Thursday July 5th, 2012
John Burns: On July8th 2012, the 14th annual MLB All-Star Futures Game will be held at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
For those who do not know about the Futures Game, it is where a team of minor league baseball prospects from the United States and a team of prospects from other countries in the World compete against each other in a 9-inning exhibition game. The rosters for both teams are picked by Baseball America and all 30 teams must have at least one representative.
Here are some highly regarded names of players that will be playing in this year’s Futures Game: Dylan Bundy (BAL), Manny Machado (BAL), Billy Hamilton (CIN), Nick Castellanos (DET), Wil Myers (KC), Zack Wheeler (NYM), Gerrit Cole (PIT), Jameson Taillon (PIT), Danny Hultzen (SEA), Enny Romero (TB), and Anthony Gose (TOR).
Nine first-round picks from the 2011 Draft will be in Kansas City for the Futures Game. The Dominican Republic is represented by eight players, followed by Venezuela (six), Cuba (two) and Puerto Rico (two). There are also some players representing Aruba, Canada, Curacao, England, Panama, Taiwan and South Korea.
The past 2 seasons, the US have won the Futures Game. The futures game rosters are filled with great potential and talent. Last year, Bryce Harper and Mike Trout were playing in this game and now Trout is on his way to the All-Star game. The rosters in the past for the Futures Game were also filled with great talent that ended up having successful MLB careers. The list of players that played in previous Future Games is filled with All-Stars and MVP’s.
Some predictions for this year’s Futures Game are that Many Machado, the shortstop from Baltimore’s organization, will win the MVP and the WORLD team will beat the U.S. by a final score of 7-3.
The game will begin at 5:00 p.m. (ET)/4:00 p.m. (CT) and can be viewed live on ESPN2, ESPN2 HD and MLB.TV on July 8th. Everyone make sure to watch: you will be watching the future superstars of the MLB.
