All The 2014 Triple Crown Categories May Feature Players On Non-Playoff Teams

Giancarlo Stanton has hit homers in 3 straight games and has 10 HRs in his last 30 contests overall. The Marlins 24 Year Old OF has 5 HR streaks since the ALL - Star Break. With significant leads in both the HRs and RBI, he may just win the NL MVP. Should Stanton have a hot September for Batting Average, he may even run down a Triple Crown. Miami is far enough away from a playoff spot to almost ensure they won't make it.

Giancarlo Stanton holds the current best marks for HRs (36) and RBI (102) in the NL. The Marlins slugger is 10 RBI ahead of Adrian Gonzalez of the Dodgers, and 6 bombs away from Anthony Rizzo.

The Cubs will not make the playoffs, so the nearest contender for the HR crown, on a playoff team is Atlanta’s Justin Upton.  Upton is 10 jacks off the lead, and is also 3rd in RBI for the National League with 91.

Both Lucas Duda (26 HRs) and Marlon Byrd (25 HRs) round out the top 5 and neither of their clubs will make the playoffs.

If Stanton could get hot, he trails the NL Batting Leader Ben Revere (.314 – .295 BA)  2nd and 3rd in the NL Batting Race are (Justin Morneau, COL,  .312) – and Josh Harrison of the Bucs (.310).

Buster Posey is 4th and .303 for the Wild Card leading Giants, and tied for 5th are Aramis Ramirez (.303) with the 2nd Wild Card team currently with the Brewers, and then Andrew McCutchen at .303. Read the rest of this entry

HR Streaks Of 2 Or More In MLB – 2014: (Ike Davis + Joey Bats Only Guys With Active Ones)

Chris Carter is bashing his way to the top of all HR charts again in 2014 - after a sub par start to the campaign. He has 6 streaks of 2 or more HRs, and has added 6 multiple HR affairs to his resume - and all done in the last 90 days or so. Carter sits in 6th with 25 HRs on the year, but don't be surprised if he takes a run at the lead by years end. Carter, 27, belted 29 HRs last campaign - and should well surpass with 45 Houston games left. Oerhaps if the team were looking to deal him - his value is never higher, but this guy is legit.

THE LONG BALL In 2014 MLB: TOP 5 HRs AL/NL + Who Will Win The HR Titles?

Chris Carter is the biggest mover and shaker this week, and is leading the Majors in bombs since May 09. He has fashioned his bolts in a short amount of time by having Multi HR Games, and also coupling it with consecutive streaks. This guy is looking like a keeper for Houston, and may be one of the guys that got away from Billy Beane!

Chris Carter iis leading the Majors in bombs since May 09 – with 28 big flies and 66 RBI during that time frame in just 305 AB. He has fashioned his bolts in a short amount of time by having Multi HR Games, and also coupling it with consecutive streaks. This guy is looking like a keeper for Houston, and may be one of the guys that got away from Billy Beane.  The massive DH/1B/OF burned his old squad last night by drilling a 3 run bomb in the bottom of the 8th inning to give the Astros a 4 – 2 win. The victory knocked Oakland out of 1st place.  I think he will win the HR title in the AL now. Wouldn’t that be something if he won that, in addition to Jose Altuve possibly winning the Batting title?

Chris Carter… we have been preaching this man’s name at this website for years.  Our founder and former lead writer Jonathan told me about this man 3 years ago.

When he was traded by Billy Beane, Jonathan explained it would be a deal that he will regret.  Now with the A’s lacking some firepower, and Jed Lowrie on the shelf, plus having an off year, the Astros are looking good in this one.

I have also pointed out the A’s GM forced the Astros to go over their roster limit – exposing Nate Freiman for him to pluck as a Rule 5 Draft right after, however it is hard to argue the “Moneyball” man may end up on the wrong side of this deal long-term.

It would behoove Oakland to have Freiman see more Plate Appearances.  The big 6 ft 7 behemoth clubs 3 HRs in 2 games in Atlanta – and then rides pine for 4 games in the next week.

That is a blog for another time.

We are talking about Chris Carter.  This big man was once an afterthought in Houston this year, despite bombing 29 jacks in 2013.  Bo Porter was taking flak for having CC still in the lineup back in May when he was hitting about ..153 with 4 HRs as of May 9th.

Since that day, he has crushed 28 HRs and added 64 RBI.in his last 302 AB.  This represents about half of a season, and this guy has been completely on fire. Read the rest of this entry

Multi HR Games in MLB 2014: Alvarez Makes List Again As a 1B

Erik Kratz came into a game for the injured Salvador Perez this week, and proceeded to smack homers in consecutive AB. The 34 Year Old Catcher has now clubbed 23 HRs in 474 Lifetime AB. Perhaps always overlooked, this back up Backstopper should help out KC down the stretch - whenever they want to rest their ALL - Star Catcher. He is surely a better option than Brett Hayes was.

HR Streaks Of 2 Games Or More – 2014 MLB: Joseph’s Historic HRs, Davis On Track, Carter Underrated!

Caleb Joseph is putting up a historic HR run this week, setting a new franchise mark for hitting a long ball in his last 5 straight games, and is throwing out over 50% of the baserunners on the basepaths as a defensive Catcher. The 28 Year Old RHB is giving the management a lot to think about for the future, with the Catchers, First Base and Designated Hitters positions all featuring players who will become Free Agents in the next 1 - 2 years.

There Is 1 active streak of 5 Games:  Caleb Joseph, who is the 2nd player this year to carry a 5 consecutive tilts with a HR ( the other was Devin Mesoraco.

The only other current streak is Adrian Gonzalez ( who is in his 4th streak right now, with the other 3 being at least 3 games, and one of them a 4 games.

Several Catcher flexed their muscles during this particular week.

1 for one, would love to see Joseph tie the club record set by Chris Davis (who was the last MLB to crank HRs in 6 straight (last week of 2012).

Speaking of the Home Run Ball, the Orioles have been obliterating baseball into orbit versus the Cardinals the last few nights.  Baltimore has outscored St. Louis 22 – 5, with hammering 9 jacks over the wall. Read the rest of this entry

Cespedes Wins The 2014 MLB HR Derby With An Awesome Power Display: Stop Complaining About The Contest Experts!

Yoenis Cespedes became just the 2nd player to win back to back titles in the M:B HR Derby Last Night. By winning his 2nd title, he also joins Prince Fielder and the aforementioned Griffey, as the only three guys to win multiple titles. At just age 28, and with that swing, you have to think he has a chance to eclipse everyone and take down a few more of these HR Derby Trophy's.

I have had enough with the experts flogging on the HR Derby last night.

Yes, it took long, but not as long as last year. I believe the actual event was under 3 hours. What every one was feeling had a lot to do with the hour plus rain delay.

I loved the new format of 7 outs, and AL vs NL. If there is anything I think the MLB could do away with – is having 5 players in each league participant.

I firmly believe that Jose Bautista and Giancarlo Stanton suffered because of an inactive round caused by them both winning a bye. Read the rest of this entry

Odds To Win The 2014 Home Run Derby + ALL – Time Derby Winners + Cespedes Wins 2014 Title

HR Derby 2014

I said yesterday that I believed Todd Frazier would be an underdog darkhorse to win the HR derby at Target Field.

Little did I know he is tied for the 8th favorite out of 10 hitters.

The ALL – Star longball competition has changed formats.  There are 3 players from the AL and NL that survive the 1st RD (7 outs each hitter).

The top players in each league (during the 1st round) win a bye into the semi-final round automatically, while the 2nd and 3rd seeds in each league square off in the 2nd round in a matchup each.

Once the winners are established in that round (7 Outs), the remaining 4 contestants will be duking it out in their respective leagues to find who owns the National League and American league big fly bragging rights.

It is all players within their own league until the final.

The winners of the AL/NL will face off for the championship.  Again, all rounds contain 7 outs.  Maybe this will ease some of the time constraints. Read the rest of this entry
