DH – 2 Weeks Of Daily Home Run Notes

DH – Stands for Daily HR Hitters in the Majors.

We are going to run the gauntlet on the previous days HRs for all MLB Players.

I loved it when MLB XM Radio used to do a running total every night on their Roundtrip with Mike Ferrin (Laser Show).  So I am bringing it every day on this page!

HR Notes May 20th/2013

Robinson Cano not only extended his HR streak to two games, but he also tied Chris Davis (also Homered Monday) for the American League lead again.

Travis Hafner hit another HR on Monday for his second straight game with a HR.

Will Venable hit a HR for a second straight day.

Jay Bruce hit a HR for the second straight day.

Yan Gomes has the only Multi HR game of the day – and it contributed to an Indians Walk off HR Monday.

Adam Dunn  joined the guys tied for 5th in AL HRs yesterday with his 11th big fly.

Miguel Tejada hit his 1st HR of the year yesterday.

Evan Gattis leads all of the NL Rookies with 8 big flies. Jedd Gyorko, Nolan Arenado and A.J. Pollock are next with 4.

Aaron Hicks, Conor Gillaspie and Oswaldo Arcia all lead the AL race for Rookies with only 3 HRs each.

HR Notes May 19th/2013

Is there a better hitter in the game right now than Miguel Cabrera?  With apologies to Joey Votto and Ryan Braun, I just don’t think so.  Cabrera is putting up historic numbers – and he is improving every year if that is humanly possible.

Miguel Cabrera is only 1127 Career RBI behind Hank Aaron now.   If he puts a bunch of 125 RBI+ years, he may have a chance to run down the ALL – Time RBI leader. He is also vying to be the 1st MLB player with back to back Triple Crown wins since Honus Wagner.

Cabrera moved all the way up to tied for 2nd in the AL with HRs on the day.

It was a light day of HRs across the board due to great pitching performances.

Yonder Alonso and Matt Joyce are the only 2 players to have a Multi day HR consecutive streak.

20 Players will try for HRs today in prolonging their streak.

There were 22 HRs hit in 14 Games for a total of 1.57 HRs per game or 0.79 HRs per club

HR Notes on May.19/2013

There were 3 players that hit a HR for the second straight day.  Incredibly, Raul Ibanez has his 2nd 2 Day consecutive streak this week – and has clubbed 5 HRs this week in 5 Games.  He will most likely win Player of the Week Award in the AL – unless Jason Kipnis, David Ortiz, Mitch Moreland or Adam Dunn go completely beserk today.

The other players t extend their streaks were Kelly Johnson and Joey Votto.

There was a lot of movement for the lead of the AL HR race.  Robinson Cano belted 2 HRs, Edwin Encarnacion, Chris Davis and Mark Reynolds all clubbed their 12 HRs yesterday to tie the Yankee.  So now we sit in a 4 way tie for 1st – while Nelson Cruz is in second all by himself.

David Ortiz was the only other player to hit 2 HRs yesterday besides Robinson Cano.

Just one more note.  OF Rick Ankiel has hit at least 1 Extra Base Hit in his last 4 games with the Mets (2 HRs and 2 Doubles) – and has hit for a 3 Slash of .300/.333/1.033  in 6 Games during his Mets days.  Overall for the year, the 33 Year Old has Slugged .537 – based on 7 HRs and 15 RBI – in just 82 AB.

There were 4 guys who had Multi – HR games yesterday.  Adam LaRoche not only hit 2 big flies yesterday, he also extended his HR streak to 3 consecutive days.

Paul Goldschmidt continued his torrid pace – by launching 2 baseball to fans.  He has taken over second place of the NL HR Race.

Aramis Ramirez is trying to make up for lost time  by clubbing 2 Roundtrippers yesterday. If he can come back and contribute with Ryan Braun, the club may have a punchers chance to stay relevant.

Scott Van Slyke is making his father proud.  He bashed 2 HRs in a losing cause versus Atlanta yesterday.

J.J. Hardy, Geovany Soto, Adam LaRoche, Alex Rios and Jason Kipnis have hit HRs in consecutive games – with LaRoche doing it for 3 contests in a row – while all others are on 2 game streaks..

Teammates Alex Rios and Adam Dunn both entered the top 5 for AL HRs yesterday.

Carlos Gonzalez has now made it into the top 5 NL HRs for the year.

Josh Hamilton hit his 4th HR last night – and now has hit HRs on back to back nights.  He has collected all 4 of his Round – Trippers versus the Houston Astros this year.  In his last 365 Days, the slugger has played in 152 Games, cracking 32 HRs and 101 RBI.

What we are seeing will continue to plummet in the next stat.  His 3 Slash Line since last May 10th is .247/.315/.789.  We are now talking about a full years worth of games.

While a 32 HR, 100 RBI guy is good – a .247 BA – and .315 OBP makes him more like his former teammate Jay Bruce.  For the record, he also has fanned 178 times in those games.  I will update these stats in a month.

Royals teammates Gordon hit a HR for a 3rd straight game – and Mike Moustakas homered for the 2nd straight game.

Nick Swisher has now hit a big fly in back to back games.

Chris Carter hit a HR for the 2nd straight game for the Astros last night – and has hit 24 HRs in his last 336 AB dating back to last year in June (1 per every 14 AB).

With 27 HRs and 65 RBI (in just 450 Career AB – but a 3 Slash of .213/.303/.734) – he reminds me of a young Cecil Fielder with the Blue Jays .243/.308/.781 – with 31 HRs and 84 RBI in his first 506 AB – before being caught up in a numbers game in Toronto with Fred McGriff.

Last Year the former A hit 16 HRs and drove in 39 RBI in just 218 AB during the Oakland A’s big second half.  CC was Walking more last year – and held a .350 OBP for the year.  The Astros must be patient with this slugger to learn how to hit  – despite his AL leading 51 SO.  He should be one of the players they keep when the rebuild is finished.

Robinson Cano is leading all Second Baseman + is tied in the AL with Chris Davis for HRs with 13. In a sign of what he might do this year, in his last 163 Games since last year, Cano has a 3 Slash Line of .310/.374/.952 - with 42 HRs and 110 RBI. This type of season would land Cano a deal similar to the one Prince Fielder received a few years ago (9 Years/$214 MIL)

The Padres have played great baseball since they plugged Chase Headley back in the lineup. Players like Yonder Alonso, Will Venable, Everth Cabrera and even Kyle Blanks have bashed the ball around. Since a lot of the NL West clubs have not run away with the Division, the San Diego club has entered the picture for the Division Race.

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst/Website Owner):

The Rangers are #1 again based on the Division lead they currently possess, plus the fact they play all of these teams a total of 76 Games this year.

The Braves (rose their division lead to 2.5 Games with a 4 – 2 week), and Padres (18 – 13 in their last 31 Games and have been clubbing the ball lateley) were the biggest movers up for the week standings by climbing 6 spots apiece.

The biggest drops were the San Francisco Giants (hate their Starting Pitching right now – except for Madison Bumgarner) and the Baltimore Orioles (late inning magic might be dying – and still need a DH + a Veteran Starter or 2).

The Los Angeles teams keep losing ball games – and the Blue Jays lost 2 straight versus the Yankees just when they looked to be on track.

Cleveland is still ranked outside the top ten because I don’t have faith in their strength of schedule in the next month starting May 21st:  2 vs DET, 4 @BOS, 2 vs CIN, 2 @CIN, 2 vs TB, 3 @NYY, 3 @DET, 3 @TEX, 3 vs WSH and finally 3 vs KC.  If they are above .500 after this stretch, I will be impressed.

The Delmon Young Effect Is Crippling The Phils Lineup: Does it Need To Be Eradicated?

Delmon Young has not exactly lit it up for the Phillies this campaign – hitting .208/.286/.619 and just 1 HR, plus 4 RBI in 48 AB. Despite this abysmal start, Delmon Young is still going to  hit 5th Today? Really?

By Chris Creighton (Phillies Correspondent via http://www.warrroomphilly.com – visit the website here

Charlie Manuel is, if not anything else, loyal to his players and his gut-feelings when it comes to filling out the Phillies lineup card every day. If it’s his dedication to Jimmy Rollins batting lead-off over the years or leaving Cliff Lee in for 120+ pitches when he might be cooked, he certainly honors a hunch for better or worse.

So it should come to no surprise there exists a strong belief in his mind that Delmon Young is the right-handed bat to protect Ryan Howard in the five-spot.

While maybe later this season that could eventually be true, the Delmon Young Effect has been plaguing the lineup over the past month after his return from an ankle injury.

Any batter entering into the MLB season a month late due to injury–and slightly out-of-shapedness–is going to play a little catch-up baseball at the plate and Young is certainly not an exception to the rule.

he nickname stuck with the cave dweller for the whole season.  I went as far to help the cause by taking up the cause at Safeco Field.  It was a funny part of the year.

The Social Media frenzy that the MLB Fancave came up with was a fantastic concept.  Through the interaction with Mike and Ryan, I actually met Jonathan Hacohen (Founder of the MLB Reports) – and we started talking baseball.

A year and a half later, I ended up agreeing to purchase the website.

The NL Pitcher of the Week (as named by our website only was Jorge De La Rosa – who flirted with a no – hitter in one game – en route to 2 Wins, 13 Scoreless IP,  a .114 BA against -  and WHIP of 0.69. If the Colorado pitcher keeps this up, he may be in the running for NL Comeback Player of the Year.  What was is even more impressive are his 2013 numbers  at Coors Field – the hardest park in the Major Leagues to throw in.  He has authored 12 scoreless Innings Pitched – while carrying a WHIP of 0.667.  As you will see in this article, the man has been a brilliant performer in the high altitude air of Denver for his Career.

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst/Website Owner):

In 2009, Jorge De La Rosa was a 16 – 9 Pitcher for a WildCard Rockies club.  He was emerging as the teams #2 pitcher behind Ubaldo Jimenez.  He put in a Career best 193 Strikeouts in 185 IP.

After a decent 2010 campaign, the man started the year 5 – 2 – with a 3.51 ERA and a 1.186 WHIP in 2011 .  The team also started the 1st month atop of the Division – with the man from Mexico starting the campaign 4 – 0.

On 24 May 2011, the man suffered a complete tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow, and underwent Tommy John Surgery.

2012 was a complete write off for De La Rosa as he recovered from his injury.

Cespedes left last nights game with an illness – after cracking his 7th HR.  With the longball Monday night, Cespedes now has hit 31 HRs and driven in 101 RBI in his 1st 155 Games and 586 At-Bats.  Billy Beane signed him as  a Free Agent last winter – prior to the 2012 year.  He finished 2nd in Rookie Of The Year Voting and 10th in AL MVP Voting.  His salary at 4 YRs/$36 MIL deal looks pretty good right now.  He made $6.5 MIL last year, will make $8.5 MIL this year – and will earn $10,5 MIL for both 2014 and 2015.

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst/Website Owner):

The Athletics will enter game #41 at the record of 20 Wins and 20 Losses.  Last nights win was a sigh of relief for the Oakland club and their fans.

After taking 2 out of 3 versus the New York Yankees in the Bronx last week, they were swept in Cleveland in a 4 game series (including that debauchery of a call by Angel Hernandez on the Adam Rosales Game Tying HR) – before losing two of three to the Seattle Mariners.

The A’s have seen their quick start of 12 -4  turn into a barely .500 season thus far at 20 – 20.

Rick Ankiel Has Another Shot To Stay In The MLB: The New York Mets Claimed Him

Tuesday May.14/2013

Rick Ankiel had a dubious beginning as a Met last night, misreading a baseball and having it bounce in and out of his borrowed glove (Jon Nieses's) hit by Ty Wigginton that led to 3 runs. Ankiel went 0 - 3 with a walk in St. Louis. Despite the poor game, I like the move and it should enable Ankiel to be a starting Outfielder for a stretch. If he can hit, he may be a good late season defensive acquisition/Pinch Hitter for a contending ball club

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst/Website Owner):

There are certain players in the MLB that you cheer for more than others.  For me, Rick Ankiel exemplifies this.

I always check for his stats in the boxscores early into my perusal of any baseball website.

His story is one of inspiration and dedication to the game of baseball.

I was disappointed when he was released by the Houston Astros – but completely understood why the change had to occur,

The Mets have the weakest Outfield in the Major Leagues and are actually one of the teams I suggested for Ankiel as a landing spot in my post 2012 year write-ups.

It is obvious that the Wilpon’s continue to look for cheap alternative options to patrol their grass.

The Rangers have opened up a 6 game lead over the Athetics - prior to their series with Oakland that kicks off tonight. They have also only played 15 Home Games - as opposed to 22 Road Games. Steady veteran hitting - and great Pitching all around has paved the way. They are the only team in the Division over .500

By Chuck Booth (Lead Baseball Analyst/Website Owner):

The Rangers are #1 again based on the Division lead they currently possess, plus the fact they play all of these teams a total of 76 Games this year.

St. Louis Cardinals have one hell of a pitching staff – and it is downright scary for the rest of the National League that they have played this well without the offense really clicking.

The Giants continue to streak.  I like their offensive makeup – because players like Buster Posey, Pablo Sandoval, Marco Scutaro and Hunter Pence all tend to be streaky.

The Boston Red Sox have begun to slow down recently.

The Tampa Bay Rays seem ready to make their charge.

Ryan Doumit has proved to be a great roaming player for the Minnesota Twins. He can play DH (16 Games in 2013) and Catch (10 Games in 2013) He can also play 1B and OF. Doumit has clubbed 3 HRs in the last week - and could play Jack Parkman if Major League 2 was ever re - done.

Jordany Valdespin hit yet another HR last night as a player that did not start the game. Incredibly, this guy has hit 9 HRs in his limited Career for this category (94 AB - versus 2 HRs in 173 AB as a Starter.)

Jordany Valdespin hit yet another HR last night as a player that did not start the game. Incredibly, this guy has hit 9 HRs in his limited Career for this category (94 AB – versus 2 HRs in 173 AB as a Starter.)  The Mets should definitely keep Valdespin in this role.  Unfortunately their OF for 2013 is hitting for a Batting Average in the .225 Range.
