Stephen Strasburg improved to 13-0 with an 8 inning, 1 run, 3 hit performance to lead Washington past Pittsburgh 5-1.
Chris Taylor went 3 for 5 with a homer and 6 RBI as the Dodgers took a 13-7 slugfest in Arizona.
Hector Santiago threw 7 shutout innings, allowing 5 hits and struck out 7 White Sox in the 7-0 Angels win.
Stephen Vogt got 3 hits including a homer as the A’s hung on against Toronto, 8-7.

For Whatever League Wins The 2016 ALL – Star Game: Chances Are Home Field Wont Matter In The World Series Because Of The Dumb 2 – 3 – 2 Format
Chances are that whichever League wins this game tonight will actually plays less games at home in the World Series, as a 5 games Fall Classic is more likely to happen, than a 7 game set in the World Series.

Yeah I said it… and fully mean it. This is my annual gripe of how the ALL – Star Game winner will likely not play more games at their home park because of the 2 – 3 – 2 format. I am sure that a lot of people hate the fact the Midsummer Classic even determines home field advantage.
I actually don’t think the game meaning something is a bad idea. I guess no one remembers that drab games we suffered from about 1995 – 2002 – where more players would exit the game and hop on a pending flight, than actually stayed?
For the most part, the MLB has made nice changes to the ALL – Star Game. Having the fans only vote on the starters, the players on the reserves, with the managers picking their pitchers. I also like that Catchers can reenter the contest.
As for the league winner of this game and home field advantage for the Fall Classic. You are way more likely to a series go 5 games as opposed to 7. It also baffles me how the team with a home field advantage for a series ever trails in games played at their venue. There will be another follow up article near the playoffs in pertaining to this article.
The MLB should use a 3 – 3 – 1 format instead of the 2 – 3 – 2 as a counter, for this would be ideal to clone what clubs go through in the regular season. Series of 3 are perfect. I understand it is too hard with travel, to use the best series setup of 2 – 2 – 1 – 1 – 1. Read the rest of this entry
Please San Diego, Use Ron Burgundy As Part Of The 2016 MLB ALL – Star Game Festivities!!

I couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the Mid-Summer Classic in 2016 by having Ron Burgundy be front and center at Petco Park. Hand him a microphone, and let him address the stands by saying “Stay Classy San Diego” . He couldn’t really say what he said at the lookout point in Anchorman “something about the meaning of San Diego”, but it would be awesome if he said ‘drink it up, it always goes down smooth.’
In a world where we have already seen a ton of cross promotion with celebrities and sporting events, this would be ideal. Will Ferrell (the man who plays Ron Burgundy) already suited up for 10 different teams in 2015 Spring Training, and toted the position of 10 different spots in the lineup, so this is a total no-brainer.
Burgundy is about as 100% sure thing there is for marketing campaigns. In the year following the Dodge Durango commercials featuring him, sales escalated 410% for the vehicle.
Let him throw out the 1st pitch, do interviews during the Home Run Derby, or help Chris Berman out with some strong color commentary. Heck. even bring the whole gang from Anchorman Channel 4 News team, but at least have him there. So as a fan of the character and actor, and for the betterment of humanity and baseball community, make this happen San Diego!
San Diego Padres State Of The Union For 2016
It was a disastrous plan from the beginning, and now the 2014 winter is causing the 2015 offseason to play out different. The NL West has also seen the Giants and Diamondbacks beef up their Rosters while San Diego has lost their top 3 Bullpen arms. This squad will have a tough time avoiding 100 Losses in the 2016 season in my view. The saving grace is they can trade every Veteran player they can and start building up the club for 3 – 4 more years down the road.

It certainly is a different feel to the winter of the Padres in the 2015 offseason than it was the 2014 Season. I never bought into the premise of how A.J. Preller built the team last year.
It was one of the easiest over/under wagers of the year. It ended in the club losing more games than they did the previous year – despite running a higher payroll.
The franchise loses Justin Upton to Free Agency, and have traded or lost their top 3 Relievers in Craig Kimbrel, Joaquin Benoit and Shawn Kelley.
Preller has also made a few questionable moves in acquiring Jon Jay for one year – and giving up on Jedd Gyorko. In my view, this is a weird move.
In an Infield that is already lacking power, this latest move furthers the need to bring in more hitters. Read the rest of this entry

MLB Baseball Clubs Should Make Single Game Tickets Available Before Christmas
The home site of the 2016 MLB ALL – Star Game, Petco Park..Baseball owners, and the MLB alike, should really think about having tickets made available for purchase prior to the Christmas season every year. Both of the NBA and NHL have free reign on this concept, with their season’s barely being midway yet in each calendar year at the end of December. The supply and demand for NFL tickets only reaches 8 games, and is never in question whether most stadiums will have good turnouts. You would think that kids especially, with love to receive game tickets as gifts on Christmas morning Instead, all that is available are gift certificates at this point in the year.

First off, the MLB has done a great job in posting their following year schedules earlier each consecutive year over the last half-dozen or so.
I give these guys full marks for that. It also looks like they are improving their coverage of each team, to include more splits in each of the 30 squad’s itineraries.
I still wish they would follow the NHL (god did I just say that), in providing better splits for their 2430 Games Master Schedule, to include 7 day splits (you can go to ESPN.com for those), monthly splits and finally one year-long page on a post.
In 2014, I did all of the schedules I just mentioned, and even added an Interleague Master Schedule. In 2016, I have already put out the American League vs National League schedule here.
It has been quite the undertaking, but I am doing all facets of it again – going forward in 2016 after just putting out the Interleague Master Schedule in 2015 because I was on the road the whole year. Read the rest of this entry
