Aaron Nola won a tense pitchers duel and gave the Phillies a much needed 2-0 victory with 8 shutout frames while striking out 9 Washington batters.

David Price continued his terrific second half with 8 scoreless innings, allowing 3 hits as the Red Sox blanked the Indians, 7-0.

Javier Baez collected 3 hits, including a massive homer, in the Cubs 7-1 thrashing of the Reds.

Ronny Rodriguez homered and doubled, driving in 2, as the Tigers beat the White Sox, 7-2.

Earning 1/2 WOBs:

 

Max Scherzer struck out 10 Phillies in 7 innings, holding them to 2 hits and 2 runs. But he absorbed the hard luck 2-0 loss in Washington.

Jose Pirela went 3 for 5 and drove in a pair of runs but the Rockies walked off against the Padres, 4-3.

Whit Merrifield singled 3 times, stole a base and scored a run but the Royals came up short against the Rays, 4-3.

Yusmeiro Petit gave the A’s a chance with a pair of 1-2-3 inning, striking out 3 Twins and stopping their attack. Oakland could not complete the comeback and lost 6-4.
