Braves Get Blanked In 8th Straight Loss: 21 Teams Left In 2016 MLB Shutout Survivor + MLB Runs Scoring Survivor Update

The Braves had themselves a bad day as an organization in the District yesterday. Not only the whole Hector Olivera situation, but they fell to 0 – 8, were eliminated from the MLB Shutout Survivor contest, and face Stephen Strasburg today.

So the Braves have 8 straight losses to begin the year (as do the Twins) -but yesterday marked the 1st time they were bageled in those contests. Can either of the Braves or Twins take a run at the 1988 Baltimore Orioles run of 21 straight defeats from the start of a season?
Out of the 9 clubs that been zeroed in the MLB, only 3 have come from the Senior Circuit (Mets, Braves and Padres, but San Diego has seen a donut 4 times on their scoresheet already.)
6 teams have suffered a Shutout in the AL, including the Yankees and Blue Jays – who I thought may have stuck around a long time. Overall shutouts are way down compared to other years.

The Diamondbacks may have started 3 – 6, but have tallied 7 different run totals in their 9 contests, and are just 4 short from completion. Arizona is tied with the Cubs for the overall lead, but Chicago has a game in hand. Tonight’s matchup is critical against division foe Los Angeles. They will be either 4 – 6, with LA at 5 – 5 after this game, or they can fall to 3 – 7, and be far behind the Dodgers and the Giants in the NL West.
The crazy part of the MLB Shutout Survivor contest is that no NL Central team has been blanked yet. On the opposite side of that, all NL West clubs have scored 10 or 10+ in MLB runs scoring survivor.
9 of the 15 National League Clubs have scored 10 or more runs – compared to 3 American League clubs in MLB Runs Scoring Survivor.
The Cubs finally did not tally a new total of their remaining list of variations, and the Arizona Diamondbacks tied them for the MLB lead with 7 so far. The Snakes have the totals of 7, 8, 9 and 0 runs to get in a match. Chicago needs efforts of 0, 1, 3 and 8 runs put forth in their games.
Boston, Texas, Seattle, Oakland, Baltimore, San Francisco and Miami are all sitting at 6 different totals. heading into today’s action, with SF/SEA and BAL having already knocked off the elusive 9 run mark – that is the toughest total to get.
Baltimore finally lost a game to drop to 7 – 1, but they are still alive to win this thing – with needing variations of 0, 1, 7, 8 and 10 or 10+.
Oakland needs all totals between 7 – 10 or 10 and a shutout. That’s tough.
Minnesota still has to be the favorite to end last. Thus far, they have tallied just 13 runs in 8 contests, and yet to have plated 4 runs or more in any game.
The Rays are right there with them in only scoring 3 different numbers in their 8 games.

At the end of this article you can take our polls to vote which club you think will be blanked last (There is also a poll for 1st to win the MLB Runs Scoring Survivor.)
If the clubs tie on the game number, it will be the number of runs allowed that will determine their placing. If still tied, team ERA will be the next tiebreaker.

I am happy to be back at the helm of the MLB Reports, after completing my record 224 Games in the MLB Trip in 2015. It was the 4th time I have seen all 30 MLB Parks since 2008.
During that time away I was fortunate to do 100 Media Interviews and be named the Baseball Blogger Alliance President.
