Lisa Swan of Subway Squawkers joined The Sully Baseball Daily Podcast today to talk Biogenesis, A-Rod and Bud Selig.

She may be a Yankee fan and I may be a Red Sox fan, but we agree on a lot on this subject.

Zack Grienke, Brandon Belt, Jeremy Guthrie and Alex Avila (NOT Rodriguez) all owned baseball on August 5, 2013.

The Humidor Effect On Baseballs At Coors Field: 11 Years In

Tuesday Aug.06/2013

Since the Humidor room has been put into use at Coors Field, Team batting averages have dropped 8-10% and HRs have dropped 20-25% yearly.  The Rockies still have routinely finished in the top 7 in all offensive categories for every year since 2002.  This year, they lead MLB in every offensive category.

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst/Website Owner):

In the first 10 years of Coors Field, or the Rockies existence for that matter, the baseballs were being belted out of the park at a historically record rate.

Some of this was due to the steroid era.  Most of it was arrived at by the dry air of Colorado.

The reason is simple, in dry air the ball travels further than in thin air, thus causing more frequent home runs.

Just two years ago, Marlins SP Jose Fernandez was pitching for Alonso HS in Tampa, Florida. His story of how he came to the United States is absolutely astonishing and incredible as he defected from Cuba via boat , and then ultimately was part of a rescue effort in the water to save his mom's life, when she fell overboard in 2008 as a teenager. He is 20 years old now, and one of the premier Starting Pitchers in the NL

Sam Evans ( Baseball Writer and Marlins, Mariners Correspondent):

Even though the trade deadline has already passed, it’s always interesting to evaluate pitchers based on their trade value.

Using age, experience, potential, contract, and reputation as guidelines, I ranked the current Miami Marlins starting rotation.

Tom Koehler, Jose Fernandez, Henderson Alvarez, Nate Eovaldi, and Jacob Turner are the Marlins starting five and Miami has no real reason to trade any of them in the near future.

However, if they were to consider trading one of these pitchers, here’s how I feel other teams would rank these pitchers’ trade values.

Alex Avila stunned the Cleveland crowd with a 3 run 9th inning home run that turned a 2-1 hole into a 4-2 lead that the Tigers would not relinquish.

Jeremy Guthrie threw a complete game shutout, holding the Twins to 4 hits as the Royals crushed Minnesota, 13-0.

Brandon Belt got on base 4 times with a walk and three hits, scoring twice, leading the Giants to a 4-2 victory over the Brewers.

Zack Greinke recovered from a shaky first inning to pitch into the 7th inning on the road in St. Louis, allowing only 2 runs. He drove in a run with a single and extended the Dodgers road winning streak to 15 with the 3-2 win.

They all owned baseball on August 5, 2013.
