MLB Interleague Master Schedule In 2017: AL Looking To Speedbag The NL For A 14th Straight Year
We go over this every season, but I am shocked to not see that much coverage on the issue. The American League has absolutely thrashed on the National League in Interleague for the last 13 years.
Don’t tell me this is an anomaly. This is a massive trend. Plus no, the answer is not to eliminate MLB Interleague to level out the playing field.
I am already not going to watch the ALL – Star Game this year because it doesn’t mean anything. Yes. I may be in the minority of the game actually being worth something in the MidSmmer Classic. For those keep scoring at home, the League that actually won the All Star Game incredibly played 3 less games than the loser thanks to MLB’s brilliant (insert sarcasm here) 2 – 3 – 2 format.
But I guess no one else remember’s guys high fiving each other in the dugout once they were lifted in the ALL – Star Game, so they could catch a plane. I will watch the HR Derby, and that is it. I digress.

MLB Interleague results for 2016: AL Wins the season series for the 13th straight year! 165 – 135 (.550): AL Leads ALL – Time Record over the NL: 2730 – 2434 (.529)
In the last 3468 Games of AL vs NL in this 13 season win streak, the Junior Circuit is sporting a tidy record of 1897 – 1571 (.547), This is equating to about 28 Games over .500 per campaign now in a 300 Game schedule.
I hardly think that 2017 will be any different. We have called for the American League to repeat their 2015 campaign where they won 167 games. This will mean more wins in the AL than the AL (1232- 1198) out of the 2430 total games.
There is more parity in the American League, and all of them will feast on the Phillies, Braves, Brewers, Reds and Padres for sure.
Even with the AL teams not being able to play their Designated Hitter in the NL Parks, they hold this mark.
Purists will call for the elimination of the DH altogether, and I have come full circle to that thinking too. But I also don’t want to see the Pitcher hit either.
It will take a top pitcher like Clayton Kershaw or Max Scherzer to blow his leg like Chien-Ming Wang in order for the chuckers not to hit in either league.
Again this is a topic we have addressed.
One other thing I would like the MLB do is to have the worst records of both the American League and National League play the last weekend of the regular season the following year. This would mean the Minnesota Twins versus the Reds or Padres.
The Interleague year end series will be the Royals hosting the DiamondBacks. I am not sure that series will have postseason ramifications this time around.
Last season the Tigers could not beat the lowly Braves in the last weekend, but the Tigers would have had to have won at least 2 games beyond that – in order to make the Wild Card Game. Let’s eliminate that.
If you want to go one further, why not have the 14th team in each league play the series before that. Yes it may not be these clubs turns to face each other in Interleague, but the MLB could make it happen.
I also believe that we have not seen MLB Interleague expanded due to the dominance of the Interleague play since 2004.
Each club plays 20 games of their 162 game schedule against the other league. I have long since hoped that would double. This will never be the case under the current format.
Another thing i see wrong in a lot of predictions from writers are the inefficient amount of total wins for the Leagues and as a whole, Interleague records must be factored in.
If the AL has 1232 wins. than the National League sure as hell better have 1232 losses in the columns too. when you play your own league and even amount of Wins and Losses are created for the 2130 Games.
Okay..So I didn’t mean to piss you off here. The good news is that we have a dedicated page to feature the MLB Interleague results, that will not have this entire diatribe. Please click the link here.
