Who Owned Baseball May 7, 2017 (Daily #MLB AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2017 #WOB Standings

Tommy Pham got 4 hits, two of them homers including a 2 run shot in extra innings to give the Cardinals a 6-4 victory in Atlanta.
Scott Feldman threw a complete game 4 hit shutout, striking out 5 Giants and earning the 4-0 decision for the Reds.
Sandy Leon hit a pair of 2 run homers and helped the Red Sox break open a close game into a 17-6 blow out in Minnesota.
Luis Severino struck out 9 Cubs in 7 innings, allowing only 1 run. He did not get the win but the Yankees topped the Cubs 5-4 in an 18 inning marathon.

Robinson Chirinos homered twice, walked and drove in 3 as the Rangers topped Kansas City, 6-2.

Tyler Chatwood took a perfect game into the 6th and finished with a complete game 2 hitter as the Rockies blanked San Francisco, 5-0.
Jose Ramirez collected 10 total bases including a pair of homers and 6 RBI as a match up of aces turned into a 13-6 slugfest win for the Indians over Detroit.
Nolan Arenado went 3 for 5 with a homer to help Colorado beat San Francisco, 5-0.

Dallas Keuchel struck out 7 A’s in 7 innings, allowing 1 run and 4 hits as the Astros rolled, 7-2.
David Freese collected 3 hits including an RBI single and an RBI double to help the Pirates win against the Cubs, 4-2.

‘There Are Very Few Individuals as Fascinating as Lefty O’Doul’

Lefty O’Doul had an extraordinary baseball career. Blessed with blazing speed and preternatural hitting ability, O’Doul nonetheless failed to stick in the majors until the age of 31. It was partially his own fault: Despite repeated entreaties by coaches, managers and teammates to focus his attention on hitting, O’Doul insisted he was a pitcher, not the man who would eventually retire with a .349 lifetime batting average (fourth-best of all-time).
After his playing days came to a close, O’Doul was appointed “Manager for Life” of the legendary San Francisco Seals (a position he held for 17 years); established a reputation as the best (and most cerebral) hitting instructor in the game; and, through sheer force of will and personality, did more than any other person to promote baseball in Japan, where it remains a national obsession (and where O’Doul is still revered).
With Lefty O’Doul: Baseball’s Forgotten Ambassador, author Dennis Snelling has written the definitive biography of one of baseball’s greatest personalities. It’s a book worthy of its subject.The following interview with Snelling was conducted via email.

The rules: 1) To be considered for the Yankees lineup, a player must have spent the bulk of his career with the team, or barring that, have his career most closely associated with the team (the team logo on his HOF plaque might be instructive in this regard); 2) There will be no double-dipping: Since Ruth mans right field for the Yankees, he can’t be drafted by the Universe. Milwaukee Brewers Research Interview: Pat McBride and Rick Napholz
When I first started thinking I’d like to write a book about the Milwaukee Brewers franchise moving from Seattle in 1970, I kept coming back to a simple question: Who were the original players, coaches, executives, and stadium workers? Not just their names, but who were they personally and what did they experience when the Brewers were in their infancy.
I started by looking at names and faces on the 1970 team photo card and decided to pursue interviewing as many of these guys as possible. I was fortunate last year to interview one of the original team bat boys and one of the ball boys. Both had interesting perspectives and memories of not just the players, but also County Stadium, and what it was like to work at Green Bay Packers games as well.

Yes, I could have just focused on the positive. But sometimes you need to shine the light on the negative.
And seeing the cavalier and dismissive attitude we see towards domestic violence, especially by the coverage of Aroldis Chapman, the shrugs by Hal Steinbrenner and the covering up by the NFL shows that too many people are on the wrong side of history.
