The club jumped to +900 for the League Pennant and +1800 for the World Series.  This just happened overnight as they were also +2000 to win the Fall Classic as of yesterday.  TB as the 7th favorite in the AL is still great value even with the less money to win now – as opposed to just 24 hours ago.  The Yankees are not good value as the 3rd favorite in the AL now.

Just as I predicted would happen, someone hammered the Tampa Bay Rays enough for them to switch spots with the Toronto Blue Jays on the odds list.

The Rays shot up from +1050 to win the AL, and +2000 to win the World Series, to now +900 to win the AL, and +1800, while the Jays have gone to +1100 and +2000 overall, from +1000 and +1800 in for the AL Pennant and World Series respectively.

Most of the odds favor the American League to win in any Fall Classic Matchup versus the National League still.

The NL features heavy favorites of the both the LA Dodgers, Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals.  These 3 teams are best not to pick them to win the NL as the odds are brutal.

If it is your intention to wager on them, pick them to win the World Series, as their odds exponentially increase.

If you are picking ATL/CIN/PIT/SF/PHI/ARI/MIL and COL, pick them to win the NL, as they pay less than +100 (-105  to – 130) in the translation between NLCS Winner and World Series Winner. Read the rest of this entry

Odds To Win The MLB 2014 World Series As Of Right Now

If you have read any of these odds listed prior, I had mentioned the M's were great value at +4000 (even after Cano, in which I said pounce, they have since jumped to +3300 in January, and now are at +2800). However this team is suffering from early injury trouble, can't seem to land an additional bat to the roster, and are banking on too many variables at the new odd. Stay clear.

It has been a tough week for the Seattle Mariners.  1st a freak injury to  Hisashi Iwakuma – has him out 4 – 6 with a bad finger that was caught into a batting cage net.

While Franklin Gutierrez being hurt is not a surprise, it still comes at a bad time.

To make matters worse, Nelson Cruz seems to balking at signing a deal with the PAC NW club.

At this point, the Mariners might want to just think about whether they really want that guy anyway.

The Homer Bailey Extension Is Good For The Short Term In Cincy: Not Sure About The Long – Term Though

Hunter Stokes (Chief Writer):

Follow The MLB Reports On Twitter

Homer Bailey may be the 3rd Starting Pitcher on the depth chart, but he happened to be the 1st guy up on Free Agency out of Mat Latos (2016 FA) and Johnny Cueto (2016 FA).

For this reason alone, I like the team extending the 27 Year Old to a 6 YR deal worth a minimum of $105 MIL, and with a Mutual Option for $25 MIL for the 2020 campaign – that could make it a 7 YRs/$125 MIL pact.

The deal starts off pretty good for dollar sense in the first two years, with Bailey making $8 MIL in 2014, and $9 MIL in 2015.

From there if I can borrow a line from Anchorman “That escalated quickly”, the next few years go like this, $18 MIL, $19 MIL, $21 MIL and $23 MIL for the years starting in 2016 – and finishing in 2019. Read the rest of this entry

Kansas City Royals Payroll In 2014 + Contracts Going Forward

Whether or not the Kansas City Royals make the playoffs this year or not  – I still agree with their decision a few years back to trade Wil Myers for James Shields.

I still think they should pay a hefty sum to extend the 32 Year old RHP for 3 or 4 years beyond this year.

It would significantly open up the competitive window a little further in duration – and I think they are the 2nd best team in the AL Central, with a chance to knock on Detroit’s door shortly. Read the rest of this entry

Regular Season Over And Unders For MLB Wins Per Club 2014: Gambling 101

It is time for all of the predictions to come forth for the MLB season. Just a note here, make sure your totals equal 2430 games worth of wins and losses. As you can see in this articles, I broke it down also for Division Records. Remember when betting on futures, that the AL usually holds a decisive Interleague record over the National League. In 2014, I believe the AL will register 32 more wins than the NL. Many of the top FA sluggers headed to the Junior Circuit.

These are my predictions as of today for 2014.  Also the Odd Over/Under as listed by the Atlantic Casino In Reno and my ultimate pick for the year win totals.

The American League continues to reign supreme every year in Interleague.  Notice I have placed the AL Record at 1231 – 1199, versus the National League’s 1199 – 1231.

The AL has 2 of the 3 best divisions in baseball, and the AL East might feature the best out of the pack.  Even with these odds, we could see 8 out of the 10 teams in those division land records over .500

If I were to rank Divisions, I am going AL East, NL Central, Al West (don’t let the Houston Astros record take down the rest of the fleet), NL West, AL Central and NL East. Read the rest of this entry

Derek Jeter Is Retiring In 2014: He Is Hoping It Will Be A Season To Remember

I am sure that Derek Jeter will attempt to play in 2014 - regardless of how this season ends up. #2 has a Player Option for $8 MIL in 2014. It would behoove he and the club if Jeter exercises it. After he led the MLB in hits last year with 216, he is sitting on 11 hits in 2013 - due to 3 DL stints and just 49 AB this year. Jeter passed Eddie Collins, and will soon blow by Paul Molitor, but how much longer will he play after this campaign?

Derek Jeter has announced today – that 2014 will be his last year in the MLB. After he led the MLB in hits  in 2012 with 216, he finished with just 11 knocks in 2013 – due to 4 DL stints and just 53 AB. The worst the team has ever done in his 19 year career, is finish 87 -74 in 2000 (still won the WS). The only time the club missed the playoffs – was in 2008, when they were 89 – 73.  We will follow his last season much like we did Mariano Rivera.  Endless amounts of respect should be poured out on the road and at home for this man.  In 2014, he will enter his 20th and final campaign in the Bronx.  The team has never had a losing season under his time there heading into 2014.

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst and Website Owner)

2014 will mark the second straight year that an ALL – Time Yankee Legend will have a year long retirement party.

The emergence of Derek Jeter in the Bronx culminated with a new dynasty of Bronx Bombers’ baseball – and resulted in 6 World Series visits in his first 7 years as the club’s Shortstop.

Derek Jeter personified everything that was great in the sport of baseball – and New York City, in a time where there were seedy underlings doing damage to the game.

The man is a consummate professional, and carried himself in a dignified manner, despite playing in a city where you can hardly breathe when it comes to media attention.

The Giancarlo Stanton Extension Debate

The Marlins have one of the most prolific young power hitters in the game of baseball in Giancarlo Stanton. After this recent campaign, the 24 Year Old has a 3 Slash Line of .265/.354/.899 - with 117 HRs and 294 RBI in 1792 Career AB. The toughest challenge the ownership has - will be to lock up this Slugger long - term, as he has frequently commented on the direction of the franchise in a negative light. Stanton has 3 years left of Arbitration - before he will be eligible for Free Agency heading into the 2017 season.

The Marlins have one of the most prolific young power hitters in the game of baseball in Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton has 3 years left of Arbitration  before he will be eligible for Free Agency heading into the 2017 season. Still, his price tag is only going to keep increasing so the franchise will have to act fast to keep their beloved outfielder in Miami for the long-term.

Sam Evans ( Baseball Writer and Marlins, Mariners Correspondent):

Giancarlo Stanton is one of the most talented young hitters in baseball. He is a tremendous athlete with ridiculous power that already has 117 Major League home runs in less than 500 games.

Luckily enough for the city of Miami, they will likely get to enjoy watching Stanton for a couple more years, as he won’t hit free agency until 2017.

However, the club won’t have a competitive team during that time frame and it would make a lot of sense for their front office to do everything in their power to sign Stanton to an extension.

It still remains unlikely that Stanton will want to stay in Miami and the Marlins will be willing to shell out the money to keep him, but if an extension is going to happen, it will happen sooner rather than later.

I have scoured this list and have come up with some deep recommendations.  If you are picking an AL team to go to the World Series, you are better off just picking the AL odds, and not going for a World Series win.

Virtually every team has better odds in the AL just to win the American League – as opposed to the World Series.  The Tigers are +500 to win the AL, yet are +900 to capture the World Series.

Based on the top three teams of LAD, WSH and STL likely countering the AL, the World Series is more up in the air.

For the National League teams, it is a much better wager to just pick the World Series outright.  On these numbers, every time you pick favors the World Series odds compared to just the NL win. Read the rest of this entry

Re – Aligning To 4 Divisions May Help The MLB

I have long since agreed with this websites philosophy on re-aligning the Divisions for payroll and geography reasons. Read the rest of this entry

The Toronto Blue Jays Could Be Facing Yet Another Challenge For Payroll

Toronto is the only team in the MLB not in the USA. With that comes foreign currency. For the years of 1990 - 2007, the Canadian Dollar was hovering around the 70 cents mark for the duration. The last economic crash in the USA - had the dollar at par for the better part of the last 7 years, including once reaching $1.1o for every George Washington bill in America. The average for the exchange rate has been in the mid 90 cents range. The loonie has been in a nosedive since 2014 kicked in - and now it is around 90 cents for every US Dollar. If it goes down much more, it will be just another challenge the Jays will face in a vaunted AL East Division.

Luckily for Toronto, the last 6 years have been decent for the exchange rate.

This is even more crucial for the Blue Jays considering they reside in a tough AL East with payroll powerhouses Boston and New York. Read the rest of this entry

Odds To Win The MLB 2014 World Series As Of Right Now

Yes it has taken years for the Mariners to build their Minor League Systems up, and begin to see the fruits of their labour, however risking all a huge chunk of their team salary on a player - who might see a harsh decline in his production - based on variant factors, is a gamble they simply shouldn't delve into. Perhaps with the outcome of the meeting the club had with Cano, it has effectively burned the bridges between the two parties? The M's are on the cusp of breaking through to success, but they should take the Pirates mode of getting there, instead of trying to jump the shark too early.

It takes countless hours figuring out geography, finances – and setting up contingency plans if you fail at a game.  You will see a snippet of my work here.

I haven’t been able to sleep for a few days.  After blowing off the snail speed website of http://www.mlb.com for not converting the last 7 teams home start times, I decided to try my luck with http://www.espn.com.

Much to my delight, they have posted all of the games times for all 30 MLB clubs – in coordination with the teams doing so themselves on their own sites.

I have done this for the last 7 years.  Yes, it is sad in a way, but we all have our vices in life, mine just happens to be the master schedule for Major League Baseball.

My interest this year was ramped up even more when Craig Calcaterra wrote a blog about how somebody was doing 30 Ballparks in 30 days.

I am not going to say this is not still a great feat – because it is, I just wish he would have taken 5 seconds to google the record holder for “Fastest To See All 30 MLB Ballparks.”

Once again, this wasn’t done, so half of the story wasn’t told.

For those that have followed this website over the course of 2011 – 2014, or even have been a part of ballparkchasers.com – will be aware we have a fraternity of insane stadium goers.

ALL Games Attended – you must be there from 1st to last pitch.  You have to go to all 30 parks before returning to another one, otherwise it starts all over.

Right on cue with the Masahiro Tanaka signing, the Yankees jumped from +1400 to +1200 to win the World Series.  if you heeded my advice, you received them at the 1st odd.

it was the 2nd recommendation that came in really nicely.  I also said the Mariners were great value at +4000, and once they signed Robinson Cano, they vaulted to +3300.

So who is a bigger longshot to win the World Series now.  The Gambling Pundits, dropped the Rays to +2000 now.  It is now one of the best value picks on the board.

I finally decided to put my money where my mouth is with a wager.  After the Superbowl, I will likely throw down so more cash.

Today we are talking about young International Phenom pitchers.  I picked 5 former and current pitchers that hailed from other places other than the USA to concentrate the story on.

I came up with Fernando Valenzuela from Mexico, Hideo Nomo and Yu Darvish from Japan, Eric Gagne from Canada and Juan Marichal from the Dominican Republic.

The 5 baseball players all flashed onto the scene as young pitchers, 3 of them dominating their peers from the get go.

Eric Gagne, the 5th member of this study, only started to dominate when the Los Angeles Dodgers sent him to the bullpen.

Speaking of the Los Angeles Dodgers, three of these five pitchers were both with the club when they started out.  It is a credit to their scouting staff.

There is a reason why no other team has turned out more ‘Rookie of the Year’ players in the last 30 years than the Dodgers.

There is nothing that revs my adrenaline more than knowing I am going to chase a ballpark this year.

In 2013, between running this website, and juggling my work, I only went to 2 games in MLB Parks.

Nicely I made the opener at Dodger Stadium, and then captured a late season game in Safeco.

After breaking my own World Record for witnessing 30 MLB Games (All Parks in 23 days – every pitch) in 2012, I was left with my worst total in a decade last year.

I wanted to change that in 2014.  Unfortunately I wont be chasing any records this upcoming year, but I will potentially be going on a historic run in 2015.

I will get to that in a minute.  This year I do plan on seeing 20 games at Safeco Field.  It is important for me to see games live in person, so I forked out $750 yesterday to do just that.

I bought a 17 game flex plan for the Mariners, and it involves an array of games from April to September.

While it will trounce my records ever for a ballpark in one year, there are no plans for attending a game in any other ballpark on the road this season.

Now that we have talked about, let’s chat about my plans for 2015.

Los Angeles Dodgers Payroll In 2014 + Contracts Going Forward: Updated For Kershaw Deal

The Dodgers already have salary commitments that are over $225 MIllion now - with the $$ given to their reigning NL Cy Young Winner. Kenley Jansen and A.J. Ellis have yet to be paid in Arbitration yet. The club will certainly pass last years $235 MIL plus payroll. By doing the Kershaw deal also does not prevent them from trying to sign Masahiro Tanaa either. Last year, the Dodgers paid out around $10 MIL for their part in going over the Luxury Tax Threshold for the 1st time - at a 17/5% penalty. Under the current CBA, even if the team went to $300 MIL for 2014, they would only have to dole out roughly $25 MIL in penalties for a 2nd time offender. LAD have taken full advantage of the salary structure - and don't look for them to relent any time soon.

I wrote an article just 16 months ago on how the LA Dodgers were going to force the economics of baseball the way they were conduct business with the new ownership.

As someone who has worked the majority of the time on the site for the last 3 years, I take great pride in my research.  So far it has worked out.

The Dodgers following what I said is nice vindication as a writer.

I am not here to toot my own horn, but our website was also on the forefront of the Athletics renaissance a few years back, the Rays coming back to fight in the 2013 year, and also we were one of the 1st to report the Shields for Myers deal.
