As I said before yesterday, the schedule maker was very kind to those looking to pursue records for ballpark chasing this season.  I was hoping to have the option.  Now it is a possibility.

From June 15th to July 9th, there is s schedule that lends itself to 30 games in 25 days (all by ground). I can honestly see this kind of itinerary is rare,  How much?  Well it is the first docket like this in 7 years, since Josh Robbins nailed all 30 MLB Parks in 26 days.

The all ground record is impressive.  Josh made 4 Doubleheaders (including 3 straight in a row to end his streak), to make a 30 – 26 record happen.

He traveled 15,000 Miles in 26 Days.  This potential record streak would add 5,000 Miles to the bid.  The doubleheaders listed are:  Petco Park/Angel Stadium, Progressive Field/PNC Park, Us Cellular Field/Wrigley Field, Citi Field/Citizens Bank Park, and Great American Ballpark and Busch Stadium (the hardest of them all to complete, with 354 Miles between venue’s.

There is even a special 6 doubleheader attempt listed, although it is a tough negotiation, and would nor shave off a day off the chase, rather it would give a rest day.  There are about 4 different 1000+ Mile journey’s between the parks.

Since the MLB decided to have a full week of all teams having a 2 games at home and 2 away vs an interleague opponent, the week before and that 4 day stretch has plenty of matinees for what would be getaway days..

Lending itself to a great mark like this is a National Gas Average of about $2.00 a Gallon right now.  Forecasters are predicting a $2.50 Gallon at the height of summer.

If you were to average about 35 MPG for any rental car, that would be about 550 Gallons purchased at that clip, and you would spend about $1500 only on fuel.  Chances are the parking and tolls fee’s would cost you just as much on a trek like this.

This land record needs various factors to come in perfectly just to have streak possible.  You need several matinee’s in the West Coast, and in getaway days when you have those big drives between parks.

Not to mention all 5 California clubs, the Seattle squad, Arizona and Colorado have to line up swiftly in about a week’s worth of contests.  It happened just like that thanks to the Interleague schedule of June 15th to June 18th.

As Part of the Doubleheaders, a miss by the Cardinals doubleheader with Cincy. wouldn’t kill, because prior to the streak, there will be a retroactive game at Busch Stadium on June 14th Sunday game. This will be followed by a 2054 Mile jaunt, in 28 hours straight of driving, to make it to AT @ T Park by 7:15 Monday night.  The July 1 contest in St. Louis could be reverted back to this game as game #1, and thus the streak would be 30 – 26.

The Petco Park and Angel Stadium Doubleheader is a mandatory hit or it is over.  You simply can’t make up the game anywhere else.  The Doubleheader at Citi Field and Citizens Bank Park is also a must, with the Phillies not playing before the ALL – Star Break after July.2.

If the PNC Park game is not makeable for extra innings or weather from Cleveland, PNC Park hosts a game after the streak ends in the Bronx, and could be made up July.10th for a 30/26.

If for some strange reason, the US Cellular Field and Wrigley Field doesn’t happen, the Cubs also play on June 10th vs the White Sox.  The Yankees game also ends at 1:05 on the day before – giving ample time to make the next game in Chicago.

The craziest occurrence will be when the game is over at PNC Park, and there is a 1240 Mile Drive to Globe Life Park in Arlington, and the kicker is that the game starts at 1:05.  You would have to make up 30 minutes to what the Google Maps has listed for the time elapsed for the trip.

The caveat is that just when you enter the State of Texas, you could just head south to Minute Maid Park, if 1st pitch doesn’t look possible at the Rangers home park.  the Astros play the same day at 7:05.

Now, the Texas miss would cause a ripple effect of 10 games being moved, but a 30 – 25 trip would still be possible.  It would just create chaos.  Now if the Texas game is made, there is an outside change, you could make it to Minute Maid Park (if the Rangers game is 2 Hours and 30 Minutes or shorter).  Not probable, but the real date for Houston is the next day anyway.

About chuckbooth3023

I played competitive baseball until 18 years old and had offers to play NCAA Division 1 University Baseball at Liberty University. Post-concussion symptoms from previous football and baseball head injuries forced me to retire by age 19. After two nearly made World Record Attempts in 2008, I set a New World Record by visiting all 30 MLB Parks (from 1st to last pitch) in only 24 Calendar Days in the summer 0f 2009. In April of 2012, I established yet another new GWR by visiting all 30 Parks in only 23 Calendar Days! You can see the full schedule at the page of the www.mlbreports.com/gwr-tracker . In 2015, I watched 224 MLB Games, spanning all 30 MLB Parks in 183 Days. Read about that World Record Journey at https://mlbreports.com/183in2015/229sked2015/
