciting as the Rays were too strong without really flexing their muscles. The result also shows that Cuban baseball has deteriorated in the past two decades.
Not only because of all the defectors but also because the highest league in Cuba is simply too big for the number of talented players. Back in the nineties, when Cuba played the Orioles, the team managed to win one game.

The Boston Red Sox enter the 2016 season with a revamped major league roster, having landed some significant talent this past offseason. At the same time they have been able to maintain a well-stocked farm system that no less an authority than Baseball America has ranked as fourth-best in baseball this year.
While many will be familiar with some of their better known prospects, their young talent pool is so deep that there are many who have largely flown under the radar thus far in their young careers but may start to get more recognition.

Whether you like it or not, you can’t argue that Alex Rodriguez is definitely a symbol of the game of baseball, whether you believe that is negative due to PEDs or positive due to his illustrious career.
Alex Rodriguez announced Wednesday afternoon that he will play out the rest of his 10-year $275 million contract with the New York Yankees and then retire, which would be after next season, following the footsteps of fellow longtime Yankees Derek Jeter, Jorge Posada, Andy Pettitte, and Mariano Rivera.
The 40-year-old slugger has played 20 years in the MLB thus far–11 with the Yankees and counting, 7 with the Mariners, and 3 with the Rangers. He’s a 14x All-Star, 3x AL MVP, 2x Gold Glover, 10x Silver Slugger, and a 4x Hank Aaron award winner.

Odds To Win The 2016 NL MVP In The MLB: Best And Worst Bets
Yasiel Puig looked like he could be an all world player when he first started his career, however his lackluster attitude over the last few years has people wondering whether or not he will ever make good on his talent. His OPS has gone from .925 to .863 to .758 in the last 3 years respectively. At his optimum output in 2013, that would at least put him consideration for votes toward the award.

Much like the ‘Senior Circuit’ itself, the contenders for the 2016 NL MVP is very top heavy. Bryce Harper, Andrew McCutchen, Paul Goldschmidt and Giancarlo Stanton are the top 4 favorites to win the Award.
Harper at +200 is not a foregone conclusion, and as just 2/1 odds, the number is not great to wager. I do think the man will win 5 of the next 10 MVP Awards, so I am not placing that mark in the bad value either.
Giancarlo Stanton would have a great chance to win the honor if he could stay healthy – with the Marlins being over .500 for the first time since 2008. It is possible the big slugger could bash out 10 more Home Runs to the next day.
Andrew McCutchen is a perennial contender who should also be in the mix this season. If the Pirates win 90 games again, which I project them to, then Cutch should have another top 5 finish.
Paul Goldschmidt at +550, with a chance for the D’Backs to be in the fight all year could finally be the defining moment for the guy who has finished 2nd in the voting for the last 2 years he has played a full year. Read the rest of this entry

Odds To Win The 2016 NL Cy Young In The MLB: Best And Worst Bets
Max Scherzer threw 2 no-hitters in 2015, and carried no – no’s into the late innings on a few other occasions. The man set highs in Strikeouts, Innings Pitched, ERA, WHIP and BB per 9 innings. On a club that will win 90+ games, I believe Scherzer will mop up the NL East all season. I am calling for the guy to win his 1st Cy Young in the National League – after winning the AL honor in 2013.

Clayton Kershaw finally didn’t win a NL CY Young Award last season – and it took historical seasons by Jake Arrieta and Zack Greinke to usurp him of the throne.
The Dodgers chucker still fanned over 300 batters (301) for the 1st time in over a decade, was 16 – 7 – while leading the League in CG/SHO/IP/SO/SO per 9 IP – with still fashioning a ridiculous WHIP of 0.881.
Kershaw finished 3rd in the race, and now has 5 straight campaigns of top 3 finishes. His +125 odd to win again is about par for the course per this odd, however – just like the American League, I am going to go for the value play more on this list.
Last year’s winner (Arrieta) is next on the faves with a mark of +400. I absolutely hate this odd, and for one – think it will be an impossible feat to do what he did all over again. Based on the Cubs offense he won’t need to either.

Mookie Betts Could Be The Best Player In Fantasy Baseball For 2016
Perhaps the best name in baseball, Mookie Betts, could find himself at the top of fantasy baseball rankings following the upcoming 2016 season.
Before we get into my reasons why, let me highlight the background of one of the most exciting players in baseball. Mookie Betts was born in Nashville, Tennessee on October 7th, 1992 (23 years old).
He was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 5th round of the 2011 MLB Draft.
After tearing his way through the minor leagues, he made his debut on June 29th, 2014. Since then, Betts has done nothing but climb the ranks in fantasy baseball and prove to many owners that he is an incredibly versatile asset.
