Texas, You Are Dreaming If You Think The Current Starting Rotation Will Be Good Enough In 2016!

I am quite perplexed on the thought process of the Texas Rangers this offseason. I mean, talk about resting on your laurel’s fellas!
This club was quite lucky to have run down the Houston Astros in 2015 when it did for the AL West. It took renaissance years from Shin-Soo Choo and Prince Fielder, and a hot Adrian Beltre over the last few months to get it done.
While I praised them big time for the addition of Cole Hamels at the Trade Dealine in 2015, I am giving them guff now for not surrounding him with ample playoff caliber pitching this winter.
Derek Holland is slated up high on your staff even though he has towed the hill just 13 games over the last 3 campaigns.
Oh yeah.. Your innings eater, and #1 pitching pivot for the 2015 year (Yovani Gallardo) is still out on the open market and just screaming for you to be brought in his sights once again.
It takes a remarkable human being to even pitch in Texas, and this guy did a decent job for you in 2015. Go hit him with a decent monetary offer for a 1 YR deal near the Qualifying Offer please.
Gallardo may just accept that with a smaller open market class for Starting Pitchers in 2016’s winter.
The Rangers are looking at a staff comprised of Hamels, Darvish. Colby Lewis, Derek Holland and some form of Martin Perez (working his way back to form after his own TJ Surgery too) and Chi Chi Gonzalez to round out the rotation.
I am not even saying the Rangers have to do much more on the offensive side here. If everyone plays like they did in 2015 – this could be a formidable club. Add in a Joey Gallo and Jurickson Profar, and the team could even be as deep at it has been in years. But they need to be as aggressive as the Astros have been here.
Add that last piece to the puzzle. As they stand right now….I have them as an 83 – 85 win club. A Gallardo deal would move them right up by a couple of wins. That may be enough to earn a playoff spot in a parity driven American League – and also approach the Astros for the AL West Division crown.
