Every MLB ASG Going Fwd Should Have A Tribute To Those Fallen In Previous Year: A Comment On Sully Baseball’s Blog

Paul Sullivan’s   brilliant tribute video – They should hire him to do one of these every year!

MLB Reports Lead Personality ‘Sully’ did a fantastic job of writing an article about the way FOX did not give any acknowledgement towards Tony Gwynn during Tuesday’s ALL – Star Game on a post for his own website. I was going to write a similar article, but he nailed it perfectly, and you should read it here

My 2 cents:

The MLB has had several baseball men die in the last year:  Ralph Kiner, Tony Gwynn, Bob Welch, Don Zimmer, Jim Fregosi, Jerry Coleman, and former executive (MLBPA president) Michael Weiner.

I think it would be a great job by baseball – if they were to add a segment to the ALL – Star Game, in which they pay homage to the heroes of yesteryear.

No other sport has the kind of historical significance of Major League Baseball, and I often give them full credit for all of the work they do in promoting their pioneers.

Again, this is just to offer something that might develop some traction.

The MidSummer Classic is the perfect avenue to carry out this kind of plateau.  All of the eyes of baseball fans are set on the game.

Fans of teams are all still paying attention for the most part up until now.  This is the only sport going of the major sports leagues.

The NFL is not dominating the sports landscape like it does in September and October.

I know the game is already long enough with pitching changes, positional changes and all other facets that have increased game times.

A nice 6 or 7 minute presentation on the scoreboard of the ALL – Star Park host would be a great way for the fans to pay their respects – and send a final  send off to the guys.

It will also help touch the young people in the audience everywhere on the players – and influential figures that make baseball the greatest game on earth today.
