More Travel Chaos On 217 Game MLB Trip: The Pope Is Coming To Philly

Pope Benedict XVI greets the crowd after delivering his Christmas message “urbi et orbi” (to the city and the world) from the central balcony of St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican Dec. 25. (CNS photo/Paul Haring) (Dec. 25, 2012). He will be bringing his talents to Philadelphia, effectively shutting down traffic in all directions during late September, causing this ballpark chaser to scramble some more.

Chuck Booth’s 2015 MLB Park Historical Road Trip

Here is a new one for the books.. Extra costs and maneuvers needed to be pulled off because The Pope Is Coming to Philly Sept.24 – Sept.27.
The city of Philly will not run busses through downtown like I needed them too.
So instead if weaving around on $1 bus fares on Megabus, I will have to flip cities between New York and Washington instead.
Then the Reds @ Nationals caused me a chance to alter some more plans – since they decided to reschedule a make up game in Washington for Monday, September 28th at 3 pm.

Every time I have been saddled with added expenses – and a chance to cut down my budget, I simply add more games at Camden Yards and Nationals Park.
Meanwhile the Orioles have a 7:05 game just up the Baltimore/Parkway. Add to it that I am sitting on Amtrak dollars, and it costs just $13 between cities, and I am good to add another doubleheader.
This is good because I am taking a doubleheader away from Saturday Sept 5th – originally slated for Yankee Stadium/Nationals Park. I will now not attempt this doubleheader, effectively making it to a sole game at Yankee Stadium instead. I am switching the Sunday Sept 6th game to Yankee Stadium as well – as opposed to Washington – the original design.
It gets better…Since I can’t make it to Philly with the Pope’s visit, I am also switching Sunday Sept.27’s game to Yankee Stadium from Nationals Park.
The original Monday Sept.28th game was to be at PNC Park. Afterwards I was too drive a one way car to Cincinnati, then board a $29 Frontier Flight to Atlanta. At least with the extremely affordable flight cost, I can virtually eat that with gravy on it.
The I couldn’t make it to Cincy was with the Washington/Baltimore doubleheader, and the latter being over 500 Miles away. So the new plan will be to drive from Baltimore to Atlanta following a game sometime during the Nats @ Braves series.
I have the ability to shorten my visit in Atlanta to one game instead of 3 from Sept.29 – Oct.1. I will be watching a game at Turner Field on Thursday Oct 1 no matter what transpires.
I may just want to see one last game at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday Sept.29 versus the Boston Red Sox, then head to Baltimore’s Camden Yards on Wednesday Sept.30th, then blast 700 miles to Atlanta via one of my famous National Car Rental one – way deals.
By waiting to rent a car from BWI airport after a game on Wednesday Sept.30, (whenever I decide to head to Georgia, I can invoke the 24 hour one way rental deal.)
This means a likely move of a 1 am – 1am 24 from Thursday Oct.1, to Friday hour period. This takes away the need for a second car rental.
In the end I will spend $30 more for the switch around, but also save a car rental day. Yeah, and add 2 more games to Camden Yards and several more games to New York’s Yankee Stadium.
Besides I have never driven through the Carolina’s before..Back to buying and selling tickets, bus trips.. etc.. so I must end this post.
With the new schedule, I am in New York City for 4 of the last 5 weekends of the year, and many games during the week in that stretch.
All traces back to the Pope.
