The Long Ball Last Night: Encarnacion Bombing Jacks + Gonzalez’s 3rd 3 GM+ HR Streak In 2014
For your viewing pleasure, we have separated the 3 columns we have been tracking at the MLB Reports into subpages on our site.
We have the parent page of the 2014 HR leaders in the AL and NL,
the 1st subpage is the Multi HR Games, and the 2nd subpage is HR consecutive streaks.
1 time per week we will write a detailed article, and post the 2014 results thus far. You can simply bookmark the pages to check the standings daily.
2014’s top 5 HRs, AL/NL Here
2014’s Multi HR Games Here
2014’s HR Streaks Here
Each day, we will do an article on the changes of the leaderboard. This means movement in the top 5 of each league, a multi HR game from the night before, and any active HR streaks heading into the day’s action.
Last night was another incredible night for Edwin Encarnacion. He went off for his second Multi HR game in a row (4th in 13 games), 11th HR in May.
It also represented the 2nd time this month EE has hit Homers in 3 straight games. Encarnacion moved into a tie for 3rd in the AL, with Albert Pujols, who also went yard WED night.
Adrian Gonzalez hit a Tater Trot for his 3rd straight game, and pulled into a 3 way tie for the HR race in the NL with Giancarlo Stanton and Justin Upton.
Carlos Gomez and Yasiel Puig hit HRs to tie Mike Morse for 5th in the NL with 10 HRs.
Victor Martinez hit a RoundTripper to take sole possession of 5th place in the AL HR race, behind the duo of Pujols and Encarnacion.
Nelson Cruz moved into sole possession of 2nd place, by hitting a HR for his 2nd straight contest. It was his 14th HR of the year, and moved only 1 behind Jose Abreu (currently on the DL).
Two Tigers have hit jacks in consecutive games, with Alex Avila and J.D. Martinez both dialing long distance.
The Indians saw David Murphy hit a HR for his 2nd straight game too.
The last 3 guys came out of the Indians/Tigers series.
Nelson Cruz continues to be the bargain of the year, with his 4th HR streak of the year, and 14 now on the year.
Will Gonzalez and/or Encarnacion push it to 4 in a row? A-Gon already has a 4 game HR streak this year, and last night also put forth his 2nd 3 game HR streak, talking about streaking.
Justin Upton failed to reach 4 games with a HR last night.
So far in 2014, Mark Trumbo, Gonzalez and Melky Cabrera are the only players to hit HRs in 4 straight
