Chuck Booth’s 2015 MLB Park Historical Road Trip
The GOAL: 183 Straight Days (every single day at least 1 gm) Of ALL 30 MLB Parks Trip In 2015 (216 Games) view full year schedule.
The CAUSE: To Raise Money for Concussion Awareness (via Sports Legacy Institute. donate money here) Through Inspiring Others.
The week started off in New York City at 12:01 AM pn Monday morning, I drove back to Sicklerville, NJ, completing 26 days where I drove almost 17000 Miles. It was a crazy stretch of travel, but had a nice ending.
Monday afternoon came around the bend, and I was on my way to Baltimore. The idea was to come back to Sicklerville every 2 nights, while blogging the other night at Starbucks in between. The tolls on this roundtrip run around $30.
As soon as I made it to Baltimore, I stopped off at the White Marsh area (Exit 67) on the I – 95. There is a way to avoid the last $4 toll towards the ballpark by taking the 40 West.
I know of this parking place at a casino nearby (for free) and watched the game. It was an extra inning affair, and I was honestly beatdown from the previous week of traveling.
The goal was to write that night, but I fell asleep at the White Marsh Park and Ride area. Dining on a bunch of fruit I brought with me from the weekend, plus some pretzels from WAWA, I made it through Tuesday without spending any money at all either.
On Tuesday afternoon I was fighting the heat with the Air conditioner in my car early at the same parkade in the casino as I parked in the day before. Except this time a security guard asked me if I was sleeping. I responded I was getting psyched to gamble.
For the effect of looking like I was a gambling patron, I went inside the casino and played $20 on one roulette spin. At least I could say I wasn’t entirely freeloading from the place with their parking. I was now a customer. Except for I won $260 on that one spin.
I then pulled a maneuver I have seen done before on a movie called “Hard Eight”. I switched on the next roll to $5 chips. I only bet a few chips. When the pit boss wasn’t entirely paying attention, I switched back to $1 chips, the following spin after that. I was sitting on a full pyramid of chips. The pit boss wasn’t very strong on his comprehension of what was going on at the table.
The point of the story is I lost all remaining profit – chasing the #29, but the pit boss offered me a two night stay. He must have thought I dropped a thousand dollars, when really it was switching the chip value I was playing. I wonder if even know he knows. Or maybe he liked my sports story about going to all of the 30 MLB Parks. I was only at the table for an hour.
Armed with a 2 night – 3 day stay, I was in the money savings, even though I literally broke even at the Roulette Table.
The freebies continued all week. A new pub across from MT Bank Stadium called “Game On” have given me a free beer after all 6 games here. Hell yeah I am in for a free brew every night I was here. It has been hot all week.
So now it is Saturday night, and I have spent $0.33 total for food during the entire week.
I stocked up the free breakfast carts (with care parcels for the road on Wednesday and Thursday, that were enough to sustain the whole nights through. I also cashed in a free Canadian Airmiles deal to have a Best Western Stay on the outskirts of Baltimore Friday. This carried a free breakfast meal too.
The only money I spent, was after I had my 4th coffee at Starbucks this week, my Christmas gift from a client back at home last year. finally ran out – and I had to spend $0.33.
