Looking Back At Some Of The Highlights From The Marlins 2013 Season

The Marlins season has gone as planned, in the sense that they have been absolutely terrible; however, that’s not to say there haven’t been some memorable highlights and played some tremendous games.

No matter how bad anyone thought the Marlins would be at the start of the season, things have managed to turn out worse.
With proven players like Giancarlo Stanton and Logan Morrison failing to perform at the levels they are capable of and the organization starting a laughable infield for the majority of the season, 2013 has been one of the worst seasons in franchise history.
However, that’s not to say there haven’t been memorable, enjoyable, and even unforgettable Miami games and performances that have taken place in the 2013 regular season.
Here’s a look at the few unforgettable games and bright young names that will be remembered in years to come.
Marlins Outlast Mets in 20-innings

Christian Yelich has been one of the few players worth watching on the Marlins roster since he got called up a few months ago.
Let’s take a look at some of the more memorable ballgames from this club’s campaign:
Jose Fernandez‘s Major League debut on the first Sunday in September at Citi Field was something that many Marlins fans will never forget.
Fernandez’s eight strikeouts in five scoreless innings suddenly gave everyone a reason to watch at least one in five Marlins games.
Even though the bullpen ended up blowing Fernandez’s win, the game had to be one of the highlights for the entire season just due to the feeling of excitement in the air.
The other unforgettable game from the Marlins this season would have to be their 20 inning victory against the Mets on June 7th once again at Citi Field. Adeiny Hechavarria‘s RBI single in the 20th was the key factor in the longest MLB game in over three years.
Obviously, the top surprise of the Marlins 2013 season has been the outstanding season of 21-year-old Jose Fernandez. Fernandez came into the season with many doubts surrounding his ability to be effective against big league hitting, more or less do it over and over again.
Although, his 28 starts with a 2.19 ERA have easily vaulted him into the conversation for N.L. Rookie of the Year.
As for other players with positively surprising seasons, there really aren’t any. No player on the 2013 squad has been consistent or productive enough to deserve any attention for having a breakout season.
This is one of many reasons that the Marlins are having one of the worst seasons in franchise history.
To be honest, there really aren’t that many highlights from the 2013 year. That seems crazy considering that the season lasts 162 games, but the team have been downright awful and unwatchable for the majority of the season.
For example, the longest winning streak the club has had this season? Three.
The Marlins have been 35.5 games out of first place in the N.L. East and forty-two games under .500 at one point or another this year.
This season has been downright disgusting in terms of what kind of roster the club’s front office has put on the field and there can’t be more than a couple crazy people who can’t wait for it to be over.
The good news is that the franchises future looks bright and that a lot of new, talented players should be able to help turn things around in Miami in 2014 and for years to come.

The Mets and the Marlins 20-inning duel was the longest MLB game of the season, lasting six and a half hours, or roughly one-third of Ted Cruz’s speech at the senate floor on Wednesday. The fans were certainly happy to have a new ballpark during that kind of marathon
