Ryan Wagner was called ‘Thickish’ by Baseball Tonight’s Mitch Williams and the nickname stuck. Wagner is currently the PA announcer for the Baltimore Orioles.

In 2011, Ryan Wagner and Mike O ‘Hara were part of the 1st season of the MLB Fancave.  As part of their introduction to ESPN, Mitch Williams interviewed Ryan Wagner – and called him ‘Thickish’.

he nickname stuck with the cave dweller for the whole season.  I went as far to help the cause by taking up the cause at Safeco Field.  It was a funny part of the year.

The Social Media frenzy that the MLB Fancave came up with was a fantastic concept.  Through the interaction with Mike and Ryan, I actually met Jonathan Hacohen (Founder of the MLB Reports) – and we started talking baseball.

A year and a half later, I ended up agreeing to purchase the website.

a thickish nation

I put together this list of 100 Random ‘Thickish Ball Players’ from 1986 – 2011.  I had it on my former website – and thought it would be fun to talk a walk down memory lane.

1.      Tom Brunansky

2.      Pablo Sandoval

3.      Kent Hrbek

4.      Cecil Fielder

5.      Prince Fielder

Prince Fielder will turn 29 in May. Throughout my studies of some extremely tall - or heavy player, the time of deterioration in ones ability seems to seep in about 34. In my opinion, the club should move to trade Victor Martinez and shift Fielder over to the DH position ASAP, so they can preserve his body for the next 8 years of his contract. He will be 37 when his big deal ends. Fielder has a Career 3 Slash Line of .287/.393/.931

6.      Steve Balboni

7.      Kevin Mitchell (post 1993)

8.      Benny Agbayani

9.      Darrell Evans

10.Cliff Johnson

11. Bartolo Colon

Bartolo Colon was 10-9 with a 3.43 ERA for the year before being suspended for PED use. Beane has risked 3 Million Dollars on a 1 YR Deal for the 38 year old. How much will he give the A's in 2013? Photo Courtesy of ESPN.com

About chuckbooth3023

I played competitive baseball until 18 years old and had offers to play NCAA Division 1 University Baseball at Liberty University. Post-concussion symptoms from previous football and baseball head injuries forced me to retire by age 19. After two nearly made World Record Attempts in 2008, I set a New World Record by visiting all 30 MLB Parks (from 1st to last pitch) in only 24 Calendar Days in the summer 0f 2009. In April of 2012, I established yet another new GWR by visiting all 30 Parks in only 23 Calendar Days! You can see the full schedule at the page of the www.mlbreports.com/gwr-tracker . In 2015, I watched 224 MLB Games, spanning all 30 MLB Parks in 183 Days. Read about that World Record Journey at https://mlbreports.com/183in2015/229sked2015/
