2016’s 30 MLB Park Home Openers Results: Fans Go Home Disappointed 19 Times

Best home win for all 30 clubs in winning 10 - 1 over the Milwaukee Brewers Monday Apr 11, 2016

Best home win for all 30 clubs in winning 10 – 1 over the Milwaukee Brewers Monday Apr 11, 2016  9 runs difference was the best run differential for the home clubs.

It was a bad year for the home clubs in MLB Season Openers in 2016.  The road clubs won 19 of the 30 MLB Park openers.  The worst defeat was at Petco Park (where the Padres lost 15 – 0).

The Cardinals featured the best win for the home side, working over the Brewers for a 10 – 1 win yesterday.

Of note, it was the last home park openers for David Ortiz and the great Vin Scully announced the lineup for his last Dodger Stadium opener, in what was the 30th home opener on the itinerary.

The American League went 5 – 10 and the National League went 6 – 9.

Baltimore, San Francisco, Chicago Cubs and Detroit were the only four clubs that won openers, that also won another home opener to which they were on the road.

The Cardinals had the most lopsided win at home winning 10 – 1, the Giants scored the most runs with 12, and the biggest loss and defeat for a home squad, was San Diego being bageled 15 – 0 by the Dodgers in Game 1 at Petco, in what turned out to be a 3 game home series where they were shutout in all games and outscored 25 – 0.

To end the stats here, the NL Central was the only winning division at 4 – 1, where the Brewers lost the only contest at Miller Park to the Giants.

So I ended up at 224 Games after a flurry of maneuvers and last second scheduling.

Here is how I arrived at that mark.

I went to 15 Doubleheaders in 30 days during September (5 natural doubles occurred in parks with certain rainouts causing them.  Philly, Detroit, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Baltimore all had twinbills at their parks in this month.)

Making every game on my schedule was always a goal, and for the year, there was only 3 missed games and all were made up at the park in which I witnessed.

On Oct.2, 2015 I witnessed a contest at my 30th MLB park of the season, marking the 4th time in 7 years I had seen all of the stadiums. Read the rest of this entry

I am right in the middle of the most torrid stretch of games I have ever gone to.  Since 15 days ago on Friday night (Sept.10) – I have attended 9 doubleheaders in 15 days.  I have 2 more twinbills to plow through on Sunday, Sept.27/2015 and Monday Sept.28/2015.  This will make 27 Games in 16 total days.

Among the games were a doubleheader I witnessed in Detroit on Monday Sept.21/2015.  Even more significant is that I was originally scheduled for Nats Park that night for the 1st 5 months of my journey, only changing it in early Sept. Read the rest of this entry

It was a week in which I had many scares for weather causing me to miss a game I had on the schedule.

Lets go to the Thursday Sept 10th in Philly, that did become a postponed affair. Luckily for yours truly – they rescheduled the game for the next night at Citizens Bank Park.  It did cause me to take a game off the list in Baltimore at Camden, but was a no-brainer considering CBP is the closest park to home base in Sicklerville, N.J.

I then drove to Baltimore on Saturday. This was met with a 3 hour and 2 minute rain delay, even though it never started really raining until 90 minutes into this stoppage.  It is one of my pet peeves about the MLB right now.  Preemptive delays are bogus…and happening at an alarming rate.  I can even understand if the month weren’t September.  But really, with 40 man rosters, and ample pitchers, you delay the start of the game because you think it is going to start pouring.  Play the damn game until the rain persists fellas. So it finally happened after 174 Games into the trip, and 148 Days overall.  I saw a no-hitter tossed by Jake Arrieta in my only game at Dodger Stadium this year.

It was one day after my birthday party in Phoenix yesterday.

It also marked the 375th game I have been to in the MLB ever.

My buddy Ken Lee had to wait 1198 games to make his 1st no hitter count (Although he is also one of 18 crowds to ever see a 4 HR game in 2002, when Mike Cameron blasted 4 bolts at US Cellular Field.)

My pal Tike Narry has now seen 4 no-hitters or perfect games in his last 360 contests after waiting almost 600 matchups to witness his 1st 9 frames without any hits allowed. Read the rest of this entry

So there are ups and downs in this trip as I have ventured out on this journey.  It is not just the baseball games that I am going to….I am trying to fully heal my body and brain after having a bad accident years ago where I was hit and run by a guy.

I have come back 97% to what I need to be, but every once in a while that 3% seeps into the foray.  I had one of those events yesterday.

Over the weekend, we hosted 35 ballpark chasers at my friend Ken Lee’s house in Renton.  This is virtually every extreme ballpark guru in the group across the nation, with the exception of a few omissions.  Ken and I sponsored a barbeque at his house in Renton, WA, USA (Home of Manfish Brewing) – and because of my free car rental days, I was able to secure transportation for all who needed shuttling around Saturday, Aug.22/2015.  I also drove for 7 hours around the city picking up the top ‘ballpark chasers’ of the country.

It was a grand old-time, and all of us had the time of our lives, however I probably kicked up the adrenaline too much, and Monday was a big let down.  I am feeling much better again at today.  The 2nd Annual Ballpark Chasers Meetup in Seattle was a resounding success, and we set the bar high for future venue’s hosting the event in future years.

The following people had a big impact on my weekend: Ken Lee, Scott Bultman JR, Gary Herman. Mike Casiano, Paul Nieuwland, Craig Landgren, Doug Miller, Josh Robbins, Mark Chesna, Tike and Dawn Narry – and of course the rest of the 35 people at the barbeque and 60 or so people at the actual games this weekend

Freakish Delays For Travel Over FRI/SAT Almost Cause Game Misses: 217 MLB Games Trip Still Intact For 2015

a 30 hour travel sector tested my limit and sanity once again. Overall it was not a very good week of execution on either my part, or parties that were helping me on the voyages. I am hoping that having my car with me for the majority will help clean that up in the next 10 days in the Midwest, Toronto and Baltimore, before I hit the West Coast for an 11 day road swing. At least I made it to Yankee Stadium early enough to receive this killer cowboy hat. Unfortunately I will be selling this on EBAY to help pay for some of the fiasco that was this week.

If felt like a page Right Out Of Ripley ‘s

I started out Friday morning (Aug.07, 2015) with much swagger.  I began the day with an exciting interview opportunity in which I nailed for a potential paying gig surrounding MLB.

Since I couldn’t take my car to a Park and Ride in Sicklerville, N.J. (since I would be gone for 40 hours on Friday and Saturday), I walked 2 miles to my public bus – in order to make the connecting transport to Philadelphia Amtrak 30th Station. I did not want to risk a tow charge for using the Park N ride service for too long.

I ate a heavy helping of Ramen noodles before leaving.  Hey, you gotta save dough where you can.  My friend Gary Herman gave me a free coupon for a Chic – fil-a sandwich earlier this week – which I capitalized on since it was 800 feet from my public bus Friday..

NJ Transit took me to the Lindenwold PATCO Speedline.  I have taken this method all week.  It costs just $3 for a one way maneuver into downtown Philly.

If I am headed to New York – they have a Megabus pickup location at Philly independence Hall.  It only takes 25 minutes.

Today was not one of those days.  Trips to Washington are picked up from Amtrak 30th Station only. It is still a $3 move for me because it falls within the free interloop zone for light rail trips out of Jefferson Station.  (Right across from the Greyhound Station on Filbert Street).

So back to the pending weirdness.  I arrived ready to make this journey from the Speedline, when all of the transit rail systems were down to the oil leak a few miles up the train tracks. Read the rest of this entry

Here is a new one for the books.. Extra costs and maneuvers needed to be pulled off because The Pope Is Coming to Philly Sept.24 – Sept.27.

The city of Philly will not run busses through downtown like I needed them too.

So instead if weaving around on $1 bus fares on Megabus, I will have to flip cities between New York and Washington instead.

Then the Reds @ Nationals caused me a chance to alter some more plans – since they decided to reschedule a make up game in Washington for Monday, September 28th at 3 pm. Read the rest of this entry

They call them the dog days of summer, and they are right to an extent.

As I sit here outside Yankee Stadium – waiting for a 130 am bus back to Philly, I am reminded how long this season has been

Tonight’s win for New York  marked the 146th game I have seen this year in 124 Days.  There is 71 games left in 59 days left.

I am going to Washington for the next three days, but also have a game in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon, before catching am Amtrak train to the District.

After that game, a 130 AM bus ride back to Philly, followed by a 4 mile walk back to home base in the wee AM hours will take its toll.  There are no public busses that run at that time of day to make it back to home base. Read the rest of this entry

Maybe it was because of a tough travel day on Monday, but I never even realized I could have just stayed in Philly for a game once my initial plans were derailed to Washington.

In this whole year trip I have over 300 reservation numbers to keep track of.  On this Tuesday I made a rookie mistake.

All the way back in March I switched out a bus trip to Washington from the Amtrak Station in Philadelphia.  The idea back then was to stay overnight in the District Monday Aug.03, 2015.

This idea changed with the prospect of coming back nightly to home base in Sicklerville, NJ. for the entire 6 game homestand for the Nationals this weekend

It is kind of weird the only time i have posed for a picture in front of a Megabus was for a reservation I had that wasn't even valid anymore.

I have done some crazy ballpark road trips over the last 5 years.

For those that haven’t read any of my previous posts, or know the story, maybe because you are at our site for the 1st time, please head to https://mlbreports.com/gwr-tracker-1/

In those pages, I list all of my World Record Attempt Chases.  I have chronicled my streaks each time, with a book binder of evidence, filled with loose leaf paper, complete with signatures from parks officials for validation towards Guinness Book Of World Record Chases.

You see when I go to a ballpark for one of these said trips, I need to stay for the complete game, 1st to last pitch.  I also need for a staffer at each park, or verified witness, to sign that I was present for what I said I was.

What I have handed into the fine folks at Guinness World Record each time after,  was ample evidence to be the record holder, however I was blown away by what I could do now using the  BallPark Pass-Port Book – when I learned of its uniqueness.

all 30 of the MLB Parks have stickers, whether you want to also stamp yourslef in, or have a team official do it for you, this is a great way to have the proper validation that you were indeed at the park.

All 30 of the MLB Parks have stickers for their home parks, whether you want to stamp yourself in, or have a team official do it for you in any of the 30 cities,  this is a great way to have the proper validation that you were indeed at the park.  With the 2013 MLB Season ending soon, and 2014 MLB schedule being released in a week or so, this is a great gift idea for a ballpark fan at Christmas Upcoming!

Going through the border is never easy.  Doing this while also attending a MLB baseball game makes it that more challenging,

In the next two weeks, I will write a guide for travelers going from the Border to Washington State (via White Rock B.C.) – to also going to a multitude of parks from 2 different crossing (via Ontario: Sarnia or Niagara Falls).

As a Canadian myself, I have pulled off these maneuvers dozens of time.  There is an art to it.

Today we are going to talk about heading down to Seattle.

An Interview with BallParkChasers.com Founder and Coors Field Expert Craig Landgren

Friday April.13/2012

Follow Chuck Booth’s  streak all the through to the bitter end.  Schedule is this link:

https://mlbreports.com/gwr-tracker/ or at his official website for all updates!

Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Writer and @chuckbooth3024 on twitter)- I joined Craig’s baseball community website in 2008 (ballparkchasers.com.)  I must say that all of us ballpark fans have a lot to thank him about. Craig launched Ballpark Chasers with the vision of connecting baseball fans around the world, especially those with the life goal of seeing all Major League ballparks. Since going live, Ballpark Chasers has doubled each year in total members and has quickly become the Internet’s largest collection of amateur ballpark images.   In my honest opinion, his website has been the catalyst on so many of us upping the ante on chasing parks around the country.  We are wiser fans and our pocketbooks are definitely a little heavier than they used to be with using his website here as a reference guide for all 30 MLB Parks.  I am proud to call Craig a friend and can’t thank him enough for all of the support he has given to me in my baseball endeavors.  I recently chatted with Craig about Coors Field.  Here is what we discussed.
