“Stoking The Fire” Weekly Segment – Week 1: Managers Situation Of The MLB For All 30 Clubs

Ozzie Guillen is a smart manager that deflects the media in his direction when the club is struggling and praised their efforts when doing well. With 20% of the players having already played for him last year, he would have a smooth transition. His Manager style is better suited for the American League. A team should give this guy a chance to manage once again

Ozzie Guillen is a smart manager that deflects the media in his direction when the club is struggling and praised their efforts when doing well. With 20% of the players having already played for him in Miami of 2012, he would have a smooth transition as the bench boss in Toronto. With national media following around the club, in the country of Canada, he is the best choice! His Manager style is better suited for the American League anyway. If the Jays don’t hire him, another team should give this guy a chance to manage once again.

Hunter Stokes (Featured Baseball Columnist):

It is that time of year where all the coaches who are not playing the game of baseball still, should wonder whether or not they still have a job.

Well, honestly, the coaching carousel should definitely add a few victims to the list.

For the love of god too, stop talking about Don Mattingly as a bad coach. Last time I checked, dude is still in the Post Season.

John Gibbons has to be on a list of Managers that are on the early season hot seat in 2015. The Jays will have a short window to compete for the AL East title. They should really think twice about even entering the year with him.

John Gibbons has to be on a list of Managers that are on the early season hot seat in 2015. The Jays will have a short window to compete for the AL East title. They should really think twice about even entering the year with him.

I am not just saying that because my new favorite team is the Dodgers (Since they have Brian Wilson).

Lets go through all of the teams quickly and see if they make it through or not.

Yankees:  Joe Girardi – Good manager, and anyone who can manage better with less should be commended.  New York had more injuries this year, than a soccer team fakes in a Premiere League Game.

Red Sox:  John Farrell.  Way to go Blue Jays, letting go of a manager, and then trading a great Catcher in Yan Gomes, and an Infielder like Mike Aviles for Esmil (don’t own hitters) Rogers.

Blue Jays:  John Gibbons.  Ya, hire a mediocre manager for a 2nd tour of duty with the club, that will end well.  That guy should have been hammering on these players for all of the fundamentals from day one, instead of being everyone’s favorite uncle.

They should fire this guy immediately…You can’t change the team, but you can change the culture.

Orioles:  Buck Showalter:  Someone better check the expiration clock on his time with the team.  Usually he melts down in year 3 or 4….He will be gone by 2015 is my prediction.

Rays:  Joe Maddon..  130 Games over .500 in the last 6 years.  That man can teach.

Tigers:  Jim Leyland.. Is there a classier guy in the Majors managing a team right now>  I think the man lives off of stale donuts, coffee and lung darts!

Royals:  Ned Yost.  Hopefully for him, the Royals will put all of their chips in the middle of the table – and go for it – while they still have James Shields.

Indians:  Terry Francona.  This manager knows to put the gauntlet down for his team to pounce on the lesser lites of the league.

White Sox:  Robin Ventura.  Does he even want to manage?  It maybe time for him to step down..Hey Jerry Reinsdorf…how bad is Ozzie Guillen now as a field general?

Twins:  Ron Gardenhire.  2 managers in the last 27 years.  HMM.  Not his fault the team hasn’t had a great pitcher since Francisco Liriano and Johan Santana.  1 more year, and if he loses 90 games again, sorry pal.

Mariners:  Thank goodness Eric Wedge is not coming back.  Good hire would be Tim Wallach or Chip Hale.. Do not hire Manny Acta!!

Angels:  Mike Scioscia.  Why you shouldn’t have the owner such good friends with the Coach.  Here or Jerry DiPoto should have been axed for the 2013 fiasco.

Athletics.  Bob Melvin.  With the best record in baseball since the start  of the 2012 season, he stays…

Rangers:  Ron Washington.  They lost Josh Hamilton, Mike Napoli and Nelson Cruz sunk the ship with his 50 Game suspension, and they still won 90 games.  Might have been his best job ever as a skipper.

Astros:  Bo Porter.  Yep…just keeping the seat warm for another year or so..The Houston team will pick from a manager currently with another team now.

Braves:  Fredi Gonzalez.  One more playoff failure and it has to be curtains.  This team needs to get that monkey off of their back.

Nationals.  This is a prime job for somebody to take over.  If they play to their capability in the next few years, YODA could coach the team, and they will win.  Matt Williams would be a good choice.

Mets:  Terry Collins.  He will be fired about 20 games into next year, when they don’t have Matt Harvey, and Ike Davis has already struckout 50 times.  Wally Backman is perfect for this job – and he is in your system as a manager already.

Then he should bring back all of the 1986 Mets to scare all of the current players into playing better or else!

Marlins:  Just give it about 10 games and Jeffrey Loria will fire the coach, and replace him with another former Marlin..  I hear Ugueth Urbina just got out of jail.

Philadelphia.  Ryne Sandberg..Way to go Chicago, this guy could have been managing your club for you, and instead you are looking for a new bench boss.

Cubs:  Here’s an idea, how about hiring a coach from another team who had a pedigree of winning.  Dave Martinez of the Rays must have learned something from Joe Maddon, (and is an ex-Cubbie himself).

If you hire Manny Acta, the Back to the Future prediction will be wrong.  (you know in 2015, the Cubs will win the World Series vs Miami..)

Either him or Sandy Alomar Jr. is a no – brainer.

Funny that those teams met in the 2003 NLCS , about 15 years after the movie was made – and Bartman ruined life for the Wrigley faithful.

Brewers:  Ron Roenicke.  From 96 wins and an NLCS appearance in 2011, to 83 wins in 2012, and 74 in 2013.  However, kept his job because Ryan Braun was suspended for the rest of the 2013 year.

They lost Prince Fielder, Zack Greinke and Shaun Marcum, and replaced a bunch of Pitchers.  with St. Louis, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh in your Division, might as well not fire Roenicke after next year either.

Reds:  Vacant:  Paul O’Neill was a great player, but if they were going to hire a former Red, why not approach Rob Dibble?

Hey Guys, how about Bob Brenly? Guy was great for the 1st 3 years in Arizona.  But he would have to opt out of his 5 year broadcasting gig for Arizona.

Sandy Alomar Jr. would be perfect as well.

Pirates:  Clint Hurdle.  He is a NL Manager of The Year candidate.  He will earn his keep in the next few years when expectations are raised.

Cardinals.  Mike Matheny.  2 years and 2 NLCS trips.  He will be there for a long time with that talent.

Giants:  Bruce Bochy.  Probably the best manager in the game.  Winning 2 World Series should buy you a decade…Just ask Mike. S of the Los Angeles County of Anaheim California Angels.

Dodgers:  Don Mattingly:  The Dodgers should really think about extending him before he bounces out of there for more money.  He is an Indiana native after all.  Maybe he would coach the Reds or Nationals if they offered him more jack!

Padres:  Bud Black:  Poor guy is a great manager and has a team with no chance at all to win.  He stays until the Angels job opens up from Scioscia.

Rockies:  Walt Weiss:  You know the team played okay down the stretch for him…

DBacks:  Kirk Gibson:  He is a great coach, and his team will always be scrappy…

Alomar Jr. should be coaching in the Major Leagues soon, He is an ex - Catcher - and just spent a full year of witnessing Terry Francona coach a team

Alomar Jr. should be coaching in the Major Leagues soon, He is an ex – Catcher – and just spent a full year of witnessing Terry Francona coach a team.  It is rumored that he may be headed to Chicago or Cincinnati.  These would both be good destinations for the guy.  He should bring his brother Robbie onto the coaching staff and teach either team how to be clutch.  Great Baseball family.
