Which NL Pitcher can Stop Clayton Kershaw From Winning Another Cy Young Award?
Is it possible for a pitcher to take home a Cy Young award despite missing nearly half a season? Judging from what Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw did before he landed on the disabled list and how the rest of his competition has performed since, it sure is.
The southpaw hasn’t pitched since losing to the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 26, but it’s not outrageous to say he’s still the National League’s best pitcher. Despite spotting his competition about two months, he still leads the league in fWAR (5.5) and bWAR (4.8). The biggest question right now is whether or not he’ll return to a big-league mound before the regular season finishes.
The likelihood of that increased with some good news, as J.P. Hoornstra of the L.A. News Group reported on Tuesday. Kershaw escaped a 40-pitch bullpen unscathed and is scheduled for a 60-pitch simulated game later this week. As he continues ramping up, the final step before re-entering the Dodgers’ rotation will be one rehab start.
The award has basically been Kershaw’s to lose all season, with a big determination now being how many starts he can rack up upon getting activated off the DL. There’s still about a month left, which is plenty of time for other contenders to separate themselves from the pack by having a strong finish.
Here are seven NL pitchers who have a shot at preventing Kershaw from winning yet another Cy Young. It all depends on how the last month goes.

Nolan Arenado’s Bat Is Incredible, But His Glove Is Legend… Wait For It… DARY!
Sorry for the “How I Met Your Mother” quote in the title, but I couldn’t resist. At this moment in time, I believe we are witnessing one of the best defensive third baseman to play the game of baseball. At the age of 25, Nolan Arenado has received the National League Gold Glove Award in his first three seasons in the big leagues. He also won his first Fielding Bible in 2015, which means he was voted the best fielding third baseman in the entire Major Leagues, not just the National League. As you can see, he has been racking up the fielding accolades since he was promoted by the Rockies in 2013, but let’s take a look at his numbers.

Yoenis Cespedes Couldn’t be More Perfect for the Bright Lights of New York
Since baseball is a game of failure, it’s imperative for players to remain confident when they’re not successful. It’s even more imperative for those playing in large media markets to not be fazed by the fans and reporters who monitor their every move.
Understandably so, playing in a big city isn’t for everybody, but New York Mets outfielderYoenis Cespedes appears to thrive on it more than anything else.
When he was acquired from the Detroit Tigers minutes before the non-waiver trade deadline last summer, he was expected to immediately become “the man” in New York’s lineup. Mets fans know how often players live up to those kinds of expectations upon landing in Flushing.
So, the fact that he’s lived up to them by hitting .290/.353/.584 with 42 home runs and 108 RBI in 154 games since joining the Mets is shocking. It’s also why fans hope Cespedes either decides against using his opt-out clause after this season, or New York finds a way to keep him with the organization via another contract.

How Jake Powell Exposed Baseball’s Racism
Baseball is no stranger to having those connected to the game being called out for insensitive and/or inappropriate comments. From the 1999 John Rocker Sports Illustrated feature and ensuing suspension, to the more recent termination of Curt Schilling from ESPN, among others, there is an unfortunate history. One of the first such incidents that rose to national attention occurred in 1938 when New York Yankees outfielder Jake Powell caused wide-spread furor over racist comments he made on the radio while doing a live dugout interview prior to a game.

The 2017 MLB Schedule
The MLB Reports will be the best place for the MLB 2017 schedule this offseason.
We have the #1 coverage for MLB Interleague all year round, but we also plan to carry out the updates as they happen just like we did in the 2013 & 2014 winters heading into the following years.
The 2017 MLB schedule will be released on Tuesday Sept 6th.
All 2430 games are to be put on one page post, monthly and weekly installments are to follow. Home openers and the aforementioned Interleague Master Schedule to be carried out in a timely fashion soon there after.
We are toying with the idea of individual team yearly posts as well.
These itineraries are vital for ball park road trips, or to just key in signature series to follow..

Daily Fantasy MLB DFS Picks For DraftKings 8/19/16
P- Tanner Roark (vs. Atlanta Braves): $10,600. In nine career starts against Atlanta, Tanner Roark has a 1.77 ERA. In fact, his last start was against the Braves, where he went seven innings giving up five hits, one earned run, and he struck out three. In his two starts against Atlanta this year, Roark has given up one earned run in 14 innings pitched.
P- Adam Wainwright (vs. Philadelphia Phillies): $6,600. This pick does scare me a bit, but I’m going to stick with it. Over Wainwright’s last two starts, he has not been effective at all. Luckily, the Cardinals are giving Wainwright an extra two days of rest because he believes he has found the issue in his windup. This pick is risky, but the other options that are affordable are very risky as well.
