RON VESELY/MLB PHOTOS
Ho hum… another day and another pair of heart stopping playoff games.
Time to see who owned October.
Each winning team for every post season game gets a pitcher and a hitter who earn a full WOO (Who Owns October.)
And at my discretion, I award a 1/2 WOO’S to a worthy player on the losing team.
At the end of the post season, we will see who had the highest WOO total as a pitcher and a hitter.
A complete description of the rules can be found HERE.
From October 15th.
ALCS Game 2 and NLCS Game 1:
Receiving 1 WOO’s
Jon Lester allowed 4 hits and 1 run, on a solo homer, over 6 innings. He was pulled, probably too early, and did not get a decision but helped set up the Cubs’ 8-4 win over the Dodgers.
Francisco Lindor collected a pair of hits and drove in the run that put Cleveland up for good, 2-1 over the Blue Jays.
Miguel Montero launched a 2 out, 2 strike bottom of the 8th game tying pinch hit grand slam to give the Cubs a dramatic 8-4 Game 1 victory over Los Angeles.
Josh Tomlin allowed only 3 hits and 1 run over 5 2/3 innings, striking out 6 and giving the Indians a victory in his emergency start over Toronto, 2-1.

The post season has begun with two classic games and a manager blunder for the ages.
Buck Showalter lives by the motto “If you have to go down, go down with your 7th best pitcher!”
Meanwhile I entered a fold in time and space for the Connor Gillaspie homer.

Who Owns October In MLB Playoffs 2016? (#WOO) Tallies Updated For October 4, 2016

Tom Szczerbowski / Getty Images
The playoffs have begun with a doozy. If this is any indication of what October will be like, we are in great shape.
Time to figure out who owns October!
From October 4th. AL Wild Card Game:
Receiving 1 WOO’s
Edwin Encarnacion reached twice and won the Wild Card Game with a 3 run walk off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning, pushing Toronto past Baltimore, 5-2.
Marcus Stroman held Baltimore to 4 hits and 2 runs while walking none over 6 strong innings. He would not get the decision but helped set up the Blue Jays dramatic 5-2 extra inning Wild Card win.
Receiving 1/2 WOO’s
Mark Trumbo launched a 2 run homer that put the Orioles ahead. The Blue Jays would tie the game and ultimately win in 11, 5-2.
Darren O’Day got the call from the pen and answered big time. He threw 1 2/3 innings, not allowing a hit or a base runner with each pitch potentially ending the Orioles season. He survived but his team did not, dropping the game to Toronto, 5-2 in 11.
Current ‘WOO’ Totals MLB 2016:
Hitters ‘WOO’ MLB 2016,
Edwin Encarnacion – Blue Jays 1, Mark Trumbo – Orioles 1/2,
Pitchers ‘WOO’ MLB 2016,
Marcus Stroman – Blue Jays 1, Darren O’Day – Orioles 1/2,
WHO OWNS BASEBALL – The Final Tally for 2016

Mike Zarrilli/Getty Images North America, Leon Halip/Getty Images North America, Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images North America, Rick Yeatts/Getty Images North America
That’s the season and the final tally. Who Owns Baseball is over for the year and these are the four who finished with the highest totals.
FREDDIE FREEMAN edged Nolan Arenado as the National League hitter.
JOSE FERNANDEZ posthumously owned as the National League pitcher, astonishingly 1/2 ahead of Clayton Kershaw.
MIGUEL CABRERA topped Betts and Trout to earn the top total for American League hitters.
COREY KLUBER ran away with the American League pitcher total with Chris Sale a distance second.
Phew. Another year of this tally. Until next year…

The post season is about to begin. And with that comes my futile attempt at predictions. This year, I dutifully made my picks.
I also compared them to simulating the playoffs on WhatIfSports and also by flipping a coin.

Fellow Red Sox fan and comedian/writer/YouTube star Nick Stevens rejoined the podcast to play a fun nostalgic game.
I mentioned each year the Red Sox made the post season that we remember watching and we each said our first memories of that team.
Some memories were silly. Some were poignant. All were honest and from the heart… or from the HAHHHHT in New England.

@sullybaseball your hatred of the Cubs predates Chapman signing with them..What’s the real reason you don’t wanna see them win it all?
— Michael Carpenter (@achmeineye) September 18, 2016
I may not be a Chapman fan but that doesn’t mean I HATE the Cubs. It all has to do with how I PERSONALLY want games to unfold.
Also I give end of the year thoughts on this episode of the Sully Baseball Daily Podcast.
