The Mets Should Do Whatever It Takes To Sign Yoenis Cespedes This Winter

Yoenis Cespedes is a superstar player that has shown he loves the New York spotlight. With some progressive thinking, and a great amount of their young pitching superstars under team control for several years, the Mets have the wherewithal to sign the big Cuban OF. It is my idea that they outbid everyone to sign him, and then trade Curtis Granderson to create enough room in the OF, so that he can move over to a permanent spot in RF in Flushing Meadows.

There are few players deserving of 100 Million Dollar Plus contracts in the game of baseball right now.  Yoenis Cespedes has played himself into consideration for this honor with his second half of play.

Vastly underrated, and a main cog in the A’s renaissance from the time he was there, he has done the same thing in Flushing Meadows.

The Mets are a different kettle of fish with the Big Man in their lineup.

How do you like a .287/.337/.604 3 Slash line with 31 Extra Base Hits and 44 RBI in 57 Games Played with the Mets?  Before you think this is just a blip on the radar, the man averages over 70 Extra Base Hits – with 30 HRs and 103 RBI over his 162 Game average for his career thus far. Okay.  Lets start this blog by coming clean about my intentions.  I want for the MLB to hire me as a travel ‘host/public speaker/blogger – or whatever they want me to do for a salary to work out of New York.

I bring a vast amount of travel knowledge when it comes to the 30 MLB cities that are in the Majors. I have visited all of them five times or more in the last 7 years alone.

Just call me in for an interview and present me geography challenges involving a few ballparks, and see what I come with. Read the rest of this entry

So I ended up at 224 Games after a flurry of maneuvers and last second scheduling.

Here is how I arrived at that mark.

I went to 15 Doubleheaders in 30 days during September (5 natural doubles occurred in parks with certain rainouts causing them.  Philly, Detroit, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Baltimore all had twinbills at their parks in this month.)

Making every game on my schedule was always a goal, and for the year, there was only 3 missed games and all were made up at the park in which I witnessed.

On Oct.2, 2015 I witnessed a contest at my 30th MLB park of the season, marking the 4th time in 7 years I had seen all of the stadiums. Read the rest of this entry

The Most Recent No Hitter For Each Franchise (Updated for Max Scherzer, October 3, 2015 )

AL BELLO/GETTY IMAGES

AL BELLO/GETTY IMAGES

TWO NO HITTERS IN ONE YEAR!!

Well you can not blame Max Scherzer for the Nationals’ woes! He came to DC and found himself getting two no hitters in the same year!

The last time someone did two in one year it was Roy Halladay doing one in the regular season and another in the the Division Series.

Scherzer had the second game of a lifetime and Washington has its third no hitter since the last day of the 2014 season after not having one since 1931.

Not a bad way to say goodbye to the season for Scherzer.

It is time to update my list!

I am right in the middle of the most torrid stretch of games I have ever gone to.  Since 15 days ago on Friday night (Sept.10) – I have attended 9 doubleheaders in 15 days.  I have 2 more twinbills to plow through on Sunday, Sept.27/2015 and Monday Sept.28/2015.  This will make 27 Games in 16 total days.

Among the games were a doubleheader I witnessed in Detroit on Monday Sept.21/2015.  Even more significant is that I was originally scheduled for Nats Park that night for the 1st 5 months of my journey, only changing it in early Sept. Read the rest of this entry

Lots of stuff is happening as baseball hits the home stretch. An all Texas series has playoff implications, the Yankees and Rays played a thriller and the Cespedes/Harper debate is just silly.

Meanwhile one of my listeners thinks I talk too much about the Red Sox and Giants. They may have a point. Either way, I found a way to remedy that.

It was a week in which I had many scares for weather causing me to miss a game I had on the schedule.

Lets go to the Thursday Sept 10th in Philly, that did become a postponed affair. Luckily for yours truly – they rescheduled the game for the next night at Citizens Bank Park.  It did cause me to take a game off the list in Baltimore at Camden, but was a no-brainer considering CBP is the closest park to home base in Sicklerville, N.J.

I then drove to Baltimore on Saturday. This was met with a 3 hour and 2 minute rain delay, even though it never started really raining until 90 minutes into this stoppage.  It is one of my pet peeves about the MLB right now.  Preemptive delays are bogus…and happening at an alarming rate.  I can even understand if the month weren’t September.  But really, with 40 man rosters, and ample pitchers, you delay the start of the game because you think it is going to start pouring.  Play the damn game until the rain persists fellas. So it finally happened after 174 Games into the trip, and 148 Days overall.  I saw a no-hitter tossed by Jake Arrieta in my only game at Dodger Stadium this year.

It was one day after my birthday party in Phoenix yesterday.

It also marked the 375th game I have been to in the MLB ever.

My buddy Ken Lee had to wait 1198 games to make his 1st no hitter count (Although he is also one of 18 crowds to ever see a 4 HR game in 2002, when Mike Cameron blasted 4 bolts at US Cellular Field.)

My pal Tike Narry has now seen 4 no-hitters or perfect games in his last 360 contests after waiting almost 600 matchups to witness his 1st 9 frames without any hits allowed. Read the rest of this entry

So there are ups and downs in this trip as I have ventured out on this journey.  It is not just the baseball games that I am going to….I am trying to fully heal my body and brain after having a bad accident years ago where I was hit and run by a guy.

I have come back 97% to what I need to be, but every once in a while that 3% seeps into the foray.  I had one of those events yesterday.

Over the weekend, we hosted 35 ballpark chasers at my friend Ken Lee’s house in Renton.  This is virtually every extreme ballpark guru in the group across the nation, with the exception of a few omissions.  Ken and I sponsored a barbeque at his house in Renton, WA, USA (Home of Manfish Brewing) – and because of my free car rental days, I was able to secure transportation for all who needed shuttling around Saturday, Aug.22/2015.  I also drove for 7 hours around the city picking up the top ‘ballpark chasers’ of the country.

It was a grand old-time, and all of us had the time of our lives, however I probably kicked up the adrenaline too much, and Monday was a big let down.  I am feeling much better again at today.  The 2nd Annual Ballpark Chasers Meetup in Seattle was a resounding success, and we set the bar high for future venue’s hosting the event in future years.

The following people had a big impact on my weekend: Ken Lee, Scott Bultman JR, Gary Herman. Mike Casiano, Paul Nieuwland, Craig Landgren, Doug Miller, Josh Robbins, Mark Chesna, Tike and Dawn Narry – and of course the rest of the 35 people at the barbeque and 60 or so people at the actual games this weekend

ASTRONOMICAL!

Mike Fiers pitched a masterpiece tonight. The Astros pitcher threw a no hitter and totally shut down the reeling Dodgers, retiring the last 21.

It is the kind of game that could be the inspiration for ONE first place team and the low point for another.

And while we are here, let’s salute Roy Oswalt, Peter Munro, Kirk Saarloos, Brad Lidge, Octavio Dotel andBilly Wagner . They were the Astros pitchers who combined for a no hitter back in 2003. It was fun for them to be listed here until tonight.

But this is Mike Fiers night!

Freakish Delays For Travel Over FRI/SAT Almost Cause Game Misses: 217 MLB Games Trip Still Intact For 2015

a 30 hour travel sector tested my limit and sanity once again. Overall it was not a very good week of execution on either my part, or parties that were helping me on the voyages. I am hoping that having my car with me for the majority will help clean that up in the next 10 days in the Midwest, Toronto and Baltimore, before I hit the West Coast for an 11 day road swing. At least I made it to Yankee Stadium early enough to receive this killer cowboy hat. Unfortunately I will be selling this on EBAY to help pay for some of the fiasco that was this week.

If felt like a page Right Out Of Ripley ‘s

I started out Friday morning (Aug.07, 2015) with much swagger.  I began the day with an exciting interview opportunity in which I nailed for a potential paying gig surrounding MLB.

Since I couldn’t take my car to a Park and Ride in Sicklerville, N.J. (since I would be gone for 40 hours on Friday and Saturday), I walked 2 miles to my public bus – in order to make the connecting transport to Philadelphia Amtrak 30th Station. I did not want to risk a tow charge for using the Park N ride service for too long.

I ate a heavy helping of Ramen noodles before leaving.  Hey, you gotta save dough where you can.  My friend Gary Herman gave me a free coupon for a Chic – fil-a sandwich earlier this week – which I capitalized on since it was 800 feet from my public bus Friday..

NJ Transit took me to the Lindenwold PATCO Speedline.  I have taken this method all week.  It costs just $3 for a one way maneuver into downtown Philly.

If I am headed to New York – they have a Megabus pickup location at Philly independence Hall.  It only takes 25 minutes.

Today was not one of those days.  Trips to Washington are picked up from Amtrak 30th Station only. It is still a $3 move for me because it falls within the free interloop zone for light rail trips out of Jefferson Station.  (Right across from the Greyhound Station on Filbert Street).

So back to the pending weirdness.  I arrived ready to make this journey from the Speedline, when all of the transit rail systems were down to the oil leak a few miles up the train tracks. Read the rest of this entry

More Travel Chaos On 217 Game MLB Trip: The Pope Is Coming To Philly

He will be bringing his talents to Philadelphia, effectively shutting down traffic in all directions during late September, causing this ballpark chaser to scramble some more.

Here is a new one for the books.. Extra costs and maneuvers needed to be pulled off because The Pope Is Coming to Philly Sept.24 – Sept.27.

The city of Philly will not run busses through downtown like I needed them too.

So instead if weaving around on $1 bus fares on Megabus, I will have to flip cities between New York and Washington instead.

Then the Reds @ Nationals caused me a chance to alter some more plans – since they decided to reschedule a make up game in Washington for Monday, September 28th at 3 pm. Read the rest of this entry
