Who Owned Baseball April 12, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Miguel Cabrera missed the cycle by a triple, reaching base 5 times, homering twice, scoring 3 and driving in 4 as the Tigers out slugged Cleveland, 8-5.

Nathan Karns pitched 7 strong innings, allowing just 2 hits and 1 earned run and earned the 8-5 Rays victory in Miami.

Andrew McCutchen hit a come from behind 3 run homer to give Pittsburgh the lead in the 6th. He added an RBI single in the 9th and helped top Milwaukee 10-2.

Zack Greinke threw 7 shutout innings, letting up just 5 hits and no walks while striking out 7. He won the 7-4 game for the Dodgers in Arizona.

They all owned baseball on April 12, 2015.

A week has come and gone in the majors.  We have a few unbeaten teams but everyone else has at least 1 victory.  The 1988 Baltimore Orioles are thankful for this.

The Tigers did not allow a run in nearly 4 games to start the season, and are linked up at the odd with the Angels and Mariners as the best odds to win the World Series out of the American League.

The top 3 seeds are in the National League.

I am sticking by my prediction of Washington having the best chance to win the World Series, but unlike when I bet cash on them as the favorite before the year started, they are 1 – 4 now, not 0 – 0.

Atlanta has raced out 5 – 0, and the gambling experts don’t believe the hype.

So more than half of the teams have already been ousted after 1 week of play. Of course the unbeaten clubs, Detroit, Kansas City andAtlanta will all be exempt – having unblemished records after 5 games.

4 teams in the AL East remain,  2 in the AL Central, and the 2014 winners of this category are alive – with the LA Angels.

3 teams in the NL East can take this crown, with the Braves, Mets or my favorite, the Washington Nationals taking the whole thing down. The Nats have mustered at least a run per contest, despite a slow 1 – 4 start 

Cincy is the only NL Central club left, and suffered just their 1st loss last night.

Colorado is always a favorite in this competition with playing at Coors Field, so the should be a formidable opponent for everyone else.

Who Owned Baseball April 11, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Jimmy Nelson pitched 7 shutout innings,allowing 2 hits and striking out 9, getting the first win for Milwaukee in 2015, 6-0 over Pittsburgh.

Starlin Castro got 3 hits, including a solo homer, and drove in a pair as the Cubs gave the Rockies their first defeat of the season, 9-5.

Ian Kinsler drove in the go ahead run in the 9th inning. He finished with 4 hits, 3 runs scored, 2 RBI and led to the Tigers 9-6 victory in Cleveland.

Joe Kelly gave an exhausted Red Sox pitching staff a rest after the 19 inning Friday night marathon. He pitched 7 strong innings, allowing a single hit and striking out 8, earning the 8-4 win against the Yankees.

Who Owned Baseball April 10, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Joey Votto homered twice, walked and stole a base in the Reds 8th inning game winning rally to top St. Louis, 5-4.

Brandon Morrow pitched 7 shutout innings, allowing just 4 hits and struck out 7. He did not get the decision but his Padres topped the Giants, 1-0.

Xander Bogaerts got 4 hits, all in extra innings, stole a base, scored the eventual winning run and started the game ending double play that game the Red Sox a dramatic and exhausting 6-5 19 inning victory over the Yankees..

Tommy Milone pitched shutout ball into the 8th, finishing with 7 2/3, 2 hits and 7 strikeouts while allowing no runs helping the Twins to their first win of the year, 6-0 over the White Sox.

Who Owned Baseball April 9, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Matt Harvey dominated the Nationals, striking out 9 and walking 1 and allowing just 4 hits in 6 shutout innings, earning the 6-3 decision for the Mets.

David Wright collected a pair of hits including a back breaking 2 run single and added a run to help the Mets take the game 6-3 and the series in Washington.

Edinson Volquez pitched 8 strong innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 walk and 1 run and beat the White Sox 4-1 and helped the defending AL Champion Royals complete the 3 game sweep.

Xander Bogaerts reached base 4 times including a bases clearing 3 run triple that broke open the game early and helped the Red Sox cruise to a 6-2 win in Philadelphia.

Adrian Gonzalez became the first player in Major League history to hit 5 homers in the first 3 games of the season. He clocked 3 solo shots and added an RBI single, leading the Dodgers to a 7-4 win against San Diego.

Jose Iglesias reached base 5 times, scored 3 runs and doubled, helping the Tigers thrash the Twins, 11-0.

Jake Arrieta won a tight pitchers duel against St. Louis, tossing 7 shutout innings, allowing just 3 hits and while striking out 7 as the Cubs got their first victory, 2–0.

Scott Kazmir allowed a hit to the lead off batter and didn’t give up another one. He finished with 7 shutout innings, 1 hit, 2 walks and 10 strikeouts, earning the 10-0 decision against the Rangers in Oakland.

Who Owned Baseball April 7, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

C. J. Wilson pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and a single walk as he got the 2-0 decision for the Angels in Seattle.

Steve Pearce clocked a 2 run homer, collected another hit and scored a pair, helping the Orioles run up an early lead and survive a Tampa Bay comeback attempt with a 6-5 victory.

Freddie Freeman went 3-5 with a pair of doubles, 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, helping the undefeated Braves clobber the Marlins 12-2.

Tyson Ross pitched 6 solid innings, allowing the Padres to stay in the game before their game winning 9th inning rally at Dodger Stadium for a 7-3 final.

Game #3 Cancelled For 183 in 2015.

This post wont come with any pictures or blurbs about stats.  I only found the game was going to be cancelled today about 3:30.  I have been traveling over 3500 Miles since leaving Canada on Thursday.

If this were a short streak,I would have run to the nearest National Car Rental and gunned it to Milwaukee.  Here is the thing.  Is this any different than what a player goes through?

It would have been nice to keep the streak alive for another day, but with being on the east for the 1st 2 months, I fully expect another weather cancellation coming down the pike soon.

One has to look at finances some times, and really decide if it is worth it.

Also is the fact I haven’t slept in a bed in nearly a week, and have 4 doubleheaders scheduled in the next 5 days.

Yesterday also gave me one of the toughest days of ballpark chasing either, testing both my mental psyche and patience.

I made it to the ballpark still today.  Whether it was cancelled due to weather or lack of plumbing, we may never find out..

The game will be listed officially as a cancel for me.  I highly doubt to see the makeup game either.  I am only happy that Miller Park has a roof on it for the second part of the day tomorrow.

Nake Laloosh put it best in Bull Durham, stating:  “sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes it rains..

Maybe the Cubs are joining the fraternity with the A’s for severe plumbing problems. At least they could say they are renovating.

Which brings me to something funny that just made me laugh about baseball…

I remember an interview someone did with John Kruk (might have been Rob Dibble) and he asked him about players naming their kids weird names about the same time David Wright named his kid SHEA.  To which he replied “I definitely wouldn’t name my kid Plumbers.”  Fantastic bit from him and almost as funny as him saying “I am going to take my ball, and go home” after losing one to testicular something.  Of course whenever you think of Kruk, the AB vs Randy Johnson in the ALL-Star Game still has me bellowing in laughter.

With that.  I can catch up on some much-needed rest, and hit the ground running for the whole rest of the year.  We are still putting a number on the board for Games Viewed, that will be historic!

MLB Shutout Survivor 2015:  Which Team Do You Have Last To Be Blanked This Year?

Last Year the D’Backs, A’s, Braves and  Cubs were the 1st teams to be blanked before March was even over.  To their credit, Arizona was in their 3rd game while the others were in their season openers.

Last night, 5 teams took the bagel, and are officially out.  Milwaukee had the worst loss at 10 – 0, and therefore finish in dead last for this competition.

Also gone are the Phillies and Rangers who took 8 – 0 losses.  Ironically these 2 clubs both faced each other during last years opening day series, and they had the highest scoring contests of day 1.

The Twins did not score a run against David Price for their 1st game skipper Paul Molitor in a 4 – 0 loss, and the Indians couldn’t solve Dallas Keuchel and the Astros to plate a guy either.  And then there were 24 teams left..

This should turn out to be quite fun.  A lot of gambling establishments have this sort of deal, and it will be fun to see the results.

What Runs Survivor is, a MLB team scoring 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, 10 or (10+) in different games throughout the course of the season.

Once a club has one of these run totals once, you cross it off and keep going until they complete the 11 different variations.  As the runs come in on a daily basis, we will keep erasing the numbers beside the team until the last team wins.  The Yankees lost the for the year, finishing much after August had started.  An obvious blight on their offense last year.

Last year the Giants were the 1st team to complete the 11 variation trek, so maybe their is a method to our madness after all.  The 1st AL club to do the 11 run totals were the Tampa Bay Rays. Who do you have to complete all 11 1st in 2015? Read the rest of this entry

Who Owned Baseball April 6, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

In an opening day filled with terrific pitching performances, Sonny Gray shone brightest, taking a no hitter into the 8th inning and finishing with 8 innings of shutout ball allowing 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 hit batsman while striking out 3 as the A’s rolled over Texas 8-0.

Hanley Ramirez reached base 3 times including a grand slam and a solo shot, driving in 5 and helping the Red Sox cruise to an 8-0 win in Philadelphia.

Johnny Cueto pitched 7 shutout innings, allowing 4 hits, 1 walk and striking out 10. The bullpen would blow his lead but the Reds would beat the Pirates 5-2.

Jimmy Rollins reached base 3 times, stole a base and hit a go ahead 3 run homer in the 8th inning to give the Dodgers a come from behind 6-3 win in their opener against the Padres.

They all owned baseball on April 5, 2015.

Who Owned Baseball April 5, 2015 (Daily AL/NL Pitcher + Hitter MVP’s) + 2015 #WOB Standings

Jason Heyward went 3-5 with a pair of doubles and scored the first of the Cardinals 3 runs as they won the opener in Chicago, 3-0.

Adam Wainwright pitched 6 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits, no walks and 6 strikeouts, earning the 3-0 opening night win for the Cardinals over the Cubs.

They all owned baseball on April 5, 2015.
